Great car. I remember the disappointment as a little kid when my Dad bought a new Maxi; I was pleading with him to get a Cortina instead. The Maxi was rubbish! John Similar with my dad except I wanted him to get a Dolomite Sprint! (Maxi's aren't that bad).

Mine likes driving big 4x4's but that's down to previous necessity (horses), she'd love a Fiat 500 (new shape) or a big pick-up, but the latter is just to annoy people. Prior to horses and the need for a 4x4 to tow a horsebox she went through most of the Fiat range Panda/Punto/Uno/Tipo.
Drove my MX5 a bit and liked it.
Hates my Alfa and wants me to change it for an Audi or BMW (not happening).
We do agree on a Range Rover just (L322), she likes Freelander 2 and Discovery 3 & 4's I won't consider either.
I think we'll be sticking with what we've got for a while yet.

What's the Ford V6 that they use in Morgans these days (Coyote)? that might be a good choice. Frankly a Mondeo Duratec V6 would probably be a significant improvement. When I did the factory tour earlier in the year at the Motorpunk magazine launch they had loads lying around, it's the 3.7 L Ford Cyclone V6

Not convinced by this Anglo-America approach I think you should think about a Jaguar V6 or V8. You can buy a complete 3.0 V6 S-Type for about £1K to slot in. Will give you sufficient power and probably much better balance, can be used with a MX5 gearbox with an adapter.

Received one of these Molotow Liquid chrome pens today after seeing videos on youtube They looked good, but afer seeing it for myself all i can say is go and buy one. Chrome paint has never been so good, or easy. I bought the 1mm and its perfect for detailing anything really. Its not mettalic, its a solid shiney surface. Ive got things to do... Will be interested to see how you get on, I've got some Corgi repaints that I need to detail.

Start making it a habit to reverse in to parking spaces, rather than out. Occasional awkwardness getting stuff into the back of the Land-Rover is a small price to pay for being able to see when I leave. Reversing into parking slots (not parallel parking) was recommended to me as a personal safety thing, if you're being chased you have the car door between you and your attacker and can also exit the space quicker. Some car parks mandate it.

Renewable is the way forward but it does need to be stored somewhere for when it's not sunny, windy etc. So battery technology needs to improve, or things like the hydro-plant in Wales where they pump the water up in off-peak times and let it flow when they need more power. It's a pity that things like the Severn tidal barrage got canned.
Micro-generation would be a good thing, solar on houses/offices small water turbines etc.
When I did my degree in Coventry (Lanchester Polytechnic as it was then) in the late '70's they were working on tidal power generation then. Personally I don't now why you can't have a tower in the sea that has a tank at the top and a turbine at the bottom, tide comes in fills tank, when you want power let the water out.

Trying another background, this time self built. I got some images of Mews houses from expensive London estate agents and scaled them, roughly, to 1:43 and added them to the roadway from the French street scene. Works quite well, this is only printed onto normal paper would be better on to photo paper. Thought I'd pose some Range Rovers, first a Monte Carlo blue L322 (Vanguard model),our D2 is Monte Carlo blue and I'd love to get a L322 RR. IMG_6542-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr IMG_6544-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr IMG_6540-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr I think it looks better with the background slightly out of focus (f8.0 instead of f20, did try f4 but that goes too far. Specially for georgeb some P38's, not sure what make the models are might be Cararama IMG_6548-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr IMG_6550-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr

I've seen that video before and yes I can relate to it, seen a counsellor in the past doesn't really work for me. I need to make the effort to get started on things. Agree re model making, I've been doing something similar (see my thread in small torque forum.retro-rides.org/thread/205630/marks-1-43-renault). I need to buy a big Lego model! My wife had a bad leg injury and has been diagnosed with PTSD (mild) and the advice she got from her doctor was the same as the advice you were given, avoid stressful situations and do something you enjoy (unfortunately for her she enjoys horse riding but that was what caused the injury).
Keep us updated.

