Found the Ever Ready rear light and bashed that on, also fitted innertubes that hold air. And replaced the inner brake cables as they were starting to fray at the lever end, last thing I want is my daughter or me steaming into a wall, weight of this thing the wall would come off worse Just need to find a pair of front wheel nuts the right size, local bike shop qont help unless I take them the wheel so will have to wait until a week Monday on my day off. And still looking for an appropriate seat.

They're chrome with the gold coating on, so from a distance they just look rusty its in really good order to be fair apart from its flaking like mad on the handlebars. And yeah the stem is incredibly overkill, I wouldn't want the gears to slip and my knee meet it I know that:D

Also just been through my parts stash, found an Ever Ready front light so bashed that on, and a pair of redlines, one new one half used, but at least they match. Also found some authentic 80s seat repair material (read insulation tape)

Do you know i tested out that very theory about 10 minutes ago, and the answer to that is yes, in the same way I can ride a bmx but look a bit stupid on it I reckon I could ride it a fair way before it hurt though, there's a fair amount of adjustability in it, almost like Raleigh thought "were on to something here, give it 40 years everyone will be riding these again". Anyway lacking one wheel nut and a seat clamp I set off to the immediate feeling of the crank going wobbly. These cotter pins are an absolute mare normally, I broke a decent size vice pressing out the ones on my last Chopper. Had one spare sp thought sod it I wonder if I can hack it out... it just fell out . So it rides ok, gears need oiling and adjusting properly, and if anyone has a set of amber walls, or just the one I'd be happy to rake them off your hands. I cleaned all the grease off with Wonder Wheels which worked really well, which revealed paint that says this bike wasn't used much, and it came up lovely with a good polish and wax. Need to see what I can do about a seat, its a strange shape but I may ask the mother in law to knit one for now Middle child stole it for a go, she said its incredibly heavy

So heres my new Grifter, I believe its a Super Grifter? Loft stored since 1985, came out yesterday. Thick with grease to stop it rusting, and apart from lacking a front wheel nut and a seat clamp all complete. Gonna give it a good degrease this weekend and see what it's like, also need a new seat as its just dry rotted out.

Just picked up a 1 owner from new Super Grifter, and the only thing that's missing is the front wheel nuts (been in a loft nearly 40 years). Does anyone know what size nuts I should be looking for? I've always had spares and just thrown them on but I'm fresh out and don't know what to order

I just mean shoddy standards in general, I have a mk3 Astra with a rusty arch, but seeing what "professionals" do and what they charge for it puts me off, I least I know its just rust rather than filler and rust atm

Great work, seeing what had been done to your doors is what puts me off sending my car anywhere, but you've done a cracking job in fixing it. Been reading for a while in the back ground

Thats a good one, ive had 13 Vectra B's, and had a 2.5 GSi, and I loved it. With a proper induction kit there was no need for a loud exhaust, it howled from the front when you planted it. Rust is a major killer here, my mechanically good ones rotted out and the clean ones all ate the chocolate F18 gearboxes or valve stem seals, including both on my Supertouring

If you ask nicely in the shop they'll give you some, Asda gave me loads, but ive put them somewhere safe it seems, cos I cant find them...

Back to daily duties again, Mondeo decided to empty its PAS fluid all over thr Road outside my mums via the high pressure line, so I just drove it home and locked it, not that many people would have the strength to drive it away as is, my arms are dead from doing the 2 mile drive home Anyway, washed it today, immediately rained so just ended up with a drive and a short walk.

Another little change, went back go clear front indicators with Silvertech bulbs. Don't know which I prefer, but these can stay for now.

My brakes weren't great, i swapped mine for the mintex drilled and grooved stuff, they're ok, nothing to write home about. Waiting for my bro to swap the brakes on his 225 so I can have the brakes off that. Really enjoying this thread, also seeing the differences from early to late cars. Its cleaned up a right treat, there cant be many left that have had this much work to iron out the niggles. Mojo wise I'm with you, mine being the diesel I'm eternally paranoid the injectors/turbo/pump are going to go, replaced an egr that lasted 6 months, and the aux belt tensioner and crank pulled that lasted 12. Decent (or so I thought) brand stuff as well. Also - mega jealous of the seats, whoever ordered mine was a right tight sod and left Recaros off altogether

Its a Sedicivalvole (16 valve) the Astra GSi or Escort GTi of its day, not seen one of them since I had my 1.4 12 years ago. Looks a good meet Dan, wish they were like that up here but they're just chock full of idiots now.

We still have one in Pentrefoelas albeit he had a football for a head now, still amusing how many people slam on for a dummy in a hi-vis

That's slightly more buried than the last time I saw it, used to be a house near it with a load of Subarus as well
