It wasn't the first car like that 1955 Enrico Nardi Le Mans entry; Called the 'strangest car to race at Le Mans' it was literally blown off the road after 6 laps when lapped by the leaders. Info source an article in this months Classic & Sports Car.Oh and because this is 'Small Torque' Bizarre do a 1:18 scale model of it.

Please say you're going to turn up at the speed awareness course in the Pop.
Do you have a link for the USB socket, I've got a similar one but not with the built in voltmeter.

My first car was a Renault R8 (1100cc rear engine, swing axle, non-servo 4 wheel disc brakes) which taught me a lot about car control early in my driving career like a week after I passed my test I oversteered into a curb and bent the first of many wheels... The below are Solido models, quite nice, the yellow one is called a R8S on the box,m but looks like a Gordini to me (need to get a blue with white stripes model;). IMG_6535-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr IMG_6532-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr IMG_6539-1 by Mark Palmer, on Flickr I have to say mine, which had been my mum's and was passed on to my sister, didn't look as nice as the model is. It ended up hand-painted a dull red.

Very nice, tempted to get the Eagle F1 model. A few years ago I did 'buy' the plans for the Lotus 49B and started to build but getting some of the parts (Bricklink) was difficult/expensive, I'm thinking now that I can get the Eagle but build the Lotus.

They seem to love the word community. They highlight the "Flickr community" in almost every press release but its clearly not a community when the users have to put up with the whims of the company in charge. Dave. There are some very active 'forums' on flickr and I did participate in a local flickr community, related to strobist, that was very good for a short while. You can just ignore that side and just use it for image hosting.

Please stop with the Raquel pics*. It's hard enough to concentrate in here as it is * please don't stop with the Raquel picsOr, at least make it relevant. Ms Welch. And a car. Although strictly speaking to be relevant on here, it ought to be a plastic car. Possibly on fire Nice display of curves... (on the rear wing of the car of course).

Facebook has much worse problems than charging a monthly subscription fee. Yes, be very wary of how your copyright might change once you post an image on fb.

apparently I should have bought a reliable German car. Don't do it ! ( my experiences, + the "The BMW of Woe" thread by ChasR should give you plenty of reasons ) Go for something trustworthy and reliable, maybe a Lancia or Fiat ? Had plenty of FIATs with little trouble, a Lancia would be nice always liked the HPE* or a Thema. To be fair I've had reliable German cars as well. Think I'll stick with the Alfa at the moment. * I mean the HPE is like a Scimitar but with more class...

Track car costs??MiataMark

I bought my MX5 with the intention of doing track days, however I've only managed to do 2 in 4 years so haven't got much data. A couple of points that I can think of;
- it's easy to get carried away with the car (I've spent many times the value of the car, suspension, roll-bar, harness etc with more to spend).
- you can have fun in something cheap with little preparation, the 2 track days I did was before I spent lots of money and it was fun
- getting held up by cars that are fast on the straight but slow on the corners is very true even for my rubbish MX5. I just tended to slow down a bit and get a gap before closing up again.
- I did a track day at Castle Combe and an airfield track day at Abingdon. Abingdon was better is some ways as there were less fast and expensive cars there, at Castle Combe there were race teams using it as practice.
- I drove to the track but got my wife to act as support in her Discovery. If you break it I think the trick is to tow it onto the nearest road then call the AA/RAC who might turn a blind eye.
I really must do some more days next year, although they've closed 2 airfield tracks near me, Lyneham and Hulavington, so realistically it's only Castle Comber or Abingdon that are close by. Thruxton would be good but expensive and a bit of a waste in a standard 1.6 MX5!

With recent experience of rescuing SWMBO from a broken down Land Rover* I can certainly attest to the relation between scale of broken down Land Rover and look on SWMBO face. Thing is it's her Land Rover and we wouldn't have started buying them if she didn't want to transport horses around, horses gone now but I've become used to having a Land Rover so it's my fault when it breaks. The look of smug satisfaction on her face when the Alfa breaks down is even worse, apparently I should have bought a reliable German car. I've given up worrying about the look I get for having a partially dismantled MX5 on the drive (although she actually likes that one). *fuel pump gave up the ghost after getting blocked up by sediment in the tank only £380 to get repaired, although probably more like £2K at A L-R main dealer, apparently they charge £150/hour labour [yes I should have sorted it myself but I didn't diagnose it and by then it was at the garage, small independant L-R specialist, and couldn't be moved]

