Ive finally flipped,
after humming and hawing for the last 2 weeks about what engine to put in my 3 door sierra ive decided on toyota 4ag from the corolla or mk1 mr2
This engine is from my all time fav car but i don't want one just yet (ruin the dream car etc!) so ill just settle for the engine.
Got a hold of conversion bellhousing to type 9, so thats taken car of but i'm not sure of the clutch.
Also bougt an inlet manifold for carbs so thats the fueling taken care of but ive been told that the ecu runs the spark even tho its got a dizzie. is that right?
the last major stumbling block in my head just now is the sump. i understand that they are front bowl sumps in mr2 and corolla. can i just turn the sump around or use one from a different application?

as far as I know there are no rear-bowl 4A-GE sumps - you'll have to modify yours or get one made up.

I have a 4 AG in my escort Mk1 with the sump still at the front. Don't know if it's the same as the Sierra.

a mk1 and mk2 should be rear bowl sump! its a similar set up between escorts and sierra but i know you have less space with the escort set up. i know this from people putting zetecs in as they have to modify the standard sierra cvh rear bowl sump to make it fit in an escort.
very interesting!

I just saw one of these engines in a really nice Mk2 escort rally car at the Chatsworth rally show this weekend. It was running throttle bodies etc and it said on the blurb about the car it has 208bhp!! thats pretty good from a 1600 and a mate of mine has one in his kit car that is 179bhp, he skimmed the head and uprated the cams and is running bike throttle bodies on an aaltiss manifold with emerald ecu. These seem like a really good engine. Good luck with it.

How much torque do they produce? Seems like quite a small revvy engine for heavy Sierra.

Sierra are not that heavy really, MR2's are heavier than they look. But still in agreement, It could work well if you are going with a diet like approach.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'd agree that Sierras aren't all that heavy really.... I don't know the figures, but my mk1 3-door weighs curse word all - I can push it backwards and forwards no problem. And I'm a proper lightweight. Can't push my Mondeo at all without help! I'll go for Zetec power if the cash is ever available so I'm curious to see a revvy Sierra rather than a torquey one!

a standard type 9 wont last long behind a turbo engine, i'd go for the easy option and fit a 24v or buy a cossie which already has a 2 litre turbo engine and all the running gear to cope with it.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

got a 24v sierra allready and although i love the power and torque i do miss a revvy engine.
i was also worried about the torque but i also can easily push the 3 door about, plus it has the benefit of being a base model so has hardly anything in it.

You don't fancy a pinto in the Sierra? Or Cossie power? 2WD engine £1500, T5 box £250, Cossie diff £175 = your whole drivetrain for less than £2k and 250 easy horsepower. Getting 200 horses from a 4AG is going to be expensive I reckon.
