I'm assuming the mate, like the OP, assumed he was insured. Lent in good faith..... Probably yes... but I just object to the idea that he would be a bad mate because he didn't want to join you in your punishment for your foolish actions. He lent the car and nobody really bothered to check the insurance situation because the car was showing as insured. Hadn't accounted for the possibility of a speeding fine turning into an insurance enquiry! I view it as two people getting in trouble needlessly for the actions of one person when only one person has to cop for it. And there's the rub, no one really checked. If I lied and told my mate I was insured, I'd do whatever I possibly could to make sure nothing came down on him, then run away with my tail between my legs for being a bad friend. If both of us just assumed, then that's on him too. The offence comes from the owner not checking. The friend didn't check. Therefore if he did get done for it, it's something he actually did. Getting out of punishment for something he actually did by making a false taking without consent charge would be properly out of order imo. Both people have blame.

Open the seal out? How will you do that? I have an old vertical pump that needs similar looking at...although it was my grandas, so knowing him I imagine it's been apart and fettled plenty before! It's a leather parachute seal. It's cupped so as it tried to push air, the seal sides are pushed harder into the cylinder wall. There is about 10mm of side wall on the seal so I just pulled it open a bit.

I walked past a back street garage today who were wagging up a mk2 cav cabriolet.
Fancy another? 😂
Funnily enough, I think I've only ever seen 2 mk2 cavalier cabriolets and they were both in Sheffield.
We're they factory or a conversion?
Yours just keeps looking better.

Speak to a driving offences solicitor. Don't want to be that man , but- You will not get a SA course due to the previous penalty but more for the no insurance. In theory they could give penalty for speeding and no insurance and you can get banned on points tot up. The other thing to worry about is your mate can be liable for permitting the offence of driving without insurance. It is unusual for them to pursue these permitting offences, however these type of offences are considered absolute and the onus is on you to rebut them. Some legal pleading required i'd say SPEAK TO A DRIVING OFFENCES SPECIALIST SOLICITOR .... SOON! Good luck Hi, I also hate to say this but the outcome of this could be down to your mate. If he has the choice of 'aiding and abetting' by letting you drive without insurance or saying you 'took without owners consent'. Which way do you think he will jump? Colin If a mate would drop you in it for taking without consent rather than taking the aiding and abetting charge, then better mates are needed!

Had a little look at why if's not pumping. Took the top pivot out, spring off, pump piston out. Came apart pretty easy. Looks like no fasteners have been touched before. It's never been oiled and by the looks of it, it's hardly been used. The one way valve is in the piston head and air comes up through the piston shaft. Means there is only 1 seal in the thing which does anything. No need for shaft seals etc. Inside isn't full of gunk, it looks new! Seal looks new and is supply. I opened it out a little, put it back in, and it pumps! I'll oil the seal, clean, polish and paint it, and put it into use. I'm over the moon with its condition considering it was a blind eBay purchase.

Hi, Buy another one and then have one done each way. It seems to be your M.O. Because one is none and two is one. Colin I intend to buy more, but not of the same make/model. Lost of interesting foot pumps out there!

As if I didn't have enough little projects on the go, with 2 compressors in bits and a new shed to build, I figured I'd like a non working old foot pump. A pcl emperor mk2. Apparently what the AA used to carry? Nice brass body, heavy steel frame, and a cast aluminium base unlike the cast iron bases of earlier pumps. Doesn't move any air right now but it's presumably just leather seals inside like normal, so I'll strip it and make new seals. I have been meaning to get a foot pump for years as it's annoying not having one, but modern ones are junk so I'd never given in and bought one. Hopefully this will prove a more reliable tool!

To block the noise you need mass. Get some 2nd hand heavy duty rubber floor mats or similar rather than carpet, carpet isn't dense enough. Sound proof plasterboard is an option but when I've used it I've done for two layers of it with offset joints. Sound proofing only works if done properly, absolutely no gaps for the sound to pass through. My thoughts with carpet, especially with what I plan to build, is to try and take the energy out of the sound, by making it have to move the carpet, before it gets to the mass. It's just guesswork though.

