good project..
try to source a rear beam from a mk2 GT model, they're fitted with a stabiliser.. also use the front struts and trailing arms from a later model as they are a bit stiffer.. handling will improve a lot when you combine these with lowering..

I own a first gen Swift, and lowering the rear is not really possible, there isn't enough room above the axle to give room for travel in the suspension.
you could fit shocks off a swift, since they are similar and maybe a bit stiffer.. but there's not much available

the A- registered cars have been imported, and the 3-consonant plated ovlov has been imported recently (after august 2008)
importing classics is big business in holland, since every car older than 25yrs is tax exempt. But theyve now cancelled the scheme with all 1986 models.. so 1987 doesn't get tax exempt anymore..
lot's of the newer 240's end up in a scam, where older rotten ones donate their VIN numbers to newer ones so they're being made tax exempt..
not really a good thing going on..

flex/saw through the roof and a-pillars and leave it in its frame untill you need it fitted, then let a pro remove the screen..
also in a metal frame it's easier to store.

isn't it easier to find a matching gearbox?
or park it up a hill and do a rolling start every time? ;-)

audi80 and 100's were galvanised... so rust is not an issue..
also parts are cheap, because most of the 4 bangers are similar to passat and golf.

A good alloy wheel intented to be light can be lighter than steel, but most of the times steel is much lighter.. alloy is for show!
I have a set of alloy high magnesium content alleycats, they weigh 4,5 kgs a piece (5,5x13) so 10-11kgs doesn't sound very strange..

If it's the same for all of europe an a framed car is not considered a trailer, so you can tow a car weighing more than 750kgs. The towed car has to be insured taxed etc.
A dolly is a trailer so it's covered in the insurance of the towing vehicle. Also you can't tow more than allowed on your license.

2.2i you say? tell me more! He told me it has a 2.2 i engine from an Opel Calibra fitted into the front suspension of a Kadett E GSi (Or Vauxhall Astra (mk2?) as they're called in the UK) Btw this model is called Kadett D, so the E is a later model. now I look into it it should be a 2.0 8v specs i could find are these: 1998 cm3 86,0 x 86,0 mm 9,2:1 85 kW (116 pk) @5200 rpm 170 Nm max. torque 2600 rpm multipoint injection nothing too special but it goes very well since it's a basic spec one weiging about 800kgs The black kadett has a 16 valver from a calibra.

that BMW is awesome!
allthough it must be about 20 or more years old it still looks as if it's travelled back in time... and at least 20 years from the future!
