James I hadn't seen your post - I definitely know of the car and that Murray bloke probably has a better workshop than me Well I am "almost" back to normal - just waiting for all the dissolvable stitches to disappear. However, I had a delivery today. Mr Parcel Force turned up with a large box. I will let the pictures do the talking. Big box. I wonder what's in it? Pipes. And an exhaust box. Twin box exhausts are for wussies Penny was able to give it the once-over. She is much improved, although still unsteady and stiff-legged. I will hopefully be able to give it a preliminary fit over the long weekend.

Many many moons ago, I was due to go to university. I went out drinking with a good friend and when I came back I had acquired a "Danger of Death - Keep Out" sign. I thought I still had this, but it was not in the place where I thought it was and I fear that I have left it in the garage at my previous abode. I wanted another one - however I am significantly more sensible than I was in the early 90s, and am aware that CCTV covers just about EVERYWHERE. Plus, I am no longer a student, so high-jinks these days involve a takeaway spicy curry or a whole weekend in the garage. So instead I headed to eBay and got one with slightly different wording that I actually prefer. I put it on the garage fridge, naturally. Tempted to put it in the back window when the Midas eventually goes to a car show...

Looking great! Is that Gulf racing orange? you’ve done a great job on getting that front end shaped up.. especially considering all,of the cracks you chase out! love it! Cheers! It's a standard RAL colour called Bright Red Orange. And as for the all those cracks... fun fun fun (or something like that!) 😁

Never took a pic of the truck at the gas station. But....... This was on 246 miles driven randomly, with no concern for consumption. After all, it sounds brilliant when you nail it. Anyone want to name and shame and do the calculations? About 19.5 mpg young sir.

Because I loved Cannonball Run as a child (and still do) plus Miss Buckman (in her younger days, anyway) was a serious crush, it was only fitting that I did this:

Well that's a massive ball-ache. I love Roadkill and Roadkill Garage. Guess I will just get a refund then.
I bet the bosses who ok'd this are not enthusiasts in any way.

I do things like this. Every... blooming... time... I am in the garage. I took the spacer off my grinder to fit a wire wheel. Now I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE where I have put it. This was 4 weeks ago. I still have no idea where it is. I REALLY don't want to have to get another grinder for cutting duties. I also put my door mirrors in a special box. This box was marked "Carb" so I had no hope of finding it. Utterly illogical.

I have a little bit of spare time on my hands following a minor operation, and as I cannot currently work on the car, I thought I would show you my collection of random Manroom acquisitions from over the years which are nailed or screwed to the walls, rafters etc. When I was doing my A levels and before I could drive (an eternity or 30 years ago...), a mate of mine gave me 3 number plates from his old cars and another friend randomly gave me a US plate from Virginia. These went up in my room. Since then I have acquired numerous other UK number plates from my own cars and some acquired from various friends. 2 of them came with some rather nice surrounds. Now, I didn't have a need for these so I offered them to grizz of this parish. He kindly sent me some US plates in exchange, which sparked off an idea - I have decided to collect one plate from each US state. I am currently on 13/50 and am slowly working my way through the rest at a rate of about a couple a month. They aren't expensive to buy, and one day I may find a job lot somewhere which may help. No rush! I have also collected various bits of Mini-related regalia (mostly donated by my good friend Richard) as well as various signs and a couple of photos. I will constantly add to these over time! UK Number Plates and a couple of Swiss ones in the corner). Those at a jaunty angle belong to Zippy the Midas. A few more... The first of many USA Plates up in the rafters - my favourite is the Alabama National Guard one. And a few more... A couple of Dealer Advertising Plates courtesy of grizz on the Power Tools cabinet along with a Spark Plug advert Mr Noisy, because the Angle Grinder lives in here... My old Mini Run plaque from 1995 - my first ever car-related run Numerous Mini-based piccies from Richard A funky clock from Shaun A Mini Fan which was amongst my random parts which I will never use. And the garage is watched over by the lovely Hayley Atwell from Captain America fame who I actually met (she's actually EXTREMELY lovely!)... ...as well as the gorgeous Tara Buckman from The Cannonball Run - I haven't met her, but I bet she doesn't look like that now!! And finally, a reproduction Railway "Way Out" sign. I just liked the look of it. It's a repro because Railway enthusiasts make the real ones VERY expensive! I am certain that I have a few other bits stashed away as well as a couple of additional ideas so I am likely to add to this thread regularly. Plus the US plates will go up in number...

Along with the Dremel I mentioned above ^^^ I also still have my Halfords Professional 1/2" socket set which I bought in about 1999. Nothing's ever broken and it all still works perfectly. The only thing that broke was the box but that's because I kept on opening it... I also like ALL my hammers. I originally had 4 or 5, but I inherited a fair few, and now have 18... I do have a favourite, which I refer to as "Clyde" the 2 1/2 lb lump hammer. 18 hammers!!! I think you might have a problem😜 You can never have too many hammers

Not mine, but my mate blew a head gasket on his Mini whilst we were at the International Mini Meet in Ireland in the late 90s. Spares were not a problem due to all the major Mini Spares suppliers being there, but tools were perhaps less easy.
Still, we changed the gasket and luckily he had a torque wrench. I think the only thing we didn't have was the correct size socket/spanner for the choke cable clamp nut. No problem - that's what pliers are for!
The car made it all the way back to Chelmsford without issue - and we were not hanging about!

My Dremel. Absolutely invaluable for dealing with the damaged fibreglass, rusty bolts and general gruesomeness of an early 1980s kit car.
I could not have got where I am without it...

Epic. Downside: neither engine would fit unner the Midas' bonnet. I also smell straight cut drop gears Well, you say that..... tucked away in my lock up is a plug for a Mk3 Midas bonnet that was done for a car with a similar set up. Sadly my Mk1 does not leave a lot of room for even a normal 1275. I can't even use an MG Metro style oil cap...

Aaah yes the delightful second gear synchros that go. At least it isn't as bad as my old 1275GT which regularly jumped out of 3rd gear... Good luck! I am happily in for the ride

There's a common misconception that any salt is bad for you. Use it sparingly but appropriately and there'll generally be no issues. It's very important to decent cooking. As the late Gary Rhodes used to say "Don't forget your seasonings they're SO important!". He's right - they can make or break a dish. There are of course the two extremes - my Mother In Law never puts salt in ANYTHING which irritates me no end - and my Dad, who thinks everything needs additional salt. I've seen him add salt to bacon before. How he's made it to 82 is beyond me...
