Paul Goff (Goffy) has been my go-to for this kind of thing for years. I think, as you have said you’re not going to be doing much, if any, dark driving, I’d probably stick with the uprated halogen options in 35/35W as one of those significantly improved the light on an old BSA of mine. They’re only £12 each. Here He does LED versions, but they are £33 each… Second linkI know that he posts worldwide too. 👍

I appear to have discovered the portal to where the 10mm sockets go… In a box of other stuff that I have found myself having to dispose of, I found a cache of new 1/2” drive sockets. They aren’t the best quality, but they’re the kind of “useable” ones that I would happily have in my breakdown kit, and are single hex, so quite good for rounded fixings. Unbranded other than size and “Taiwan”. there are 21 of the 10mm ones, 9 of the 12mm, 10 of 17mm and 10 of 19mm. I also have about thirty 5” long 1/2” drive extensions. There’s also two Draper Expert 14mm spark plug sockets. In 3/8” drive. Chrome a little marked on some from storage. One pound each, plus whatever it costs to get them to you. ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/2090898bb040.jpg) ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/b648c2d1231b.jpg) ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/90f25f4b30dc.jpg) ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/907c21e8f88e.jpg) ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/0a87e3282ce0.jpg) ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/5370e0b67abb.jpg) Finally, I have nine 3/4” AF (19mm equivalent) Gedore chrome vanadium combination spanners. These are £2 each, again plus whatever the postage is. ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/4b9893b8d5b5.jpg) ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/glenanderson/ddd9744292f9.jpg) First come, first served. Happy to sell the lot in one go if you want to make an offer.

Are you putting a 90/110 style "long stick" box back in instead of the Disco one?

Congratulations! 👍
My Land-Rover has always been susceptible to clutch judder. Years of chasing my tail with it has resulted in me always suspecting the propshaft U/Js as being the most likely candidates.

Have you put antifreeze in it yet?
I always do a first run up and check with just water, as antifreeze seems to encourage leaks on initial start up.

I got a good tip recently for earth connections. It’s a bit “bodgy”, but if you can get in with a drill to drill the hole, then just go all the way in and use the jaws of the chuck to neatly take the paint off in a circle around the hole.

How much would you have to lift the radiator cowling to correct both ends? Could it be as simple as that?

Great progress. 👍
Next time you need to fit something similar, look into “rivnuts”. 😀👍

I would try running a temporary neutral return to the battery to eliminate earthing path issues as a first step.
You can get clever LED bulbs for trafficators that flash and make them much more visible/noticeable to today's motorists, which might be worth investigating.

How in the hell did the blade come out? His habitual lunchtime consumption of the “water of life” had lowered his competency levels to the point where he felt that it was perfectly acceptable to use a cutter from an entirely different machine, bodged into the tool holder, on the basis that “it’d always been ok before”… I too have a few bits of kit that command the utmost respect, but you’ve definitely got me beaten on the woodworking equipment. Most chippie kit gives me the shivers. I never start to use any of mine without still being able to hear my old neighbour saying to me “always, always look to see where your fingers are before you start cutting… saves you looking to see where they are when you’re done…”

Many years ago I saw the result of a spindle moulder letting go of its cutter at full chat. It went straight through the wall of the workshop and embedded itself into the side of the chippie’s P100 pickup; which was kind of poetic justice and much better than it would have been if it had hit my bike which was parked next to it.

Brake fluid proof or resistant paint. Does such a thing exist? I am hoping to refurbish a cast iron master cylinder that has an internal reservoir, and although cast iron is pretty corrosion resistant I would like to give it a coat of something protective if I can.
I know that there’s a potential to use DoT 5 fluid, but I would prefer not to if at all possible, or at least not to be restricted to using it. Is the kind of ready mixed 2K you can get in aerosols resistant to DoT 3 or 4 spills?
I know Eastwood used to do a “Brake Grey” that was suitable, but it appears to be discontinued.
Any pointers gratefully received. 😃👍

Thanks jimi I think that’s the arm I have just gambled on 👍 To be honest, it looks pretty much exactly the same as the DOGA version, and I’m hoping it will work without any faff. Certainly, at £30 delivered it’s worth a punt over the €105 plus carriage and customs charges for one from Waaijenberg. We will have to see. 😃👍

I have managed to identify the original wiper arm: it's a DOGA 121.0226.GA.04 Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a supplier in the Northern Hemisphere, or anyone in Aus or Nz that has stock, which might explain why they seem hard to track down. Durite do a pantograph arm that looks very similar (0-892-000) that looks near identical and I have managed to find one on ebay for £30, so I have taken a gamble on it either fitting, or being able to modify it to fit. If I can get the motor to work and make the arm fit then great. If not, then I'll look to swapping the motor for a Durite one, and once we're sorted I will get a blade to suit. It has to be a pantograph style setup as the tall, narrow screen means you can't use a conventional single arm as it just wouldn't wipe enough of it.

You can also get gears off the shelf to give greater (or less) sweep. When I was playing with the wipers on my P4 I upgraded to a 14W two-speed motor instead of the earlier single speed type that parked the blades off the screen in a kind of “dying swan” motion, and that needed a gear with a greater sweep than the original. You can also get spindle/wheelboxes with different size gears in, so you can have one blade sweep a greater arc than the other.

I reckon, if you pull that apart, you’ll find worn brushes and an absolutely filthy commutator as well as the knackered bearings.
Big improvement though. Nice one. 👍

The tube will be much stronger and less flexible than the threaded rod too. Good call. 👍
