That looks absolutely bang on. Really like the way you've modded this, nothing over the top just subtle yet proper mods that actually improve the car. Those new wheels look the business too. Top Corrado mate, probably one of the best I've seen.

Hi and welcome to RR. Now that is a lovely car you have there mate. Nice spec being a 2.5 manual o/d. Lovin' the browness and the TR6 wheels. Fitting the earlier grill was a good idea, looks far nicer. Dare I ask, but how much rust is there? Do you know if it's been "restored" in the past? 'Really hope this is as good as it looks. Cheers, Richard.

Great line up I'm a big fan of the old GM's love the 78 ascona can you tell me are the ATS wheels 13 or 14" ? Those ATS wheels will be 13" Dave. That Ascona 400 replica looks the business mate. What a line up of cars you and your Dad have got.

That's really nice, I do like the HB Viva. Personally I think the red top is the "best" engine for it. GM badge, excellent power with huge potential for more, not too big or heavy etc etc blah blah I'm sure you know already from past experience. It's what I'd do if it were mine (if only!) Otherwise I might I'd be tempted by the Nissan 200sx unit like Dave suggested. A Pinto's great in a period Ford but not much else IMO. Keep us posted, Cheers, Richard.

Some superb repair work going on there Tony. The underbody looks great, I do like to see it when the underside is painted to match the body colour.

Sudden thought: Should I go with suicide doors, a front-hinged bonnet and the old split tailgate idea, or am I just going to give myself a headache? I'll send you some Nurofen Angyl!

I had a butt weld to do so both edges were touching all the way across. Just melted the two together sort of in a criss cross fashion then smoothed it over afterwards. You can always build up or add with offcuts of the same material though.

Just wanna bump this back up to say a big thanks to cairyhunt (spelt carefully!) and co. who recommended plastic welding with a soldering iron. I had a go this weekend and it was easy once I'd got the hang of it. It took a fair while to get it to the standard I like to achieve but it really is strong and neat. Well chuffed. If I wasn't such a div when it comes to computors I'd post some pics up. I'll get Martin (emdee) to sort that out for me when he's got time. Thanks again, Richard.

Had a think about the GTI Engineering badge. GTI Engineering started in the late 70's modifying VW and Audi cars. They are better known as BBR/GTI and are still going strong today. I've had a quick look and it seems they did fit Zender bodykits back in the days when your car was new. It might be worth getting in touch with them to see if they can trace your car and see when the conversion was carried out?

Personally I think this needs fixing properly due to it being such a rare car. I know you only bought it as a daily but it really does deserve some love. That interior is stunning, lashings of velour, fake wood and chrome trim so typical of this era of Vauxhall/Opel. I can never understand why they left so many switch blanks on the dash when this was the top of the range? Even the more upmarket Opel versions I've seen don't have a full set of switches? What sort of power does the 2.8 carb engine make and how does it go on the road?

I gotta say I'm highly impressed with the standard of your work. That engine bay looks mint, these rusted for fun and yet this looks totally immaculate. The colour and privacy glass ain't my cup of tea but we can't all like the same thing. I do however respect someone who can achieve the standards that you have. Fantasic work mate.

Nice car mate, I can't remember the last time I saw one with this Zender kit fitted. I agree with Jon, it looked better on the Tarantulas, just needs a decent drop for maximum win. Do you have any further plans for it?

Great work Alex. I'm a regular on the PoloG40 forum and have replied on there too. Looks like you've bought all the best pics over on here which is good. The workshop have done a superb job on the paint, I can't wait to see this finished. You just got to love Dan's "Thanks for your order - Tracey is enclosed" sticker! Just what you need when you go to the post office to collect it! ;D Keep the pics and updates coming, Cheers, Richard.

Bet you were chuffed with the engine internals! The A6 is quite an old style grind by today's standards. If you ever rebuild it again think about replacing it with a Kent 244 or 254 depending how much lift your head can accomodate. The 244 will give you a bit more top end power but a lot more bottom end grunt. I bought another cam recently as it is not really suited to road/fast road use, got my self a kent KC3FY Application Power Band Cam Lift(mm) Valve Lift(mm) Duration Timing Full Lift VC (mm) LTDC Required Parts Sports 2500 - 7000 6.70 I 9.88 E 9.82 276 Deg 30/66 66/30 108 Deg I 0.30 E 0.36 I 2.16 mm CF6 / CF7 VS5 hopefully a bit more friendly for the road Yeah that's much more like it for road use. The A6 profile hails from yonks back and was designed for short oval/hot rod racers with low gearing. The lack of low down torque and power combined with a 3:54 diff probably made it feel even longer geared than it really was. The new cam should improve things considerably.

Get your self round here, I keep tripping over your bloody ally rocker cover! ;D Coinage required!!! Laters mate. haha careful mate, don't damage the rocker cover - er I mean don't hurt yourself ;D I'll bell you one evening this week and see what you're up to - may have to be the weekend. Coinage is no problem, all you have to do is PM me your bank account details, sort code and mother's maiden name and I'll get that across to you asap... No worries Martin, I was only joking about payment. I'd prefer cash when you're ready though. Cheers, Richard.

That's a lovely example mate. You were right about the autotest video though, you did need an LSD and TBH a hair cut would've helped! The Mini driver was pretty good, but to go sideways he needed to keep yanking on the handbrake, you merely prodded the throttle - the proper way! I'd say your engine was built to 1700 hot rod spec what with the A6 cam, those +90 thou' pistons, steel rockers, duplex vernier etc etc. Is your Escort early enough to have the compression struts locating the TCA's or does it have the usual ARB? Very nice car in a rare colour, unbelievable the paint is over 20 years old too! Thanks for posting. Edit, just seen in one of the engine bay pics that your Escort does have an ARB. I think it was only the very first ones on an F plate that were fitted with comp. struts?
