Its again time for the old favourite of Wheels day, Normally at the abysmaly drained aldershot arena, for those who haven't noticed the Venue has changed, hopefully for the better, its now being held a bit further down the M4/M3 at the Newbury Showground, Thatcham, I have been going for 40+ years and really look forward to it.

Just looked at the relays, and realised the earth stud was loose, no more noises from them now its tight, connected up the the sub loom I made yesterday for my cooling fan, put a 30a fuse in the temp holder, tripped the relay and all still works, SO, I have ordered some more 100a Mega fuses, should be with me tomorrow, so I can replicate the accidental start in gear, just to see if it will blow the fuse,

As for dealing with any fuse blowing instantly like this from a dead short, replace the fuse with a bulb, and then you can safely go round looking for the short to earth until the bulb goes out. Colin Thanks Colin, I removed the blown 100a fuse, and ended up fitting a fuse holder on a fly lead, fitted a 10a fuse, turned on the power, ignition lights all came up, as did the interior lights, and stayed on, although I did get a strange noise come from a relay, thats where I am starting from, find that a bit strange, as I an sure tall the relays are normal low amp relays and would burn out before a 100a fuse, I now need to check all the relays, one is negative switching for the fuel pumps direct from the ECU, plus all the relay outputs are fused,

Strange thing today, went to power up the car after doing a small bit of rewiring, wire for wire, so it should not be an issue, turned the master key in the boot, and nothing, not even the interior light, checked the battery, 12.7v, but nothing at the other side of the MEGA 100a fuse, bit weird, no other fuses blown anywhere, no smell of burning, nuffink. bearing in mind I have been driving the car about prior to this without issue, checked my bit of rewiring and can't see an issue. The only thing that is in my memory, a little while ago I installed extra starter button under the dash, leaning over the car I leant on the button, car was in gear and the handbrake applied, could that have blown a 100a fuse in the starter circuit, or, could it fatigue thru heat cycles ,

Yeah, I could. Not sure the McCulloch by itself ( with its current pulley ratio) generates enough boost to justify that kind of effort, though. well I can see the obvious suggestion in my head, Party Pulley.................

I had a 2 door Corsair late 70s, early 80s, they were sold in the UK from dealers, but never very popular, Mine was on 6" Lotus wheels, (Genuine "Special Equipment" wheels) very low, and an Ian Walker built 1500, Paint was Rover chocolate brown with a white roof. Good Luck with the rebuild, looks to be a reasonable shell Oh wow, any pictures? Sounds like a lovely car 👍🏻 The shell does look to be pretty good, the odd poor repair to try and tidy and a few small repairs but hopefully nothing too major. Unfortunately no, I think it was about 1976/7 when I had that, so a fair few years ago, about that time I also had a Mk3 Zodiac Farnham Estate, both I wish I still had today

Been quiet on the Toledo, but a couple of silly little things pleased me in the post, to try and complete the deception with the wheels I intend to grind off the cast ATS makers mark, and install the "COSMIC" covers that arrived from different parts of Europe this week

Looking at the Holley style top hat, from my perspective, I think the issue might be the injector plate underneath, the gasket dosent help being blue and its all VERY square and modern, , it hides under the helmet, but now the extra 12 holes now makes the helmet even worse (as you may guess I'm not a lover of it ) Putting my engineering head on and being constructive, My thoughts on the Holley top hat would be paint it matt black, and get the injector plate black anodised too, or paint for that matter, or even a more contentious idea, which would be hard to do, Strip and mask the injector plate very well and heavy shot blast the top and sides and leave it to go grey over time, make it look older than it is,

I'm pleased this thread has taken off. I wasnt sure if they were terrible cars or everyone thought they were ugly haha. Is the 1725cc Holbay engine in the H120 something pretty special say compared to a 2.0 pinto? Just interesting to compare to a Capri as I own one. Such a shame more of them didnt survive... love the side stripes with the rostyle wheels. As was said earlier though, a mint one isn't cheap and I'd probably buy a better Capri or something American given the choice. A H120 at the time was a better performer than the Mk2 Lotus Cortina. but never had the Cudos of the Lotus Badge, Chrysler got the Lotus badge with the Sunbeam Lotus, which always struck me as odd because the Basis of the Lotus engine was Vauxhall,

I had these in my Mk2, Astra GTE Recaros obviously recovered in red vinyl, the best bit about these is they have small bolsters on the squab and back, plus they are COMFY, I have another set being retrimed at this moment in black Vinyl for the Toledo

I too have always had a hankering for one of these, 302 powered as per Tiger, OR, use the doors and possibly rear wings to make a 2 door hunter, I know its a lot of work, but it would be a looker.....

Steve worked at Streatham Crash Repairs when that was built, with the likes of Steve Bradshaw, (Supercharged pro Street 4 door Mk1 cortina) Pete,Cant remember his second name who had a Mk2 pro st consul, Possibly Kev Elliot was working there too, and Ed Wimble was in the workshop opposite, Unfortunately Steve died a few yers ago in a roofing accident

Surely most of the cars that are displayed at Bromley Pageant are ULEZ exempt?? Mabybe so, Don't forget bromley pageant has been run by promotors, not Practical Classics and has not been for years, the entrants are the small part of making money, Autojumble, vendors and spectators are there also to make money for the promotors, theres not much worse than having people go to a show thats rubbish and not well attended, and the next year the show wont happen just the word of mouth, and the fear of making a loss will make the promotors pull the plug double quick