What do you do for security? What sort of limitations are there on storage and bandwidth? The last time I did things that way I found it clunky, counter-intuitive, unreliable, and more expensives than the Photobucket subscription I was paying for a better service (until they messed that up). It's an absolute minefield to the novice to try and understand what services are safe and reliable and what ones aren't, especially when you're not particularly tech-savvy. I had to rely on a friend to help manage the info and understand how to upload and find things because the whole thing was baffling to me. I'm not alone in that either. I haven't the time to be faffing about setting up my own personal image hosting whatnot, learning how to use it, and all the rest of it. I just want to click-and-go, like everyone else. I can still enjoy my cars without making detailed build threads and keeping abreast of updates and I want this to be fun, not yet another chore. As things stand, the forum uploader is the best solution for maintaining a thread because it's there and straightforward to use for the most part. If nothing else, it's a good way to keep people using the forum because it offers something not all of them do. It's not a image hosting solution as such, just think of it as cloud storage that can be easily linked to in forums. As for security, security of what? 1and1 (Ionos) is £6/month for basic hosting and you get 100GB included. The forum up-loader is by far the most convenient method but it's limited to one forum and again the longevity of it is out of your control. Pistonheads has a integrated uploader as well, using thumbsnap?. Using my own domain works for me as I already had it in place.

^ that looks nasty.
One thing I noticed though is the seats with small and probably useless head-rests. I think a decent seat would help a lot.

I self-host some of my images, although the images aren't obvious to view directly. Pretty simple to do; - buy a domain (I pay less than the Flickr subscription for a number of domains)
- create a folder, or folders in the domain (Only needed to do once)
- transfer images to folder (use FileZilla or similar free FTP tools)
- add url to post
Can't see that that is much different to using Flickr or PB.

Another long-time Flicker pro-account user, can't remember why I choose to 'go pro', I think it was because a pro account enabled you to be more 'organised' (albums etc.)
TBH in this day and age you can't really expect a provider to offer unlimited storage for free unless you want a site blighted by adverts (which currently Flickr is free of).
I find the upload facilities etc to be pretty good.
I'll be sticking with Flickr unless they hike the fees a lot (then I'll just host the images myself).

Surprisingly, he quite enjoyed the sorting of the parts (as said the bags are quite randomly packed). We started by simply sorting in to colours, then separating the colours in to similar parts (separate piles of red slope bricks, red smooth plates, red studded plates, etc) and this seemed to be quite relaxing for him. He also made the flat-12 engine, including crank, con-rods and pistons, but then PS4 called! Sorting Lego is a very therapeutic activity (unless you kneel or step on any).

IS it not broken into sub-assemblies, engine, suspension etc. that can be built as separate parts?

Crash investigators used it to show what forces come into play in an accident. Always better to be in the heavier car, less damage and less whiplash. Goddess = doubleplusgood then and one of these would deffo help That's no good it'll just scoop a car up and flip it into the windscreen. Having typed that I do realise that it's designed to push obstructions to one side.

Going even further off-track...
I did a company advanced driver course a long time ago part of which was to show horrible examples of crashes. One that they used as an example was a crash in fog on the M4 near Membury. The crash shut off all three lanes mainly because people were driving too close. A driver avoided the accident by driving on the hard shoulder stopped just past the accident and was then hit by another car and killed.
As for being in a heavier car, I definitely feel safer in my wife's Land Rover Discovery than in the MX5 (even with a roll-cage)!

I get the whole roll cage without a crash helmet thing, nobody would want to bash their head on a stout metal tube. But it all depends on the position of the cage and whether it's a half or full cage.
I'm a lot happier driving an MX5 with a half-cage than without, if it rolls over I'd rather bash my head on a cage then drag it along the road and it's far enough back that it would have to be pretty extreme for my head to it anyway.

I'd like very much to meet with like-minded fools enthusiasts. Brighton sounds good Royal Wooton-Bassett less so I wanted to post a witty riposte to this but it's now so far back in the thread that it seems ridiculous! Anyway I might even dig out a tent and come to the weekender, do we have to register for the Naughty Corner of the camp site? Surely* I can get the MX5 to a roadworthy state by then, if not I'll bring down on a trailer and we can use it for welding/mechanicing practice. * don't bother with the Naked Gun jokes I'm sure we've all heard them before Shirley. p.s. luckyseven two 't's and no hyphen please.
