Having built and mapped a megasquirt for myself and curse word around with loads of them, if you're keeping the engine stock I would definitely sell the megasquirt stuff and just get a stock ecu setup. Megasquirts are great, but they have their place - they are a hell of a lot better than the rubbish that came on the 2.1 DJ engines, but they don't run the "creature comforts" like cold start/warmup and closed loop idle properly without loads and loads of work - There's usually little or no benefit to running the megasquirt on a stock N/A engine.
Those subaru engines look really at home in the back of a van - they are nice and compact and there's not hundreds of water pipes bodged all over the place like on the WBX, they seem to do the job nicely. I considered one but couldn't justify going to the effort of custom bellhousing and engine mounts without putting a subaru turbo engine in, and then the gearbox would immediately explode anyway. For now the golf stuff is absolutely great, but I think my next step will be the upside down passat box and a matching 1.8t/ tdi that seems to be the next big thing!

Usual steps are: Hammer a socket over it, if that slips hammer a slightly smaller one. If that doesn't work weld a nut on the end.

If you're making the cable longer, you need to make it thicker otherwise you'll end up with too great of a voltage drop and the starter will be pretty lame.
My T25 van came with a 2.1 engine that's fairly low compression so probably not that demanding of a starter, but since the cable is probably about 4m long VW specced it up to be about as thick as a bloody hosepipe. Now this is probably a bit overkill, but you really do need to increase the cable diameter to be about 1.5x what it already is.
It'll probably work in best case conditions with the original thickness stuff but on a hot engine or with a slightly weak battery you'll struggle.

I've never used them, but know a few people who have tried them and apparently they aren't much good at all, especially on stainless pipe.

Sounds to me like a dodgy connection at one of the battery terminals or battery earth strap.

Mick Wilks is a mad man! He took the thing over to the states and visited Hot Rod Drag Week. 1400 mile drive around america visiting various drag strips in a 180 car convoy.
Pretty great video on his trip over there.

Like you say, the water channels will funnel the water into the middle of the tread and they'll be terrible with any standing water. In the dry there won't be anywhere near as much of a difference - it'll turn into a much more scientific situation where tread bars are being loaded differently and all sorts of stuff like that - in practice you'll probably not notice it.

Wow, that looks absolutely great on those wheels. It sits well and it all just "works". personally, I'd leave it as it is - don't go putting golf/jetta stuff on it or painting the bumpers etc, and tinting the windows would also go against the simple, basic look of the car.

I like your car. but a TVR has nothing but downsides: You can't fit pianos in it, You can't park them in motorbike spaces They are no good for transporting whole football teams across the country They are uncomfortable to sleep in They have poor warranty coverage. They don't run on waste vegetable oil
Obviously these are all valid points, but you don't care about any of them because you want a fast cool car. People who run banded steels want wide wheels.

fair amount of extra camber on the rear wheels That comes through lowering them more than about 60mm, you run out of adjustment - mine looks dead strange from behing, the back wheels are pointing in all sorts of directions.

You'll have no issues using wiring rated for higher amperage than stock stuff.

You'll need the air coming in for the blower fan or the vehicle will steam up like mad in winter - there's airflow through there even with the fan off which keeps the moisture level down.

Try welding a nut on the end. If anything will get it out, this will. The extreme heat will usually crack it free, and nothing will grip it better than weld
