brave man!! repairing one with so many available!! labour of love!! thanks for sharing Yes, it's a mix of a few factors. First of all most of them will have some rust. If I repair it I'll known what's been done. Plus I'll learn a lot. I think these old mercs deserve the time. They are magnificent cars. Greg

Bookmarked. I just bought Chas' S124. No body issues so far, but time will tell. ChasR took good care of the car, and I want to make sure i keep it that way. You are right about the wonderment in these, swapping into my wifes modern Mercedes after the S124 is a reminder about how far Mercedes threw the ball, not dropped it!

Looks about right for a s124, what's the rear subframe mounts like? One side is fine (got there in time as the stone protection / under seal was pierced and it was only a matter of time before it would go) and the other side was done in the past so I am good on both sides. I have to say that the stone protection / under seal caused just as many problems as it saved the car from. There were many areas where it got pierced and rust spread under/above it. And then when it got bad/big enough to make a hole water traveled in the body work and caused havoc unseen. I will show some pics in the next posts. Greg

I am looking for plastic clip replacements for sill covers. Mainly for the bits of cladding that go on the rear arches. Would anyone here be able to help me with finding some?

Greg You can get pattern versions on ebay, I've used alot of those on my rebuild without issue. Or take one into the dealer to match up.

Now that you said this was where you got them from I tried again and "voilà". Thanks

I looked up the "build" thread. She seems to be well looked after and definitely quite solid. I like her a lot, I do prefer the earlier models though, ideally the earliest ones without the cladding. I always fancied an early 3.0/2.5d auto in saloon form.

I've a confession to make. I've had the old, pre cladding ones. I actually prefer the earlier looks, the bull nose bonnet especially. What I love about this particular car, is the M104 and 5 speed.
Not a fan of the saloons though, the Wagon is so much more versatile with very few drawbacks over the saloon. In a perfect World, I'd probably have this wagon, and a 500E.

I do love how versatile the wagon is but I just prefer looks of saloon models. Early 2.5 or 3.0d auto would hit the spot. Some of them with oxblood interiors look really appealing. 500E or the E60 AMG would also hit the spot, I must admit. You cannot beat a good V8.

You cannot beat a good V8. OM606 I6s are good and I do love them. They surely beat all the V6s in the modern day junk as far as character goes. Still grant and sound of a V8 just makes me smile. It really does. I am not a big fan of Yank stuff I prefer the European V8s. They seem to be lighter, more revvy and more lively. But then again. I5s also are cool. You can almost feel/touch the torque in those. The only engines I truly dislike are I4s for some reason. Especially diesels, they all sound like old transits. No finesse, they rev ok and work ok in J bikes but that's about it. Even 3 pots are better in my opinion. Greg

I5 engines do make a gorgeous sound, I'm just finishing up a volvo t5 conversion for a customer and the howl from the open pipe is pure sex.

I haven't had much time lately. The seat has been recovered and two patches welded up. Some photos will follow shortly.
