Hi all, I've been offered a 1999 Micra for free and I want to share it with my partner to learn to drive in.
I'm 29 and have 12 years license, she's 28 and has just applied for her provisional. If I were the take out a classic policy in my name, with her as a named driver, would that technically be possible?
I understand that most classic policies require the driver to be over either 21 or 25, which she is. However I have also found the grey area around new drivers over this age. What do we think?
The car will be registered to me and I will be the legal owner.

Driver aside, I think I you may struggle to get classic insurance on a 99 Micra, I know I cant on a 94 Astra. But with my brothers Cortina it was 2 years before he could get a classic policy on it.

Theoretically it should be possible, being over 20 years old. Also the fact I own a daily and another actual classic should help with the argument.
How old was your brother when he passed?

I think most classic policies are for cars over 25yr old, but you might find one that will cover it. Though keep in mind that you normally don't get a no-claims bonus on a classic policy.
Have you tried a quote just for her on a normal policy?

Have you tried a quote just for her on a normal policy? I have and it comes out sub-£400, which isn't too bad. I just wanted to play around, as I currently pay £140 for my Trabant. As for no claims, I don't believe she will count for that until she passes anyway - correct me if I'm wrong though.

For info insurance company's decided what is a "classic" so a 10 year old Porsche etc might be but my 20 year old Saxo isn't ! You need to ask them about your particular car. Hope you get sorted
