I got a load of 100mm kingspan insulated roof panels seconds for my garage, it was well worth it, it's never damp in there, and warms up a treat in winter and no too hot in summer. I think I found the guy on eBay somewhere in North Yorkshire towards Scarborough. Dan

My plan is to remove the veranda, use those boards to replace or repair the rotten boards and because it's 20 something mm tongue and groove put it back up inside out, so the almost perfect inside is now outside. Sunday, after my Mum went home (she had been visiting for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner), the wife and I set forth cleaning the timber with a wire brush, then painting on Cuprinol 5 star wood treatment. Today we cleared the area, then got back to cleaning and protecting the timber, the base turned out to be rather more rotten than I had hopped so £180 worth of B&Q fence posts and I built a much stronger base. The Wife chose sage green, so I slapped on a base coat and had a trial Build The next few evenings will be spent painting on many miles of sage green. Dan

Mrs logicaluk wants a shed for the exercise bike, but when I looked down the back of the sofa and in all the car ash trays, there wasn't £3k. Regular eBay searches found nothing suitable until, this came up 50 miles away. Current bidding was at £60 with 4 days to go, it's worth a couple of hundred to me so I put £250 in to my sniper and waited, I won it for £230. Plus £100 to get it home as it was too long for my trailer and boom I have a large 3d puzzle to sort out, a few board are rotten but nothing I can't figure a way around. More to follow. Dan

oh I forgot about this thread By the time you've acquired something and cut it about to make it fit, it's probably easier to make one from scratch. I did But I am thinking of a making another but for the lower front mounts. this could be useful. PM sent Dan

Great score! Can't wait to see them in place. I was hoping to roll the bond out and try them on for size, on Monday but I just bought a log lap shed off eBay for the Mrs so that will take priority.

Whilst on my holiday I found these for £100 tiny amount of curbing on one and some corrosion under the power coating on another 185/55/15 on the front plenty of tread and appear to be in fairly good condition 205/55/15 on the rear just road legal, one with a puncture but both have big cracks in the tread grooves

plenty of room for turbos. Dan Funny you should say that. Whilst perusing the Interwebs for manifold options (of which there are manifold for this engine), I happened to observe a pair of headers that come forward and dump into a turbocharger flange on either side. Hm, thought I. That could be fun. T'Internet says that 400-500 hp is about the limit of the stock rods. Beyond that the block tends to break at the center main journal casting. There certainly is space in front of the engine though. You see how far forward the water pump boss is? There's a 4" spacer that bolts to that in order to bring the fan close enough to the radiator that it actually does more than just stir the air around in front of the engine... However, that shall not be the route I take. This will be a modest machine- looking at the way it sits, the rings are destined for failure. I'll run it until it goes pop and then see what I want to do. A small turbo ether side dumping into a 4 inch intercooler, sounds like it was made for modifying. Dan

More major borin' sheeiiat. But, important. The engine and transmission are now bolted in securely. Crikey you could hold a party in that engine bay! plenty of room for turbos. Dan

Thanks Dan, you’ve made me see something most people have probably known all along. I thought if you wanted more power you just bunged on a supercharger. I missed the bit that size is important. (My wife was right all along) I’ve only just realised that the s/charger passes ALL the air that the engine requires, not just boost on top of what the engine would normally use. (I did mention that I was out of my comfort zone with this) This is painfully obvious now but it comes as a bit of a revelation. Correct me if I’m wrong but I suppose the maths is this: The engine is 1800cc so will need 900cc per revolution and the supercharger is 500cc per rev. Therefore it needs to be driven at almost twice engine speed just to supply atmospheric pressure ie no boost. So given that the s/c pulley is 3” maybe a 7” pulley on the crank would be a reasonable starting point? Please feel free to point out any other basics of supercharging! Hopefully I will eventually get up to speed… Gratuitous photo of 450, to make me feel better. I believe the 1800 engine was used with a higher compression ratio in the early Jags maybe that could be away to pepit up or a smallish turbo to bring the boost in early.

Not much interest.... I don't think so. I'm definitely interested, so much so I looked in to the tiny supercharger, it looks like you will be right at the top end of the chargers useable capacity, and I would have thought it will be producing some pretty hot air.
Have you got the 1800 or 2000 engine?
More roadster pics please Dan

I've had an interested in stationery engines for a while as a couple of friends have them, but I can't see myself owning one. Couldn't you run a couple of alternators off them charging a bank of batteries with an inverter? No phase regulation issues then. Dan

Today I have been measuring and making poor choices.
A conversation with a chap on the book of farce, led me down a path I didn't expect, so I was telling this guy about the flow bench testing I had done with DS's help, and he swears blind his engine needed more air and the air box was the restriction, I was a little sceptical, until I realized I had taken my modified twin inlet air box to test not a standard one, bum hats. So how come his engine needs so much air, I don't hear you ask, well he's found that a late 70s civic 1500 has a 74mm piston has the correct gudgeon pin size, and there's a few sets in the US on eBay
Ooh I thought, that might be worthwhile 1428cc that's almost 100ccs more and a healthy hike in compression ratio, but then I thought head gasket, how big is the fire ring, and today I measured it to be 74mm, so today I purchased a set of 4, 74mm pistons with rings and pins for £120. Oops Dan
