Great thread, reminds me of religiously buying MBR and MBUK in the late 90's/early 2000s when I was in the sixth form at school.
Was the Brooklyn Machine works frame mentioned here the thing with the extra chain on the left hand side and a jack shaft in line with the suspension pivot? Vaguely remember something like that.
Love a nice clean retro MTB with rigid forks. The bike I use for taking my little boy out on his bike seat is a 2002 Orange EVO2 with a pair of salsa CroMoTo rigid forks, rides so nicely and don't miss the suspension forks at all.

Some of the stitching under the top of the steering wheel on my e39 has come apart. Although I like the idea of getting it retrimmed that's a bit expensive at the moment. It's a late sport steering wheel the same as an E46 M3.
Anyone had a go at DIYing this? Looks like waxed polyester thread is the stuff to use? any particular needles?
Any links to diagrams explain the stitch pattern? I think its just a zigzag stitch in the middle I need to replace, between two lines of running stitch along the edge of the leather.

I'm going to join in the with E39 love My 530i Individual, currently has 76k on the clock... Kent-Northumberland 4 up with a bike on the roof, no problem. The nappa leather still smells nice after 13 years It's not a sports car but quick enough, trouble is the straight 6 is so refined you end up joining motorways 20+mph faster than you're meant to and wonder why everyone else is going so slowly...

I've used Brentacre and Chris Knott and both been cheaper than quotes via comparison websites. Have to phone them though.
Brentacre insured me on my modified B3 Passat and were very knowledgable about all the mods etc.
Chris Knott insure my 2003 BMW 530i, this policy was effectively new with no no-claims but only cost me £280 fully comp as they took the no claims from my other policy into account. Although Brentacre wouldn't quote me as I'd had no RWD experience at the time.

If you're staying in Stratford and fancy a proper east end local check out the Eleanor Arms www.eleanorarms.co.uk/It's round the corner from my sisters flat, the owner Frankie is a top bloke and did her a most excellent party when she got engaged, real friendly place with loads of kooky art and decent beer.

Manual, 2nd occasionally is a bit crunchy when the gearbox oil is hot but it's fine otherwise. Will come with a spare low mileage 02a box with the right ratios and a ton of other spares too. It does need attention to the sills but otherwise very straight for its 27 years.

Just nipped into the local tesco & had a mooch like you do Nothing purchased but thought I I'd share two that caught my eye Can't really see this being appealing to the youngsters Anyone fancy a brick on wheels It's a vehicle from the computer game Minecraft, basically virtual Lego, kids can't get enough of it, even Lego themselves do minecraft branded sets, so you can build the real life models of a virtual representation of real life building blocks.

haha after spilling a load of engine oil over my shared drive last weekend (drain pan had a frost crack in it, didn't realise until I saw the puddle) I should probably do something about it before my neighbour moans.
Trouble is if I'm home the car is parked over it so I forget about it...
Block paving so hopefully I still have some spare blocks kicking around!

The kicker is do you have enough width to get a trolley jack (and handle) under the car at 90 degrees to the sills with the car in the garage?
I normally work outside but have done work in my dads garage which is slightly wider than normal and always found it a pain not being able to spread out sideways and always paranoid about knocking a body panel with a heavy tool by mistake as you squeeze down the side of the car.
Height may be an issue too with the long bonnet of the jag, especially once it's jacked up.
Make sure you have enough light too, a couple of portable floodlights and at least one "wander light" is useful, it's amazing how much difference it makes being able to see what you're doing and garages have notoriously rubbish lighting.

I'm guessing your mate Brian is the same Brian I've chatted to via the ClubGTi forum (can't imagine there's too many other Brian's casting random engine parts for fun) the guy is a legend!

Cheers Michael. This is mini Matt number 2! I'll definitely regret it but needs must, kids are only little once and just can't spare the time for old cars any more. If it sells it sells, if not I'll break it. Plus I've always been conscious of the lack of modern safety stuff when I've got my son in the car.

For anything over 25mm I would go for the bolt on type shown above. I used them for years with no issues. Downside is increased unsprung mass so the suspension has to work harder. You need to think of the spacer and wheel as a system, you're effectively increasing the positive offset of the wheels. Adding a spacer with the same wheels will increase the loads on wheels bearings and affect the steering geometry (increased positive scrub radius). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrub_radius