So the funeral was this week. I feel a little more at peace now but still not completely over the whole situation. I'm booked in to see my Counsellor later this week, something I hoped I wouldn't have to do again. I learned ,last time round, that exercise helps with the production of serotonin which is the hormone that makes you feel happy which is the one i'm lacking. I believe that this is what the drugs you take to help in these situations replaces. So I was sitting having afternoon tea break at work when our Welder/Fabricator popped round to see if anyone would be interested in buying his mountain bike. Some hard earned pennies changed hands and I ended up owning this. Hope you get sorted, I'm going through a down period myself*. At the moment it's 3 steps forward and 2 back, could be worse 2 forward 3 back I suppose. Have joined a gym just need to start going to it :-) Going out for a nice drive would be a good lift, except the car is in bits and is one cause of the current stress. With the car it's a vicious circle I get stressed that it needs work, then stressed even m ore as I can't get the motivation to sort it out. *not as serious as losing a friend though

I’ve always quite liked the look of the Smart roadsters, but they do have a bit of a reputation for being rubbish. An MX-5 is a far better bet if hairdressing is a career option you’re serious about. Oi, no pandering to stereotypes round here, otherwise I'll be making comments about keeping your drive well lubricated by driving a Land Rover* *I should know I've got one as well as a MX5.

Well I've got a new job, 2 actually but that's another story, and I've probably over committed myself! But motivation for doing car related things has disappeared not helped by the weather and lack of garage. Also I had to replace a door mirror glass on the Discovery after a woman couldn't judge clearance and took the door mirror out and now the Alfa is making gearbox noises (known weakness in bearings), I at least need to change the gearbox oil. I really need to get the handbrake on the MX5 sorted and loosely bolt the new wings on then get it down the body-shop, anyway as it was Black Friday (not that I particularly like the idea of mass commercialisation) I did venture on to the MX5parst website; Do I need them not really but why not and they look good #becauseracecar I was actually expecting them to be braided and shiny but performance is what matters and I got stickers! Also some time ago I bought some LED amber and white lights to use as indicators/side-lights and clear repeaters with bulbs (I want to get rid of the repeaters in the wings). Hopefully getting some more consultancy type work which will mean more budget available (unless it gets spent on the Alfa or an Alfa replacement, ummm S-type Jag with petrol V6 that could find its way into the MX5 with a Rocketeer conversion).

Goes without saying lights much better.
I think you should bobby trap the soup with a remote detonator, we had rats in our garden they were living in the compost heap and eating spilled bird food.

Is that a foam mould? As in, its the core that melts away leaving the steel shaped? No. Its one of the patterns to make sand cores. We needed to cast 200 links. Cast two links at a time . Might see that in the Combat dealers episode, but haven't seen what they actually used ,footage wise 😊 The y just showed you breaking out the first two 'test' links from the mould, they also said they needed 172 links.

I was watching Combat Dealers on quest last night, there was a section about tracks for a Panther 1 tank, wasn't that something you were involved in? If so a man called Johnny with a suspicious accent appeared on the show to deliver the castings...
Fascinating episode showing the factories in the Czech Republic.

I can remember when the rag'n'bone man (not the singer!) used to come round and folks would go out with shovel and bucket to collect it for the roses ! aaahh, good 'ol days... This is going as off-topic as @quatermass supposed car thread... anyway to add to the off-track topic there was the man who got fed up with cats using his rose bed as a toilet and put Lion dung down he lived near Chipperfield's winter quarters (near Windsor).

Now if only they could come down as hard on the horse riders leaving their horse poop everywhere, so much bigger than dog poop. I hate horse poop laying about. It can serve a purpose, if it's still steaming, expect to encounter a one tonne burger around the next bend...... As told by an instructor to me on an advanced driver course. At least with horse droppings it's bio-degradable and normally disappears quickly.
