My 78 beetle was restored by an so called engineer in nw England. Spent 6k on parts alone. Loads of paperwork, receipts loads of pics. Work looked good from afar but most badly executed. He repaired the lower door skins, mad a total basket case off them buckets of fillers, quarters the same badly rubbed down shaped. The doors are flat instead of being curved, so i am reskinning the whole doors, it's the only welding. That needs doing. He fitted new floors made a fantastic job off the chassis, then jack car up on the both new floors beside jacking points damaging the slightly. So body of to sort them. Gearbox near empty of gear oil 1 busted gaitor fitted wrongs d split. Hub oil seals leaking etc etc. Full respray I brilliant white with duck egg blue sides
Tinys 126 has to wait as we can collect till virus calms down so he s going to help me do mine and learn

the alloys which are new will be for sale i hate them ,original rims will be blasted and refurbed tyres will be taken off the alloys

I might be able to find a home for the wheels for the school project Beetle. Got sets of original steels too - think I can even stagger up a set of 4 and 4.5j if I look hard enough! Just the logistics at the moment!
Being a '78, it's not a Last Edition is it? Someone certainly liked white paint too...

i have the original set of rims to refurbish , last of the beetles not a limited edition ,i had one of them changed it to duck egg blue , posting them is no problem

^ good call re the staggered standard steels, the cabrios rocked 4.5's iirc?
The problem areas need to be broken down into what they are, hopefully just areas that need sorting.
Anything that has been restored, unless you're standing over the guy when he does it, could have short-cuts unfortunately. At least if the pans have been done properly then that's a good foundation.
I see from the DVLA the car was first registered in Feb 1978 and the last edition bugs were around April 1978 so it's definitely towards the end of the German built bugs. If that interior is how it came (and looks very nice) it's a definite upgrade from the carp seats the LE beetles came with.
Hope you keep it all white mate, that whole different coloured sides is very 90s and when it comes to resale time, a lot of people may turn their nose up at it. White beetles aren't that common, especially very late ones like this. Hope you'll keep it standard as it'd be a shame to lose another one to the modification brigade. :-)

ill keeping it standard the whole interior was replaced new with original seat covers headliners full carpet set ,door skin will be the major job ,only welding to do.

one of the things that shocked me in the resto done was to fibre glass and fill the ariel hole , then put the ariel in under the bonnett , so this will be reopened

Shame the restore wasn't done nicely because it is a good looking Beetle in that white! Good luck mate, will be following this one.
