My dads Berlingo Mk1 radio used to turn itself down if you raN it at high volume too long as self protection and it you then attempted to turn it back up again too soon after it did it it would display the message ‘TOO HOT’ on the LCD. Fiat radios when the loud audio compensation setting and FM auto frequency are turned on is amusing, displaying ‘LOUD AF’ in little letters. Also years back now came across a fantastic menu message on a late Vectra with colour screen infotainment which was the result of terrible translation which said ‘Traffic announcements do not comming up’ (typo included) when turning off TA. Certain Astra J models have a ‘secret’ button on the radio that isn’t screen printed/logo’d so looks like a blank which prompts the message ‘not available’ when pressed.

Gone to the first viewer 😭 Oh well, on to pastures new...fresh showcase thread on the way 🙂 Unsurprising given what a lovely example it looks and the effort you’ve put into maintaining it. 👍🏻

Just had a message from lincoxn asking me to mail some random account from my ad in the wanted section I have had the same from the same user. The user in question was banned, unless the dates are recent?

Technically I would think the 306 doesn’t ‘fit the bill’ to be exempted from the rules, certainly not by todays standards. (Without having one to look at Vs the test wording I can’t be sure 🤣) But I don’t disagree with having a go and seeing how it fairs without come test time I wasn’t sure either but the old phase1 headlights had the correct marking according to the testers manual to not require them Bloody good job as I’d of needed new wings to get the holes back The e marking isn’t what makes them compliant. It just means they are approved for being lights for the EU market. Having the E mark just proves they aren’t some weird lashup. If you read it it has to be a wraparound lens with An E approval stamp. The 306 lamps aren’t wraparound. But moot, as you got your MOT

Many years ago I had a 306 s16 , had the in wing side repeaters welded and filled etc ( along with the door locks) first MOT it was set to fail as the examiner jumped to the conclusion that they were required , but as stated above I had the correct e marking on the headlamps so after a brief conversation and a quick check of his very big MOT book the car came away with a clean ticket Technically I would think the 306 doesn’t ‘fit the bill’ to be exempted from the rules, certainly not by todays standards. (Without having one to look at Vs the test wording I can’t be sure 🤣) But I don’t disagree with having a go and seeing how it fairs without come test time

Maybe use a Mk2 golf smoked front indicator assembly mounted below the door in line with the front spoiler? Invisible, cheap if damaged, can be permanently installed and won’t spoil the look/make the spoiler look more integrated?

You can be a bit naughty on this, and have an additional wire set for side repeaters and plug them in for the mot and stick them to the doors with strong magnets. Once a year lights. 😉

You can live with it as long as you like provided that is the issue, it's not ideal but it won't really cause you any safety concerns unless the breaking completely seizes and even then it'll just make the spring jump even more

probably the top mount bearing (you won't feel any 'play') binding and allowing the spring to stress and then jump round. watch the coil spring while someone else turns the wheels from lock to lock to see if the spring 'hesitates' at all.

Free to collector in Bristol. Stebel Juinor 6V horn compressor, ideal for a scooter or beetle or something. Motorola AM 2 knob radio. In good presentable condition. Was new when I got it. It’s been in Pollitt’s Zodiac back in the day and then came back to me and has been moved from garage to garage. There is also a red double rotator halogen beacon on a roof bar to suit something without roof gutters or take it off, whatever. Make a little Japanese police car rep or something. I’ll take pics when o get to that. It’s a bit buried.

Is there a paint I can use to mock the black plastic trim effect? I'm buying a bumper for my Vectra, top has been sanded and colour codes but I like my black trim and want to paint it back to match the existing trim. Think Halfords do a trim spray but does that just paint it black or will it dry textured as well? Find a proper automotive paint supplier and they do bumper texturiser for bodywork bumper repairs on plastic sections, that’ll be what you need 👍🏻

Obviously, it's in bits again. Original electronics for the lights and absolutely poo sound removed And Cummins-programmed Beier USM-RC-2 unit going in. Love the cold start. Also finally made functional chain binders with tiny turn buckles.

if the engine is already in bits, Bristol Auto Care are very knowledgeable and a proper old school workshop. But he's usually not in a situation to take in vehicles and his engine turnaround is long as he is always busy.
