So, coming out of Classic Impreza ownership just coz I get very bored very quickly and love messing with cars, owning cars and chasing new cars I'm looking for a new toy.
The Scooby was silly fast tbf so not sure anything in the similar price range will compete?
If there's a hidden gem out there I'm all ears
I've never done Evo's but they are insane prices now.......wanted the Evo 1 (I think it was a 1 or 2) advertised on here a few years back for something like £2750 but couldn't justify it at the time....curse word
I don't want stuff like mk3 Golf with an engine swap, I'd like something that is fast up to 'lose you licence' speeds not something that hits 120 and still feels smooth if that makes sense? NO 2 seaters either
The Scooby ticked the raw, fast and responsive feeling so want to try and capture that again just in something I've not owned (had a scooby years back too and loved it)
You could ask why sell then, answer is I have issues haha, I love owning cars, but I love the thrill of selling them and chasing a new one, gives me a buzz
Suggest away RR'ers please
And yes I'd love a C63 but they're waaaaaay over budget sadly

Audi S3 8P Stage 2. A friend has one, it's running 360bhp, AWD, launch control. He spent £5k on the work about 5 years ago. The whole car is probably £5 or £6k now.

You mentioned a Merc C63 so I assume you're not fussed about it being Retro. Have you considered an SLK 350? 272 BHP out of the box and sub 6-seconds to 60. Generally well-specced - best to go for one with all the toys. And of course the roof comes off. Loads of them out there - should get a nice one for £6k. Note that the V6 cars though are £500+ tax between March 06 and March 08.

Or when lockdown is eased enough that car viewings are feasible.

8P is the second gen so 2004 - 2013. Not exactly 2021 looks but less 90s hatchback than the original 8L

Are we talking daily or fun car? I'd be trying to find a 205 with a Mi-16 swap, have seen a couple in your budget in the last year. Might not be stupid fast in a straight line but would be a great overall package and 205's don't feel that relaxed at 120 don't know if there's something wrong with me or I'm getting sensible, but my daily is only fun in about 5 second bursts, after that you are into banned territory. Which kind of makes it less fun in my mind as driving at 2/10's all the time gets boring.

The issue is alot of the stuff which was very quick relatively speaking has now become quite expensive.
Years ago, I bought my E46 M3 for not much more than your budget. Bargains are still out there but they are very few and far between.
If I wanted something for that budget, I'd possibly be looking at lightness or speed. So, here come cars that probably aren't either!
-Porsche Boxster 986 S ; Again, getting one of these for £6k would be tricky now; they have been slowly rising -Mercedes W210 E55 AMG ; You'd have that glorious engine note -Nissan 350Zs ; are they still around this money? -Focus ST225 ; A bit of a pudding up front, but quite a quick car with some key mods and stripping isnide -Renault Clio 182 ; Trophies are now long gone from this price range unfortunately. An FF or Cup (even in 172 flavour) should still be possible however. Possibly one of the slower cars here but quicker on track thanks to a superb chassis. Bini MCS R53 may be worth considering. Alot of folks find these fun. -BMW E61 535d Touring. I know, but bear with me. These are effortless in their pace, and very undiesel like. They have such a grace in getting down the road. A remap on one of these will trouble alot of things on the road. They are not necessarily the best things around corners thanks to their kerbweight, but decent tyres help massively. I almost bought my dad's off him (but the timing was completely wrong) and I'm aware Darragh Doyle from Everything M3s adores his. Most guys I know have. £6k should get a very nice example. A friend of mine whose owned some quick cars has said he felt they were silly quick with just a remap. For me, the pace is enough for a daily. They may lack the special feeling however. The majesty in how that pace comes up is something else however.
Like you, there are cars I still want, but the budget, especially now is saying otherwise. Those cars include an S1 Elise, an Elan 2+2, and a BMW E61 M5 Touring. An R8 V10 would be a better bet and probably more reliable and enjoyable than the latter, but there is soemthing about subtlety.

Which kind of makes it less fun in my mind as driving at 2/10's all the time gets boring. For this reason, I've kept my M3. It's more than fast enough. It can quite easily get into licence breaking speeds without thinking about it when pushing on. Yes, I know every car in my ownership can, but I think I've found my limit. Being lent a mate's C6 RS6 gave me perspective. It's incredibly fast with 630BHP. It's addictive, lustful and superb in how you can see gaps that aren't there. I walked away thinking I needed that power! But it is a bit much! Jesus, I must be getting old! Enjoying cars for driving at higher speeds but not silly ones. Now, where's that supercharger conversion for the M3?

RS6 - absolutely love them but soooooo nickable round where we live sadly
M3 - would love one of these too, but I guess mental prices now

955 Cayenne. They won't get any cheaper, last forever with proper maintenance, and are ridiculously capable given their heft. A mate just bought one for 2k, and has spent a bit on a good service, newer 958 (I think) wheels, extended leather, and a more modern double DIN head unit with Bluetooth and all that nonsense. He's still well under the 3k and if it breaks terminally he can break it and recoup most of his outlay. 6k will get you much more for your money. Or 5k with a bit held back for rainy days.

I have 3 letters for you my friend... X J R On budget, has retro chops, dangerously fast, isn't at all small, likely to break and cost you a fortune - but if I had 5k of someone else's money in my pocket I'd be all over this like a mullet on a redneck

I'd be buying a Jaguar S type R, crying about how rusty or broken it is in between leering round like timothy dalton in Hot Fuzz at who my next victim on the road would be and laughing like Mr Toad. Went to the nurburgring a good 10 years ago in one. ooo yes.
EDIT - I'm sure you could find a turbo honda civic for this price if you look hard enough.

I had a modified imprezza about 6 years ago. I've never been in another car that was as exciting.
I'd go for a modified golf gti with the ko4 turbo.

not a fan of the slk's really and is it 2 seat? if so its a big no no as I still have to act like a Dad some days with it. Sounds like you've got others cars for Dad type duties. But throwing my hat into the ring might I suggest a XK8. Pretty good to drive, plenty of power, and four seats... Ish. Although your kids won't thank you if they have to sit in the back.

My X350 XJR was really quick. With the cats having lost their newness and the back boxes removed it sounded evil, too. It was supposed to be around 420bhp with a few intake mods and they're not as heavy as you'd expect, being of aluminium construction. Even with coilovers it was all in at under £2500. Really nice thing to daily. *edit for pictorial evidence of its magnificence*

BMW E91 (Touring) 335i - a little tune or a race chip and you are knocking on 400hp

BMW E91 (Touring) 335i - a little tune or a race chip and you are knocking on 400hp Same, I like a nice E91 3er, either that or an E60 3.0 (the unloved 5er) and pocket some change. Though, looking online, the way used car prices are at the moment for £6k I might not bother down here in the South East ... ... prices were already nuts, recently they've gone full fat insane.
