Watching this with interest - and know nothing of the 250's. However, here in the colonies there are any number of rusty late model jags for sale. Xj8 from the late 90's early 2000's. Not knowing if they fit but they seem cheap and reliable. My dream car continues to be an old car with a modern lump - fuel injection, lighter weight, more HP per CC, the possibility of AC. You don't seem to have any particular desire to be historically accurate so, why not remain marque accurate and get something reliabe?
(As an aside, while I don't own any cars that meet this criteria I don't understand why more larger historic saloons don't run an XJ6 engine - RWD and narrow enough to fit.)

Did you see the Chinese guy with the whisky Collection on the news the other day? They reckon it’s worth about £4.5m! A friend collected Single Malts - nothing like this but nice for normal people. His wife said to him one day. "you know, after you die, the kids are really going to enjoy your whisky." That very day he stopped collecting and started enjoying.

A friend of mine had one (going back to the Masser) - which means I've ridden in one He sold it a few years ago and bought this. Innocenti C (extra points for knowing - without looking - what the engine and drive train are from. But to get back on track, he also got a Lancia Fulvia - which has a Kammback

And the Cortina had those cool taillights which found their way to the 1963 Ford Lola GT (which I never knew existed and now have to buy a lottery ticket for)

Would you have taken this job on knowing how it would pan out? Absolutely not - its thrown the rest of my diary / workload schedule & clients to utter disarray - its not how I like to work and even now after all the effort the car is not has good has I would like it due to pretty shoddy stuff / parts that has been supplied by the client Not surprised and your patience and your willingness to repair the shoddy stuff knowing that it might otherwise reflect badly on you is praiseworthy. I likewise suspect that your final bill will be less than it ought to be. One thing that I keep pondering is how easily a project can expand and expand beyond the owner's plans or budget and sometimes even beyond the restorers estimate. Watching this project in particular makes me appreciate why there are so many abandoned projects for sale by shops who are just trying to get their investment back.

Loving this story, but can I clarify, are you there now? If so, how is that going?

Not this one by a long shot but my father dragged this home (in Canada!) when I was about 16 - I learned to drive stick on it and it was the family's second car for about 3 years. Wish I could find it now.

Don't suppose it would be possible for you to borrow the tank for a week or so - just to leave in the driveway by the garage as a bit of a deterent to anyone else breaking in?

Understood HoTWire ! I just think it's a shame that half the world seems to have slowly manoeuvred themselves into a position where they largely depend on b@stards like Bezos that have a complete lack of decency and a fundamental disregard for people and planet, all for the sake of "convenience". I don’t quite get the Amazon thing. Never ever bought a single off there & only been on the site (I think twice) & then it was from links that someone sent me. I would think of using it as my ‘go to’ option. Obviously can’t knock it’s popularity, just don’t understand why. I am as ambivalent about Amazon as others. What I do appreciate is that there is stuff I literally can't find in a real store (replacement halogen 12 volt pig tail sockets) and stuff comes today or tomorrow. And, there are almost no bookstores left - particularly specialty - theological etc. Still wish I could do it in person though plus all the Bezos frustrations to which I would also add paying taxes in my country.

I love this car! I likewise use DOT5 on all my classics. A few years ago I had an issue with my Midget where the fluid was getting past the seals due to slipperyness. I very light honing helped but, I ended up going to the store and shaking each bottle (Yes I know shaking is wrong) and buying the most viscous product which in Canada (at NAPA) is Prestone.

Love it! FWIW my microwave, apparently, when it breaks down, you call the 800 number and hold your phone up to the machine and it tells the service centre what is wrong. crazy
