Any MX5 will be far nicer to drive than the best Spitfire or Midget. No contest really, MX5 all the way! I absolutely agree.. but I'd go for the spitfire or midge every time given the option. Some people just like older cars. MX5s are awesome, but (without wanting to go into a 'what is retro?' sort of debate), they are sort of modern in terms of construction, aesthetic, technology employed etc. It's not a criticism, I just know what I'd lean toward and I have a rough idea of the OP's tastes. I owned an MX5 and didn't get on with it. I swapped it after 3 weeks living with it. I'm well aware that I'm in a minority though

No reason it couldn't be made road legal without BIVA assuming the beetle chassis hasn't been cut and there are enough original components to retain 8 points. It would just need the rebody declared and an ID inspection as a radically altered vehicle. It'd retain the beetle ID. Awesome

Thomas (The Doctor) is over this weekend, but would be travelling by car, and I believe he has a female friend aboard too, so I doubt he'd be able to help with big stuff.. It sounds to me like you need a Passport, a Transit and a few extra days to make it a holiday/roadtrip

I hate that feeling when you've bought a car and instantly know that you're never gonna get on with it. I've (we've) all done it before! ! Yep. I know that.. A Citroen Dyane. That didn't stop me from saying (out loud, in a busy office) "For F*** sake, Alan!" at my screen ;D

I haven't got a specific recommendation but Google shopping seems to be pretty successful. I didn't look at the manufacturers but it has to be worth a trawl

Paul, I've always liked the idea of an alarm that plays an absurd song for absolute disruption of the peace to make sure everyone comes to their windows to find out what is going on...
You would be an actual hero if you could get some sort of unpleasant rap metal type thing as a car alarm.. Crazy Legs by Hed (PE) would be a number one choice for me.
Glad to hear you had the bits in stock to fix it, but that really isn't the point.. And the attitude of the kids' father is appalling. It should never be necessary, but I'd be putting a for sale sign up on the house if I had to live with that sort of attitude

That's terrible Without wishing to state the obvious- If it can't be parked securely, park it somewhere well lit and in plain sight Alarms don't stop people stealing cars but they are a deterrent that would probably stop the kids going at your car Are they smashing their way in or picking the locks? If they're anything like the ones that were on my Herald, or Dyane, then you could unlock it with a stick, a 20 pence piece, a screwdriver... A fresh new set would be harder (though still not exactly taxing..) to get in through. Report it to the police every single time.

at what time does the gate open on Saturday? Always arrived on Friday and never look at my watch on saturday morning to see at what time people normally come in! If I'm getting there sat morning I'll normally wake people up to open the gate from 9.30 onwards. It's not always appreciated though ;D

That flat plate bit on the top, that's where mine goes to.
Is it possible that your injection pump isn't boost referenced? As in, off of a non turbo diesel?

It's a Proboards thing, rather than a Retro Rides thing, so there isn't really much David can do with it as far as I know.

The chances of me spotting it from Somerset are minimal but details duly noted..
It really is sickening to think that someone went out with stealing a car like this in mind. They'd need to know what it is, understand the ford/classic scene and appreciate that its a car that is cared for and truly loved, and then still not care about any of it. I really hope he gets it back, and in the condition in which it left him.

If it's really annoying you, I'll take it off of your hands to get it out of the way If you pull the king lead off the dizzy, do you get a spark from that? Since it was working the other day, and not at all today, and you have soggy plugs, could it be that you've just flooded it [/optimistic]
