Your first ride was special, come on admit it! No matter how awful the reality. If you're like me then you will always remember your first car with affection so this is the place to share. No need to be embarresed! This was mine back in '89. 1275 A series out of an MG 1300 (when did you last see one of those??) which is similar spec to a Cooper S, low geared gearbox from a Mini 1000, Spax adjustable dampers, brown velour and 1 Mongoose bucket seat...and those slot mags where awesome. I've never seen another set. Most people say they are wolfrace but I've always disagreed as they have a very wide rim. Any ideas? It was unreliable as hell, very noisy but actually pretty fast, managed 110mph behind a mates Xr3i and used to keep another mates newish AX GT honest away from traffic lights. ahhh...those were the days... Spot the altered reg no.

Ah... 1998, freshly passed test, all the kids at college were driving Novas, Corsas and Fiestas. What did I want? Skoda Rapid. ;D There's a photo kicking around somewhere which I really need to find and scan in. Best thing was, whilst all my mates were wheezing around in 900cc motors because of insurance constraints, I had RWD, 1.3 litres and almost 60 BHP! I'd have another Rapid like a shot.

1983 for me. Almost all my mates had Minis, so they fell about laughing when I turned up in a 55,000m from new Olive Green '67 Triumph 2000 Manual which I'd bought out of the local paper with a year's MOT for (get this) £100.
I'd love to say that I lavished it with loving care and it set me on the road to Classic ownership, but the truth is I ragged the living daylights out of it, getting through two 2-litre and one 2.5 litre engines, and two gearboxes, in the eight months or so that I owned it. At one point it was returning EIGHT miles to every gallon of Four-Star, a statistic I wore as a badge of honour.
Happy days!!!! ;D

Thats weird, I was having a conversation about 130 Rapids with a guy at work 2 days ago. He didn't understand what the hell I was going on about. You can't go far wrong with a solid Czech car which handles. Love to see your pics!

First car I bought was a Mk1 Escort 1300XL , an absolute parcel of curse word - scrapped it about 6 months after I bought it , I was 17 - what did I know ? No pics sadly. First proper car was a Chevette saloon BJR213V in a lovely shade of metallic blue. Well it was blue until I discovered Street Machine / grey primer / York dragway etc etc - pics from '89 ..( I was 18 ) It was a pile of sh1t- but it was my pile of sh1t.

I had a 1972 Wolseley 1300 MK2 back in 1985. It was my Grandad's old car which he gave to me as an 18th birthday present. It was similar to this one only a darker blue, and rustier. It got written off about 8 months later when a Triumph Toledo ran up the rear at some lights.

Epic number plate My first car was a 1996 Escort Si. Was gorgeous, all I did was slap some alloys on it and it turned heads wherever I went. Was a bargain too.. £800 and completely immaculate in tourmallard green (that'll teach you to put a reserve on your auctions won't it?) Was quite quick really and handled like a dream. Right up until the point I hit a pothole (within a month of driving), buckled the alloy which apparently left me with a flat tyre. Being 18 and never driven with a flat tyre before, I failed to read the warning signs and went into a right hand bend. Depressingly the only pics I have in digital format are post-crash. Won crash of the month in redline, mind - and insurance paid out £1800.. so not all bad. I do honestly believe I'd still own that car to this day if I hadn't put it in a dyke, lol.

Passed me test last November and I was straight into my 1980 Land Rover Series 3 LWB 2 an' a bit diesel.
In January I got the Mini MOTd and started running about in that.
And yes it is a pile of donkey curse word but I wouldn't swap or sell either of them. Even if I'm gonna be bussing it tomorrow because the Mini is having a rear subframe change (crabs like nothing you've ever seen:D) and the Landy's clutch has packed up.Again.
They put a smile on my face and give my mates as much pisstaking fodder as they want,so everybody's happy!! Aforementioned mates have souless moderns bought them by parents and bankloans. I bought every old heap I own with the sweat off my brow. And some money.

Passed in 1993 and my first motor was a 1980 1.0 MiniMetro. It epically failed the first MOT I took it for at work - they wouldn't let my dad drive it home! Then while we were wondering what to with it my 'friends' at work decided for me, doing a heroic amount of welding, which I then spend ages working to pay off. Cheers guys I grew a deep seated hatred for the POS after that, begrudged every minute I spent maintaining it and tried my best on a daily basis to kill it. But it refused to die. The engine rattled so badly you could here it coming from the other side of the village, and the shell was so bent from previous bumps it was a fight to hold it in a straight line. But it just kept going. Bought another one as an engine donor but in the end put a new floor in that as at least that one wasn't constantly trying to turn right Had loads of them after that and I'd have another Mk1 like a shot

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

Passed my test in 1976 on my 18th birthday (yes, I'm a Saga-lout) so I was given my Mum's 1960 105E Anglia (which I'd learnt to drive in) as my birthday present. ;D No photos survive unfortunately. Threw away the wheel trims and hub caps, fitted chrome plastic wheel nut covers and some chrome dress rings to the wheels which were painted red; Painted the grille matt black (with blackboard paint!) and fitted some bullet style racing mirrors in place of the original wing mirrors. Had a 6-foot whip aerial mounted off the rear bumper bracket and (oh, the shame ) a pair of white fuzzy-dice hanging from the rear-view mirror. About a year later I let my Dad borrow the car while his Maxi was in for service and the silly sod wrote it off. In compensation I got given Mum's replacement ride, a '64 123E Anglia Super (1200 throbbing cc - woohoo!). It got the same treatment as the first Anglia, minus the fuzzy-dice.

I had a few beffore I passed in April 1990... First car on the Road was a Sunburst Red Mk.1 Escort Mexico... AKK756K, I lasted a week before I stuck it through a fence and up two trees!! A passing bloke in a Brand new Sierra stopped, grabbed a bit of the fence, bent the front wing away from the left front wheel, said to me Does it start? It did, then he said does it steer? Yep I said, then he goes right, F*ck off quick before anyone else turns up or you will have to pay for the fence!!! The car got sold to another freind and broke up, but it strangely survives according to the DVLA, now its silver.... It got replaced by a Mk3 Capri 2.0S, KVX177V... I loved that car.
