One thing to keep in mind about fitting an om606 to the rolls gearbox...
If you tune it to say 350hp it's going to be making around 450ftlbs at the flywheel, it also makes alot of that torque at low revs. That gearbox isnt going to like that for long.

I would expect the light to go out as soon as you get past 10mph and the abs sensors all sync up.

That might not be an easy swap as the audi spins the pump the other way around.. On the audi drive for the pump comes from the rear of the camshaft so it rotates the other way around compared to most other pumps. It does but the inline pumps can be configured to run either direction with the right bits, but as I say that's only if your building the pump to make power. You'll also need a pulley that fit's as most are chain drive. If your just wanting to bin the electrics there are older VAG 5 cyl diesel's that can donate a pump.

Ah ok, what model?, I'm going to remove the pump at the week end. Is the nut right hand thread? also I quess I need to make a spanner with two dowels to hold the pulley? Any of the 5cyl diesels in the 190, w124, w202, and a few sprinters. The 310 and 312 sprinters actually had a rotary VE pump for a while too.

why not just replace the bottom end bearings? I'll second that, and the balance shaft bearings stealthstylz pointed to in the other thread.

Another option if you want to make power, would be a 5cyl inline pump from a Merc.

still havent been able to fix this , ive gone for a microsquirt and see how that goes , so if anyone has any helpfull tips I'm sure i will need them with all the spares i have i should be able to sell some and make it affordable If you are going the micro squirt route fit a proper trigger wheel on the crank pulley, trying to re-use a suspect dizzy to give a crank signal is asking for trouble.

First thing to look at is the fuel rail pressure, till you know what that's doing your grasping at straws.

The car is testing me, big time. I found a pinhole in the tank. It pi**ed 3/4 of the full fuel tank. I had that repaired. Next thing the tank is back on, filled with petrol and it just died a mile down the road. So far I changed a fuel pump (2nd fuel pump is waiting to be fitted), fuel filter, FP relay, OC relay, idle relay and it will fire up (just) and then die straightaway again. There is a number of other small things that need sorting out but these are not that bad in comparison. I will see how it goes but I think I will be putting it up for sale once it is all sorted out. Assuming it's a fuel problem, what condition is the tank strainer in?

If you can read live data you should be able to see fuel rail pressure, watch what that reads next time you try to cold start it. I'm thinking you have fuel running back to the tank, or dodgy injectors.

When it had the gasket done before did you fit the metal dowels and check the liner heights? If not that's your problem.

The original distributor is empty, other than a rotor arm. The whole ignition is run from an ecu that my brother does not want to fit. When it comes to electrics a 13A plug is pushing his capabilities. With it being a rally car you want to have readily available spares. I’ve tried to convince him to use Nodiz or similar but have not succeeded yet Unfortunately you've only got two options, as even if you get it to fire up on an old m102 dizzy the characteristics will be way wrong for the 16v. The original ignition system doesn't use the main ecu, it is all done via the ignition module and it's self contained circuits. The wiring for this is actually fairly simple, and spares are easy to get. This setup has been used many times when the engine is running bike carbs. The better option as Jhon pointed out is to use an aftermarket ignition setup, which can be fine tuned to suit your engine.

Thanks everyone. I have been messaging the ebay seller mentioned and it looks like it will get the engine running. The module he says goes with it does have a built in rev limiter of 6200rpm which is a bit of a bummer but maybe there is a similar one without the limiter That's no good for what you want to do. Any reason you cant use the original setup from the 16v?
