The rads do change on mk2's. Does yours have a plastic seperate headertank? Or radiator fillup? Only the very early Polo's had the different rad, not many of them left now. From '83 on, all mk2's had the same rads which were 380mm wide and had the seperate expansion tank. And yeah, I do know that some models had a 430mm wide core! ;D

That's just gagging for a 'Busa engine (sequential gear lever is already there!) and some wheelie bars. And they are rimz init! ;D

Ah I'm glad to see an update on this one. Those "steelies" are a fantastic choice, subtle FTW! Brilliant Minor build, just how I'd like to do it if it were mine.

Yeah, mine used to be a 1043 but is a '89 model with the HZ engine. The radiator code no. is the same on all mk2's (apart from the very early ones) unless you have one of the wider rads which is unlikely. The core width should be 380mm. If you want to play it safe, you can buy a brand new one for £34 including delivery from ebay seller coolpartsuk. HTH, Cheers, Richard.

Eh now that looks really nice Paul. Fern green metallic, Sundym tints and black vinyl roof look great together. Appears to be in excellent condition which I always like on any older car, not really into the scruffy look. I'm not up on wheel names, but those alloys really suit it especially with the period correct profile tyres. Lovely Cortina mate.

That's a flippin' nuisance about the radiator Angyl. If you want, I have one from my car you can have? It's in very good condition with no leaks. It's just sitting in my garage taking up space at the moment. You can have it FOC, just cover postage cost which is about £13.

More pics more pics more pics! What a lovely Manta, all the better for the sensible mods bringing it a little more up to date. I can't see from the pics but does it have a sunroof like most Berlinetta's? As cool as they are on a nice day they're a hateful design inducing rust quicker than a quick thing. I wanna see the red velour seats and lots of other good pics. Great work mate. Cheers, Richard.

I'd be very wary of trying to bend without the proper equipment. The pipe wall would more than likely collapse in on itself. Try taking it to a Longlife exhaust centre or similar and see if you can give someone a drink to bend it on their machine.

Sammo, you could try Adept Industrial Finshers. They are situated just off the Thornton Heath "ponds" roundabout on the A23 Purley Way. They media and soda blast, car bodies are no problem. They also powder coat, not sure on wet paint finishes though. Definately worth a try I reckon. Cheers, Richard.

Absolutely incredible! I've just read the first four pages of that thread, the bloke is hugely talented. It's incredible what some can achieve, you gotta respect people like that. Let's just hope he's hideously ugly with a willy like a walnut whip!

I reckon an AFH conversion would be ideal Karl. On its OE injection it'd be an excellent compromise between performance and economy. Bike carbs are ok as long as you get ones that are ideally sized for the engine and have them set up properly. So often I see and hear of engine conversions running on bike carbs and they run really badly with flat spots and so on. Poly bushes and a good quality lowering kit will really sort the chassis out. Well worth doing. Personally I don't think BBS RA's work on mk2's, but this is a superb restoration on a lovely car. Keep us posted mate. Cheers, Richard.

This looks really nice Karl, the bodywork looks great now the rust has been removed and it's resprayed. Can I ask the age old question... err how the battery tray?! Are you going to keep this virtually standard or will it get modded at all? What are you thinking long term with regards to the engine?
