Today’s life tip: gaffatape - never leave home without a roll. One of the cooker drawers has been cock-eyed since I got here and it’s been irritating my ocd genes. Tape a nut to finger then you can get it into the hidden recess. If anyone has spare time to kill, the local sales ads should fill a couple of hours : www.custojusto.pt/portugal/carros-usados/peugeot/404/q/peugeot+404m.olx.pt/ads/q-Peugeot-504/?view=galleryUnderstanding the adverts sometimes helps www.translate.com/Hope things are going well for folk, if anyone decides to snap up one of these bargains, commission to the usual address ( or a crate of ale at rrg20/21) would be appreciated ps. does anyone have any advice about buying a car near the med and getting it moved to / registered in uk?

Car - educational here as always, my first thought was J-something especially the front lights/grill, a Mazda badged as Ford never crossed my mind.
Dog excersise - take a tennis ball when you go stand at opposite ends of the street, throw it between you and the dog (some dogs!) chase it.

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-mots-for-cars-vans-and-motorcycles-due-from-30-march-2020
From 30 March 2020, MOT due dates for cars, motorcycles and light vans will be extended by 6 months. This is being done to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. You do not need to do anything to extend your vehicle’s MOT expiry date if it’s on or after 30 March 2020. However, you must keep your vehicle safe to drive. Your vehicle will be automatically given a 6-month MOT exemption. This will extend your current MOT expiry date by 6 months

Bump - in case anyone is looking for a cheap runabout with long mot.
My "few weeks" working away keeps getting extended (it now looks like I'll be away until at least mid April), and the Saxo is parked up at home doing nothing.
Good points as above ( and I'm not going to be around to remove the new £££ towbar so that works in for favour !)
Things you should know : I took the radio out, it works fine just needs slotting back in. The new v5 is in my name but assume it's "lost" (everything is in storage while I'm away, and I can't get access to retrieve stuff before I get home) Car is stored at Birmingham, easy to get to (£4 bus/£10 taxi) from the center.

Not spoken to the new owner recently so I'm not sure if it did get put back on the road or if he changed his mind. Ask me at Rrg20 - I should find out then if not before

When I read the updates a few days ago I resisted posting as I had nothing useful to add. After reading the last update I'm still lost for words - but you know plenty of folk from the UK are thinking of you & yours <virtual hugs>

Why you wear safety glasses even for the smallest of jobs I have a fairly relaxed attitude to my personal safety some of the time but am always very careful about my eyes. Not happy currently - am working away from home and brought a decent pair of tinted safety glasses to double up as safety gear and also beach/watersports shades. Peeled an orange from the garden last week and its sprayed a few drops onto the lens - I now have tinted lenses with a retro tye-dye pattern

For Rootes stuff (Hillman etc) I rate Speedy Spares, always worth looking at their clearance section if ordering and add bargains you find ( nos carb £25 etc)
For stuff you can make fit (great for keeping an older retro on the road) try Rally Design, but beware you need to add vat to their prices.

About 3 years ago I was looking around to see what suppliers were available for decent battery tools. From memory, positives for keilder were they are UK made (designed?) and that some rally teams used them, a negative (for me) was the choice of tools was limited - fine if they have what you want but dewalt / makita etc have more toys you can plug their batteries into (angle grinders, SDS drills, hedgetrimmers, ad infinitum.)

There could be a genuine reason ( I can't find the v5 for my daily since I moved house, and I'm working away from home so can't search for it or apply for a replacement) Years ago I often bought cars & bikes with no documentation, now I'm a lot more choosy

For info insurance company's decided what is a "classic" so a 10 year old Porsche etc might be but my 20 year old Saxo isn't ! You need to ask them about your particular car. Hope you get sorted

Ford front brake disks I bought a set for a Mk1 Cortina and when they turned up the box showed they fitted Fords from 60s to 90s ( and beyond?)

Hi tried to send a pm regarding house stuff, I think it's hit every spam filter going due to the use of the K word.... Yep, this is the only forum I know of where *that* word triggers the spam filter, hence most of my diy posts have been edit'd after I posted them to bypass said filter Glad to see progress on the house and cars, I'd like to say its hard work when you move then it gets easier but I think it's that's just me being optimistic !

Heavy ratchet straps or similar? Tie one end to the hub on the stuck shaft - tie other onto the biggest heaviest lump of metal you have ( I often used one end of an old prop shaft) then just swing the lump away from the car. Shaft should pop loose when the strap jerks tight.

As a teenager, an old-timer showed me how to gas weld to get my first cars through mots. Lots of years doing no welding then my sierra failed mot for rust. Repairs were going to be £100s so I spent the cash to buy a new low-end Clark mig set. Some frustrating time spent with trial & error. A mate then spent a couple of hours showing me the right way - this helped a *LOT* An auto-darkening helmet is my 2nd "must have" on the route to success
