ell I appear to have sorted my camera woes, and can now appear to post pictures, After my attempt ro re kindle my wiring attempt (Yes Twice) ECU and failing because of inferior plugage from EBAY, Chinese Knockoffs I'm guessing, I went and bought a Used Deutsch 19 pin M & F plug/socket, couriered via the super unreliable Mr Hermes system of 3 days turning into 6days, the kit turned up, now I have used these pre used type of plug many times with success, de pin, and fit new pins, works well as a cheap system of using good quality plugs that don't fail, even have tiny holes drilled in them so, If needed, I can wire lock all the bits so they don't come apart, The only downside of this plug, which I have never come across before from this seller, is the wires a sealed with a rubber compound, I'm not sure if I should dig its out or should I solder tail onto the existing wire, I'm not a lover of soldering wires as the solder can cause hard spike fractures in the wires

Not sure what's going on with me, Normally, as soon as it gets cold, I go and hibernate, at the moment I'm out there 8 hours a day, revisiting lots of things I have already done, but not quite happy with, hence the remodelling of the the load floor, another one thats been bugging me is my ECU, my preference is to mount it in the cab, and using MIl spec 20 pin plug and socket bulkhead mounted, I originally bought a MIL spec plug, found the plug I had acquired from EBAY made the loom to fit, went back to fit the plug, and the pins were falling apart as soon as the crimp pliers were used, got to be a knock off, Souriau is generally spot on kit, new plug and socket ordered, So, I'm now looking for something else to play with, as I'm in a wiring mood. I thought I would re check the new battery wiring, and turn the engine over, the engine is a bit of a mystery to be, I bought it as rebuilt and run , but found a shed load of end float in the crank, fitted new thrust washers, and its seemed OK, crank and rod bearings were good too, but never run it, I spent ages cleaning out the spark plug holes before actually removing the plugs, , the holes were full of crud, once done,I pulled the plugs, WD 40 down the bores, needed to make up a capillary pipe for the Oil Gauge, bit fiddly, as I had to un braze the nipple off the old pipe, and fit to the new pipe., its a pain to fit the block as its behind the exhaust down pipe, all done, I crank over the engine sans plugs, hoping for oil pressure, after 30 secs the cranking speed drops slightly and a dribble comes out the end of the pipe, screw the gauge on and I have got 75lbs of pressure at cranking speed, YIPPIEE I'm not complaining at that, its going to be hight as I have 20/50 in the engine, it should be 10/40,

Back again, had an afternoon out on the Van, been doing loads of silly bits. Many months ago I located the battery in the false floor below the load floor, its quite low, and I managed to find a low Gel Battery that fitted in the space, great, took the battery out a few months ago and put it on the bench, 30 seconds later, it was laying broken on the floor, big hairy gonads, or words to that effect, ok, I will order one, sorry, thats obsolete, days of trying drew a blank, so typical of my luck at the moment I was Gifted a pair of Batteries by the lovely Mr Bravo, which happily fitted in a old box I was going to use for another job, now located on the floor hiding the battery. The floors in these vans are built with bolt in floors, a bit crappy really, but thats what it came with, and its only half length, it dosent go past the middle of the wheel arches, the rest is ply. the steel floor was pretty dented and distorted, I was fortunate to find another straight abiet Rusty, and disposed of the old one when I moved, made a new ply one for the front end, and Hated it, not sure what to do with this, so it has been left in the van for ages, Imagine my surprise when I found the old steel floor, ... in my new Garage. ? Plan B, chopped the trailing edge of the old floor and dropped it over the other floor where the ply would have been, Think this plan is a go'er, I do much prefer the the all metal floor.

An old friend of mine used to look after the ex championship winning Matt Neal BTCC car, for what was meant to be a simple car, it was surprisingly complex, with billet rear beam, and a front suspension that sort of defied belief all built around camber shims, there was a HUGE box of them, all front suspension variables other than ride height was controlled by these shimslower the car there was a shim to adjust camber and at the same time set the toe in or out depending how you want it set, it was a masterpiece of engineering, there was also a log of what was run at all tracks with weather, temp, times, air density, and loads more I have forgotten.

I had a weekend off the damn thing, Went back out there today fully intending to pull the engine and box, split the box and see whats occurring the gearbox is pretty unusual in as much you split the gearbox lengthways, apart from the tail housing images.app.goo.gl/j5e3Qo8Ry5yoR5vQ6so, I line up all the tools I think I will need, get the lay down mats where I need them, pull the prop, around the tail shaft there is a pressed steel cup, I'm guessing to stop any oil spray, it was a touch loose, so I removed it, this revealed the tail shaft actually sticks out 25mm beyond the lip seal, Mmmmmm------- I have an Idea, out come the 18" pipe piers, check check and double check its in neutral, back under the van, Got where I'm going yet. attach the pump pliers carefully to the tailshaft, pull down on the pliers and I get a partial heavy turn, far too heavy, I'm turning the engine over too, check the lever is in neutral again, and it is, get back under the car, pipe pliers attached again and using a real techie term, wanked back and fro, still turning the engine over, then BANG, it releases, my knuckles punch the bottom of the car, now the shaft turns dead easy, the gears seem to select, all I can think is a synchro cone had jammed, Now I have refitted the prop, and still need to clearance the tunnel slightly, but everything now turns over without going "clunk" Yippieeeeeeee

