Bookmarked, but I have nothing useful to add.
Interesting to see the comment above about dealers selling junk trade-in privately to get rid of them with no comeback.
Anecodatal : I paid good money a couple of years ago for a semi-modern car being sold privately. I went for a test drive, all seemed fine but seller wouldn't drop his price. I paid (not cheap) then found out The same car was advertised at a garage owned by sellers brother. Buying from the garage would have got me some gaurentee by would have cost £2k extra. Buyers choice? For info, I've had very few times since I bought it when it has worked 100%, a lemon or just a typical "they all do that, sir" modern?

A couple of days ago I got asked if I could see what was needed to get the irrigation system working again. Challenge accepted ! What’s needed ? Swap out failed controller with reconditioned unit, and rewire Replumb pipework (some had tree roots growing inside!) Reset mains trip switch Bypass (bodge) failed water-level sensor Translate foreign map of the plumbing into English, then go looking in long grass for overgrown sprinkler heads Cap a couple of leaking pipes Then beers

Really?? FFS the worlds gone mad. 'this true - a couple of years ago at insurance renewal time I admitted I'd fitted locking wheelnuts, the broker had to go away and check if that was classed as a chargeable modification Anyways, back on topic - keep up the good work & updates

I like the suggestions a lot but due to the drought here (& risk of escaping fire) we're not allowed to have fires outside without a council permit. Shame as I've also got a few big piles of tree cuttings to get rid of and fires would be ideal. To give an idea, the water in the well should be up near the mouth of the access tunnel at this time of year not way below it. Sweepstakes - I already know the answer (learned the hard way !) Latest developments - have just been asked when I need to return to UK and would I like to stay here for another couple of months Tough choice

Usual rules apply - if you know this place or why I’m here - please don’t make it public !Suggestions welcome - how do you stop animals / kids / other stuff falling into an open well? This dates back to Roman times and was originally 1 donkey power ! First attempts to create a collage (using Pic Stitch) And the next problem, what to do with a palm tree that has fallen and taken out a wall - and is now home to lots of very antisocial wasps ? (Wheelbarrow for scale )

Well, I’m still here (“here” in this case being within walking distance of the Mediterranean ! ), and keeping busy with a different project. Once again term & conditions were formalised before I got here* now I’m back doing the stuff that makes me happy. A popular attitude in the US army was apparently “If it moves salute it, if it doesn’t then paint it.” Visitors here are a rarity so I’ve had to resort to painting - lots of painting ! One of the minor tasks involves using a wheelbarrow - I have a choice of 2 so how difficult could it be ? #1 had a flat tyre but was sort-of ok until one of the handles snapped off. #2 was missing a wheel. The wheel eventually turned up but it’s broken (how do you break a solid rim??) and was missing tyre & tube. More searching found a bare custom rim, and a new tube was discovered at the back of one of the bedroom units (as you do). An old tyre from the back of one of the sheds works fine. Then *just* fit the tyre ( no tools available) and blow it up (after fixing the least-broken of the 3 foot pumps) Wombling & improvising - it’s the way forward * The term & conditions? Have a look around the place, anything you can do to tidy it up will be appreciated. Help yourself to the crates of beer in the garage but don’t go crazy. I love this type of job !

Just noticed this - bookmarked and waiting for photos. Do you have the v5 logbook ? Any parts missing? Good luck with sale, always a shame when something unusual ends up going for scrap if it can be avoided

For info, I've been trying to relocate for nearly 2 years, my "must have" list is very simple but I've yet to find an estate agent who can cope with it : * needs off road parking ( bounus points if it has large garage or land attached) * house must need work ( I refuse to pay top dollar for something nice that isn't done to my taste or standard). * number of bedrooms, location etc all negotiable ( but it's looking likely I'll end up somewhere near the coast Wales or South West) ps - if you know of anything that might suit, just PM me

Very nice! I looked at a place last year with a similar layout (garage behind the house, driveway long enough for all my cars + a couple of spares) Not jealous at all For the walkway between the 2 garages, I had something similar and put decking down as flooring (+ ends & roof), ideal as overspill storage for cycles, gardening stuff, and essentials like winter wheels & tyres

I sold my first house to a young couple, the chap looked around the 12x22x8 garage (aka barn) first and decided he didn't need to see the rest of the house to know he liked the place. I do similar when I buy - look around the outside & garage first !
I've since sold a few houses and am now very firm about telling the agent what wording I want in the advert. Have had too many "professionals" advertise for me using what is obviously their standard cut & paste text. Some gems I've seen online have even advertised terraced houses as detached - if they can't get the basics right why would you let them control the rest of the advert?

Impressive result - very smart and like you say it's a clear mental "keep out" sign without using anything that looks commercial. To help spread the load between the top (loaded) hinge and the bottom (unloaded), you could unbolt the bottom hinge from the post - fit a washer of suitable thickness over the hinge pin - refit hinge. It should be fine the way it is but anything you can do to reduce the loads is worth thinking about Keep up the good work !

Question - does anyone have any suggestions for creating a simple website so interested folk can see the kind of work I do?A few people recently have asked if I can do xxx and have been pointed at this thread with good results but I'd like to have something more stand-alone and sort-of-professional. One suggestion I liked was to "stitch" before & after photos together to make it easier to understand the progress without knowing any background : Other photos need no explanation (but it helps to know "UPVC solvent cleaner" from double-glazing suppliers is *great* for removing grease & stains from lots of places around the house <not spam>)

Water supply - if you have water (and it's working) I'd agree with dodgerover - if Welsh Water say it's not theirs then it must be from somewhere else - just accept it and move on. If somebody has turned the water off at the road stop-tap and forgotten to turn it back on you can buy / hire the tool to turn it back on so you can test the supply - search "water mains stopcock key". A friend up North has a cesspit behind their farmhouse (basically a deep pool with reedbeds away from the house), it seems to work fine with zero maintenance. Other remote places I visit (many in North & South Wales) have underground septic tanks that can run for many years before they need to be emptied. PM sent with a couple of suggestions

Hope the move went well. Good to see the BX is behaving, have fun doing all the little jobs around the new place Not sure why your other half thinks car parts don't belong in the house. How else are you supposed to get the Princess cylinder head clean if you don't warm it in the oven then put it in the dishwasher?? You might be able to board the loft then put in a decent set of loft ladders to get more storgage space that's out-of-sight ( and out of mind ) Redesigning the garage(s) - search for "Permitted development rights" and look at the section about outbuildings, random link www.homebuilding.co.uk/permitted-development-rights-guide/ PM sent
