indeed . had some amazing skip finds this week, filing cabinets, chairs, desk, pens, cutlery, kettle, projector, drum kit, shelves, sheets of plywood, sheet of perspex, mirror, rolls of blue vinylcloth, storage boxes, cashboxes , cash (yes really, a pot of assorted coins, mostly foreign but some old UK ones, I even told the person whos skip it was and they just shrugged their shoulders) , wood varnish, washing up liquid, hand soap, plastic fish, pianola rolls, mic stands, champagne flutes, wooden toys, broom, infra red heater. No cuddly toy? Sliding doors and a conveyor belt? Ttfn Glenn

As far as cbr exhausts go, also have a pair of marving slip ons, a pair of race slip ons, lazer 4 into 1, and the 4 into 1 that came with the one we broke for spares, and if that wasn't enough, have bought myself a tig, now I can start making my own creations Ttfn Glenn

Would it not be a good idea to get it inspected by somebody within the VW owners club, somebody who may have had dealings with the DVLA before? Perhaps some sort of official confirmation regarding the originality of the VIN number on the chassis from an EXPERT on the marque would also give you greater leverage? the chassis number has been inspected by a very knowledgeable member of this forum and he has stated, the font, spacing and security marks are all correct as the rolled out of Wolfsburg in November 1958 Ttfn Glenn

Hi, The DVLA used to run a scheme of having expert signatories for each of the marques, usually from the relevant motor clubs. The Bugatti fraternity rather abused it and brought it into disrepute. Is it worth asking the DVLA, under FOI, for the appropriate member for VW's to assess and adjudicate the vehicles in question? Colin Have spoken to the appropriate buggy aficionado this evening, he has given me a great deal of useful advice, about my buggy and how to progress with dvla, everything is now much clearer and positive Ttfn Glenn

Yes you need to do a FOI on the information they hold on your vehicle. The fact it’s a 50s chassis registered in 72 tells you that’s when it was built and correctly reregistered though. As the owner You have reasonable grounds to request it so they shouldn’t be able to refuse. I’ve got round them saying ‘no’ to registrations in the past by doing this, then using the info they were trying to use against me against them instead. They should release all historic v5s and correspondence, but with all names and addresses blanked out. A trade hpi may also be useful but won’t tell you as much as they hold. That is some really useful information, now the dumb bit. How do I go about a freedom of information request? Ttfn Glenn Stretched my IT skills to their utmost and submitted a FOI, just wait for a response now

In the early 70s a beach buggy was built and then correctly registered as such, with its chassis number recorded Between then and now it has had its identity used on another vehicle I apply for registration for original buggy And the curse word hits the fan Ttfn Glenn

But has the floorpan been shortened? People make the mistake of 'correctly registered' as seeing what they see on the logbook, but DVLA have a more comprehensive file on their computers. It's quite likely that the changes were not oficially entered on their system, so it may say 'buggy' on the V5C but it will still be 'Volkswagen Beetle' on their records. A You can argue with them, but normally the more you do the more they dig in. If they have cancelled the logbook as their letter states and issued you a new VIN number then they will have considered it 'case closed' I'm afraid. Yes the floor pan has been shortened, presumably when it was built in the early 70s to fit the early 70s body. Then it was registered as Make beach buggy Model blank The only letter i have now does not mention a new vin number. The way I see it, my buggy has been a victim of identity theft. Trying to do things the right way just seems to make it worse Ttfn Glenn

It's the only outcome I thought it would be. It will 100% be IVA (for both cars). Kev Rooney has written a booklet about registration rules which is available for £10 going to charity. It should not be iva for mine as it was correctly registered as a buggy when it was built back in the 70s from a late 50s beetle. Still retains original running gear, suspension steering etc, the shell is an early 70s one also, so all ties together If I was to go down the iva route, I would start with more modern running gear Ttfn Glenn

Any mileage in getting an independent or owners club inspection? Not tried with DVLA, but has worked for me against insurance companies Theres already been an inspection by their subcontractors, just need to wait till I find out what they mean by Q plate. Ttfn Glenn

Fight it. If you make enough of a nuisance of yourself they concede eventually. They may act like their word is final in all matters but it isn’t. I have too, not only for myself but to prevent a precedent being set. Been trying to be polite, now is time to play dirty I bought what turned out to be, a correctly registered classic buggy, which had its ID used to ring another buggy. Why should I loose that identity Ttfn Glenn

Does your vehicle have enough components to retain the identity under the 8 point rule, if so then I don't see how they can void the registration unless they don't believe yours is the correct vehicle for the vin and the other one doesn't have enough parts to meet the rule. It would be interesting to know what the inspectors report on your car said but I assume that they won't tell you? Definitely beat the 8 point rule, it was registered as a beach buggy So chassis, suspension steering, gearbox body, all ok only change, it has a replacement engine. Just have to wait and see what happens, and also if they refund my v5 fee? Ttfn Glenn

Surely one of the vehicles has the correct ID I'd be argueing with them to do their job It sounds to me like they have, and their consensus is the other buggy owns the ID. They have decided to void the registration so nobody has it, Ttfn Glenn

Surely one of the vehicles has the correct ID I'd be argueing with them to do their job Will be fighting this, mine has genuine intact chassis numbers, so is entitled to the v5 But more importantly, I need to fight this, otherwise every barnfind, lost v5 etc could be slapped with a Q plate Ttfn Glenn

It means they've got themselves into a hole, and are desperately looking for a way to get out of it! 😀 Otherwise it's the official version of 'application? What application??' and it's gone in the circular file Edit- just reread that, think I got out of bed the wrong side this morning! 😳 Think you did, but no worries things will get less worse Ttfn Glenn With what is happening now, you might have been very accurate Ttfn Glenn

Recieved a letter from dvla. They have decided void the registration and identity, so it will have to be reregistered on a Q plate, what this will entail is yet to be explained to me Ttfn Glenn You'll have to go through an IVA, I would expect. Could be a built up vehicle report, but anything could happen since they don't seem to be following their own guidelines Ttfn Glenn