I have now found a similar kit in the US, which seems to be a lot cheaper, @ $190, then a identical kit popped up in the UK, @ £550, even used the same pictures...... I have no Idea why never found these last night..... my internet is poo. I guess the interwebs are so full that often Google only nets what it can in 4.3 milliseconds. And a refresh changes what you see. Check if the sellers are, related, if they are using the same pictures. Also, I would message the U.K. seller and say you have access to both USA and Australian items at better prices, what are they prepared to offer. Many sellers are there because they know many of us don’t do more due diligence than hitting the “Pay for basket” button. PS: how big is the kit? As in how much real estate does it take up? . How much real Estate does it take up, if it wasn't for Gaskets, probably a 150mm x150mm cube box (6"), today will be a waste of time, Ill start calling/messaging tomorrow

If it's a 3 rail type of shift mechanism it's sometimes possible two engage gears at once with the stick out. Nice thought, but its a single rail, I think I am resigned to pulling the box if I find nothing in the remote, I'm hoping the little plastic insert has fallen out the ball joint or the ball joint has come loose, that would be quite a result, on my last Toyota box (supra), I made a quick shift, and did away with the plastic ball joint and replaced it with a rose joint, I have spent half the night trawling the internet for a gearbox rebuild kit, took a while, but I'm not going to go and get it, its in Australia, so I have asked for Postage rates to the UK,

Is one (or both) of the U/Js binding with the extra angle? I have got the prop off and still can only turn the output shaft 10 deg or so, I'm gong to take the lever out tomorrow and see if I can frig it into neutral, It could be selector fork fault, pin broken or something??

I think this van is possessed, or at least, dosent like me. I have spent 3 days on my back under the van faffing about sorting the exhaust, at least that fits where it needs to go, Phew, Few of you will realise how diminutive these A35s are, in my world everything clears by about 2mm, or less So, lets get the prop in while I have a sore back, again the prop is a pain, 1, Because it has a dog spline, so it will only fit in one position, 2, it clears the tunnel by the aforementioned 2mm, 3, I'm a grumpy old git when things start testing me, 4, it squeezes around the exhaust as there is a small factory made exhaust tunnel that is sort of the prop tunnel too, that gives me ground clearance BUT where the original exhaust was 30mm, my one is 55mm, so it encroaches into the prop tunnel, If you remember I had to raise the engine by about 25mm, this , in turn has moved the gearbox, thats OK, just made a slight difference in the flange angles, that should not be an issue, After lots of swearing I get the nose into the gearbox, bolt the prop up, Ooooh that was easy for a change, got it right first time, now, for some reason, I cant turn the prop any more than 10 degs, clamber out from under the van, and put the gearbox on neutral, try turning the prop, it still won't, lots of swearing again and carefully looking around the exhaust, it now looks like the prop front UJ is clipping the tunnel, put a jack under the gearbox, take the crossmember off, elongate the crossmember holes, bolt it all up together , manage to get the prop back and centralise the gearbox..... HOORAY, no GRRRRRR, the prop still won't turn and its not, and nor do I think it was itouching the tunnel in the first place ... WTF..... where do I go now, and why has the box locked up I will try and get the gear lever out and see if the selector pin has broken, but I cant understand why it should, the box was fine before I bolted it to the engine and into the van

Well I have actually been working on the A35 Van, Sorry no Pictures, Late last year, I decided a chopping of the sump would be beneficial to the drivability as 20mm of ground clearance is not really enough, so, it got chopped about widened made shallower & baffled, I also took the decision to lift the engine too, that was about 25mm, put the car on the floor, and I was quite happy...... Move in the VW camper, thats mostly done now, so I am back..... Now my target is to get the little curse word started, Oils in the engine, battery is all Run and ready to connect, Need to Bolt on the ITBs and finish the fuel plumbing, not much to do, I think its the fuel reg that needs to sorted, and final fit the exhaust. Thats the starting point, The exhaust has been fitted up before, so that will be a hour long Job..... Yeah Right, 2 days later I'm about halfway there, and all because of that simple little thing of raising the engine listed the exhaust manifold by 25mm and also changed the angle of the bottom runner by about 10degs, which, in turn, meant the first section of pipe won't go thru the gearbox crossmember, so thats now off with the crossmember, slice and dice crossmember and finger ... tack together bolt up and it actually clears the exhaust so far, then.... connect the next bendy bit, no chance this bit now runs where the prop should best a quick cut n weld, it seems to be now running about where it should go, but a new hanger bracket needs to be fabbed, that a job for tomorrow, Ive come in now, I'm kin freezing..... Brrrrr

Not been a good day today. My lovely little Bambi silent compressor has gone PHUTT and all the magic smoke has escaped, and I have had enough of my Proxxon Mini Grinder, thats just been rubbish from day one, so in the new year, I will be looking for a new compressor and a new replacement for my Proxxon, I went to this because my Dremel had died, and Proxxon was the "best" option, the 20000rpm max revs was probably nearer 2k I got a replacement, and that was no better, so I'm looking for a reasonable mini grinder, and a decent compressor, probably about 8-10 CFM, so I can run all of my air tools, what would you lot recommend for both tools.
