Shell was strengthened everywhere, every seam was stitch welded: The welding and repair work wasn't perfect at this point, but in fairness I'd never picked up a welder until I started doing this! It was a learning opportunity. Underside got some love, with stitch welding and surface rust repair: More repair work: I hadn't fully committed to a 2.0 at this point but figured I'd do an alternator cutout required for clearance just incase: Repair section splash guards as the old ones were rotten: Then all underseal removed and etch primered:

Rewind to 2006, I started with a standard car. 1.4 Luxe Plus, single point injection with electric windows and all sorts of amazing stuff. Cost me £400 quid and I mainly bought it because it had solid doors and was local. This got tweaked into a slightly modified caged 1.6 8v MPI, which did me for a few years during uni. First ever project so lots learned so far. After uni I decided to rebuild it to my ideal spec since I was working. No real plans, just thought I'd see how I got on. Commencing stripdown: Interior brackets removed: Cav internal shifter dry fitted: Started with a tired looking bay:

Been enjoying this forum for a little while now, so thought I'd share my car(s). You may or may not be interested in my Nova trackday car, as a mk2 it's not overly retro but it is modified! I'm going to summarise my build to date here. Here it is as it stands now:

I keep coming back also to see if it's solved, but also to chuckle at the first picture.

Cracking Volvos, love the white estate. T5 in a 940 sounds like a great combo.

This is making a very enjoyable read, the tube work etc looks good. Might you be better with the thicker tubes across the top of the doors to form a 'proper' rollcage?
Out of interest how much time do you work on this? Would be such an awesome project to undertake but imagine you put a lot of hours into it.

Helix 4 paddle clutch just turned up in the post so might pop that in the track Nova. Then spannering for a mk2 Astra at a rally at Donington Park.

There is surely a point when it becomes more economically viable to buy a local shed than to move it 500 miles.
Nice collection of pick-ups.

I would have thought the electric PAS would only be drawing anywhere near 50a when giving full assist at slow speeds. Without the wheel turning I bet it's drawing next to nothing? I have it wired up directly to the +ve post, I use a rally style killswitch to distribute +ve wires to auxiliary items (takes big ring terminals).

The only solution I can see here, is to buy a car you don't really need and swap the insurance over Especially if said car costs £50. Although you'd then have to pay £25 admin fee to swap it over

Also if you go larger wheel with lower profile tyre, there's a chance it'll look a bit silly if not lowered (my personal opinion). May look better if you get a larger tyre profile to suit the 17s.

Did they refund you the remaining months of the policy if paid up front?
