As a curveball how about a rusty SLK 230 as a donor? Nice bulletproof engine and a supercharger to boot, close to 200 BHP and the option of upgrading the pulleys. Pick up one with a pair of rusty wings it'd probably be no more than £500. Right set up too.
I've bookmarked this - am interested no matter what engine goes in!

I think that looks a lot better than a stick on would because a) it's offset and more interesting, b) it has a bespoke bracket and c) it's a non-standard shape. Works fine for me!

That video made me grin a lot!
And if you think that your house issues are bonkers, spare a thought for my Dad. Whe I was little he had a just had an operation and was recovering. My Aunt invited the family down so Dad was able to relax.
When we got there they casually dropped the bombshell that they were moving. Whilst we were there. And the house we were moving to wasn't finished...

What a nice way to go shopping at Tesco's. Lovely Mk3 Zodiac parked far away from the modern SUVs and 4x4s. ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/mrbounce/59301ff0e48e.jpg)

Many thanks to all who have left messages, PMs and texted kind thoughts. It has been very much appreciated. Dad is doing ok and has been insistent that we sort all the shelves and shelves of stuff that Mum collected over the years. It's keeping him busy whilst we wait for the funeral. One thing I was never 100% happy with was having fixed 1.5 degree negative camber bottom arms on the front as there is no room for adjustment. Some came up on the Mini Forum at a decent price and once various lockdown issues were sorted, payment was made and they arrived on my doorstep. Thanks Pete! All the adjusting threads were clean and serviceable, just the outward appearance was slightly tarnished (as expected). Not a problem. Have bench grinder with wire wheel, will use it. I split the arms into their component parts and gave everything a good going over on the wheel, removing the tiny bits of surface rust and general grubbiness. Once done, I masked up the threads and gave the newly keyed surface a coat of the same blue that the rest of the suspension components have. Once dry, I will reassemble them and put them on to the car and remove the old ones. As purchased. ![](https://i.imgur.com/nsI69w9.jpg) Cleaned up, masked and... ![](https://i.imgur.com/epGe4wo.jpg) ...painted. ![](https://i.imgur.com/x4a4MwK.jpg)

Those wheels look bleeping brilliant. Looking forward to seeing them on the truck! I presume that the Cragars will now be cleaned up and sold on? At least they'll give you some cash back against the new wheels.

You mentioned a Merc C63 so I assume you're not fussed about it being Retro. Have you considered an SLK 350? 272 BHP out of the box and sub 6-seconds to 60. Generally well-specced - best to go for one with all the toys. And of course the roof comes off. Loads of them out there - should get a nice one for £6k. Note that the V6 cars though are £500+ tax between March 06 and March 08.

Sad news indeed. Loved the fact that when I was reading Street Machine in the late 80s and early 90s that at least half of the features were photographed by Mike, and to a suitably high standard. A huge talent. RIP.

Silly little thing but my Aunt and cousins were visiting when I was about 16. She'd brought my Uncle's diesel Fiesta Mk2. We'd gone to Walton on Naze and parked the car. When we came back it was completely dead, no ignition lights, nothing. We had no breakdown cover, mainly because my Uncle was a naval engineer and could pretty much fix anything. Except he wasn't there.
Figuring it to be a loose or dirty connection I asked my Aunt if I could have a go. I twisted the key and at the same time gave the top of the dashboard an almighty thump, more from frustration than knowledge as there were no tools in the car anyway. The car fired up straight away with no issues! We immediately drove it back to Mum and Dad's and my Aunt phoned my Uncle who promptly drove from Hampshire to Essex to fix it properly.
My "fix" was enough to get us back home and probably saved my Aunt a fair few quid in garage fees. Think my Uncle fixed it and sold it a few weeks later.

I spotted this P6 in Tesco's last week. I especially like the "Zero F's Given" about where it was parked. ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/mrbounce/50892b0793c5.jpg)

Just a very brief update to let you all know that I haven't forgotten about this project or updating the thread. We lost my Mum last week so I have been doing a lot for Dad these last few weeks as he's understandable devastated after 52 years of marriage. The project is understandably not my priority right now. I will be back on it soon, but please don't expect any updates for the time being.
Dave.

I have a question re the Non-Retro Daily (Merc SLK). I hit a rabbit which ran out in front of the car a while back, which took out a small section of my airdam - see picture below: ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/mrbounce/84408f9f788b.jpg) I have plans to repair it but not at this moment in time due to space issues and the fact it's a bit chilly! Is the fact that there's sharp-ish edges a problem for MOT? The question I am asking is should I leave it as is or sling a small piece of Duct Tape on it until it's time to repair it?

Motorhead's Ace of Spades always makes me drive faster. Whereas Chicane's Eglise makes me calm back down again.
I often find myself singing (badly) to Lissie and a whole host of 80s tracks. I have an eclectic taste in music.

Tool walls if are useful if you don't want toolboxes cluttering up the place. Pallet tops are generally free from warehouses, a lick of paint, some screws and a Sharpie and you're good to go. Mine cost a total of just over a fiver. Can't live without them now. ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/mrbounce/47f0feea4f6e.jpg)

Excellent work there Rian. A (very) belated Happy Burpday from me - and keep on enjoying that truck. It's almost as good to watch you do your thing with it as it would be to own it myself. Carry on the good work