I had a load of 'On Air' signs which were gifted to me by a local amdram society after a production They were just a black painted plywood box with the letters routed out and a piece of tissue paper glued on the back They had 40w bulbs in them I sold the lot, but advised everyone to fit a energy saver bulb, or low voltage unit Looked too much like a bonfire looking for somewhere to happen to me! 😳 Sounds ideal! Shame you sold them all. You can buy fashion ones, but I'd quite like a proper one, or at least something that has been used for the right purpose. I want something that lights up in the workshop to remind me the compressor in the other shed is switched on. I was going to make an "air on" sign or some such, the I twigged a nice "on air" sign would be great!

Our local boot sales are normally pretty good. My top tip is if there are any small, rural ones, go there! Especially if it's quite well off with an aging population. They bought good stuff in the 60s 70s and 80s and these days they are selling it off. Today got me a small tub of swafega original for £1 Not very exciting, but I also got this administer pendant drill, complete with a chisel holding hand piece and 2 sets of chisel tips. £10! The receipt was in the box. These are £240 new! All the old tool vultures were rooting through boxes, buying old G clamps and arguing the price on £5 Bosch hammer drills and no one even looked at this. I have a dremmel with flexi shaft already but this is alot better, I'll order a cheap Chinese drill chuck hand piece for it too. What I was really after was a grayson flip clock, vintage foot pumps, and an "on air" sign, but this will do instead.

Everything you have done on this is nothing short of amazing. With that in mind, I think painting the bumpers may be a mistake. I'm only going by the fact I've never seen it done and them not look painted and I've seen too many peel. It may well be possible to do a perfect job, and if you can, ignore the above. But everything else is just how it should be (or better). I think i rather have slightly faded original plastic finish than textured paint. Or, you may prove me wrong and change my mind on the viability of painting bumpers black! Edit, I zoomed in and I don't think it even looks bad as is. Maybe in real life it looks worse? Thank you kindly. There are paint products specifically for this kind of job - a friend has used such stuff on his bumpers and it looks sweet. I can't remember what the product is called, but it's a very fine textured semi matt paint that can be tinted to whatever colour you need. So long as the preparation is good, theres no reason why it would peel - all cars have painted plastic bumpers these days after all. At the end of the day though, it's a bit of a faff, so other options need to be explored first. Gtechniq C4 is amazing on plastics. Might be worth a go before trying to paint them. It appears to be expensive for what is a very small bottle but it goes on at nano thickness so lasts for a very long time. Thanks for the suggestion- they're not really faded, they're just sporting a few scuffs and nicks that will irritate me when the rest of the car looks half decent. I may have found a new pair - just need to scrape some pennies together! Ok, sounds like a viable option then. Maybe see if you can get some that isn't SUPER black, as I assume these were a very dark grey originaly?

Buy new transit Paint trees on it with grease Wait 3 years for the rest to dissolve Easy. What & that doesn’t apply to VW’s 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You have to wait 4 years for VW's, but only 2 years for Merc sprinters.

I would like to know how much time was spent on restoration and where is this car now? Does anyone know anything? The deleted member involved has his own forum now called brm I believe. Probably the best place to ask.

yes yours being much bigger will help. I was thinking about insulation, and looking on ebay , and me being a bit tight fisted, it all seems expensive for what it is. So thinking of making the box, then another box say 2" smaller inside, and then using expanding foam to insulate it and make it quieter. Will seal the pipe on the side too now thinking of using some pallet wood i already have and some roofing felt to cover the outside of it. I think a vent in the bottom would be usefull also, let any water out... Having made similar structures before, you'll struggle to fill it with expanding foam without it blowing itself apart! Even with holes for expansion. Maybe just make the inner and outer walls, No top or bottom, and just fill those first. I have insulated 3/4 of my 30sqm workshop so far and it hasn't cost me a penny. All in kingspan type pir insulation boards. Keep an eye on Facebook for free offcuts and keep an eye on skips. It's surprisingly easy to pick up free insulation. There is normally a place nearby that does seconds too, 25mm insulation board can be had for £20 for an 8x4 sheet if need be. I think if I was doing one the size you are, I'd frame it in timber, tongue and groove the outside, put 25mm insulation board on between the studs, then pin carpet to the inner frame, so it has an inch or so gap between the carpet and insulation. Put some insulation on the floor with a piece of ply on top to sit the compressor on to keep it off the base. All guesswork, but should keep it dry and quiet.
