The MOT on my Astra is due in 2 weeks, and according to the online .Gov website, the 6 months hasnt been added yet. Does this get added a few days before, has it stopped or is it just it has 6 months extra without any record of it? I only ask as I have 1 weekday off in the next 3 weeks to get it tested if I have to, but a weeks holiday next month, so would prefer to do it then instead of rushing.
Cheers guys

With/without tyres, scruffy, as long as they're not chrome, or hugely expensive (car really doesnt warrant really nice wheels ) let me know what you have. Ideally in North Wales or North West, as lockdown still applies in Wales. Or shipped. Just let me know

I'd be more inclined to get a tube of compound, and have a go by hand if you're not confident with the electric one. I did similar on my Mondeos door.

First ones I've bought in ages, saw it at Home Bargains and I like pretty much all of them. Cant believe how much the prices are jumping up now though.

I’m looking at dealing with the rust on the Midget. I don’t currently have the money to replace panels, but would like to limit the spread of rust if possible. There’s a bit of bubbling in a few places but nothing worse than that. How would you guys go about tackling it? I was thinking a knotted wore wheel on the angle grinder, a rust treatment of some description (hydrate 80?) then a quick skim of filler, sand and paint. Does anyone have any better alternative approaches? I did exactly the same last year on my wedding car, funds were tight and I caught what i thought was a minor rust bubble walking past. I ground as much out as I could, poured kurust in there, filled and painted just so it didnt look an in the wedding pics. It's back with a vengeance now, 12 months on. I knew it would be a temp fix though.

So I saw this yesterday while out delivering and today found it has a sad story. It's a Vectra ST200, apparently only 37 ever made. This one belonged to a guy who went off to serve in the Army and never returned home. His family can't let the car go because of sentimental value. A sad story on two levels. It represents a loss, but it's also sad to see it just rotting away like that. This used to pop up on VVOC (long dead I think now) on a regular basis, and even knowing the story youd get bellends knocking on, how they have to sell because its rarest of rare, surprised it's still there, last I heard someone was threatening to drag it away and apply for the logbook like that Escort Cosworth. That was a few years ago though.

I paid 80 for my 1999 Ford Cougar, from my tame mechanic after it failed its MOT on a tyre, brake discs and a 50p sized sill hole. Think it cost me 150 or so to get it tested, and even being the looked down on Zetec, it wasnt slow, fairly comfy and all in a nice drive, I only sold it as the boot was curse word for a dog. Struggled to get 350 for it with 8 months ticket, and by Cougar standards it was a clean one. I think they'll start to appreciate soon as the banger boys are rinsing through the grotty ones.

Love that, cant beat a good beach cruiser. My dad bought an Apollo Retro new, and rode it twice. Was in the garage for a while before I decided it should become my bike. Got "accidentally" taken by the man my mum hired to get rid of some scrap, along with a lot of my Chopper stuff. Really fancy another now...

Thing is surely they will NEVER send a flatbed on the say so of the breakdownee (is that a word 😀) Its ok, ‘us lot’ saying on the phone, it’s dead it needs a flatbed. Can you imagine how many flatbeds they’d send out? If they listened to the diagnosis that everyone who breaks down said, they might as well get rid of patrol men That's fair enough, and had we been in a layby, or even a hard shoulder I could stomach them inspecting first. It was more the fact half the car was half on the inside lane that was the danger and needed moving, curiously not a single policemanist or traffic womble in sight for that entire time either, nor an orange phone.

I had the AA, never again. I used my cover on my mates v6 Vectra, rad hose went on the m56 and by the time we pulled in we knew it had done the head gasket, no compression at all. The only place we had to pull in was just short of the Runcorn turn off, no hard shoulder. Told them on the phone we were in a dangerous place, and that the car was 100% not repairable at the road side. They were definitely sending a flatbed. Hour later a transit arrives, guy takes one look, hears the total lack of compression on the starter and said yep that's bugged boys, I'll call recovery. After a debate on the fact we told them this he called recovery and drove off leaving us in the path of HGVs, and 2 hours later recovery arrived, but only to take us to Chester services for reasons that escape me. Told them not to bother in the end and got his dad to flatbar it home. Worst service ever.

Haven't really done much to the Astra lately apart from break it Rescued a friend with a dodgy fuel problem and followed him home, turning round the bumper caught the floor and ripped straight off. So that's bodged at the moment, I've got another that I've given a quick lick of paint, all the mounting are good but the fog lights are missing, and theyve become rather pricey. So I stuck that in the drive in the hope it heals magically and been bashing about in the Mondeo. Used a clay bar for the first time today, polished it loads but it's never been like glass, shiny but rough at the same time, the amount of curse word the clay dragged out was unreal, gave it a coat of AG Super Resin Polish followed by HD wax, cant believe how smooth it is now, Astra will be getting the same treatment when it's back in my good books

I'd have been interested in one for daughter #2 but your geographically as far away as you could be, not sure what postage would be? Probably a pain for a bike. I'm down in Horsham, West Sussex - where abouts are you? I've got no idea about postage costs - they really aren't lightweight though! I'm in North Wales not to worry.

Btw cracking job on the engine transplant, I had a mk5 Escort (well Orion) with the 105 1.8, it went a lot better than the black top Zetec in my mums Mk1 Focus. Sounded good with the induction kit as well.

That's pretty smart. Both of mine have a socket set in and a few screwdrivers, anything they cant fix general means it needs to see a garage and be recovered
