Standard management etc is happy with a 2.2 bottom end? What components go into a 2.2 bottom end exactly? I.e. what block and crank?
I think you're misinformed about the higher output of the earlier XEs.
I'd love an XE Chevette, so cracking project, bulkhead looks good

I should add that "original" in the sense above means "of the original design" rather than "what the car came from the factory with" so a replacement engine, gearbox, diff, shocker, steering rack or similar is perfectly acceptable so long as they are like for like replacements. Got a reliable reference/source for 'original' meaning 'original design'? Surely a completely different car (e.g. exact same make and model) scores top marks with a different but 'original design' shell, engine, suspension, steering etc.

Very happy with my Halfords spanner set. In fact I moved to it from a cheapy well used set (maybe Clarke ones) and they're lovely to use. Would recommend them to any enthusiastic DIYer.

Price on brake pedal assembly please. Just the pedal, housing it sits in, not the servo and master cylinder
Just incase I can't find one at the scrappy over the weekend

I've had great success teaching myself to weld with a Clarke 151TE.
I would personally not buy second hand if you have £300 to spend, or you'll forever be wondering if parts are worn out or in need of replacing, whereas brand new you'll know it's all down to your abilities. Just my opinion though.

Looks good, plans sound great too, you need to go mega low on a saloon for slamming though!
Funnily enough I'm just about to break a 3dr saloon, so if you need any bits give me a shout (In fact I remember a green chequered seat wanted ad on PNG hmmmm, can't be too many people wanting them!).

To help you search around a bit, it's called travel.
I've got away with an 25mm before, but you may find it bottoms out a bit. Cut the bumpstop down for a little bit more (just make sure it acts before the shock itself bottoms out).
Another thing to consider is whether you have the clearance to actually consider shorter shocks to allow more travel.

Should be OK in that respect, it's pushes on a length adjustable rod that will flip the movement into horizontally operating 2 master cylinders.
Thanks sir.

Surely driving it on the brake rollers and the speedo not showing any speed is a reason for failure? Testing the operation of the speedo is not part of the MOT. It just has to look like its operational. Legality of having a working speedo is a different matter :-) If you're driving at 10mph on brake rollers and it's reading 0mph, then that to me would look NOT operational.

Can someone check these measurements and give me any confidence it'll do what I require please? Removed my brake pedal and took some measurements to get the pedal ratio, as I plan to ditch my servo assist in favour of a twin master-cylinder non-assisted bias-adjustable set-up. Pics of pedal and measurements: ![](http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2b/221.JPG) I make that 19cm between the pivot and the pedal, and 4.5cm between the pivot and the connecting rod hole. That gives a pedal ratio of 4.3:1. If I redrill where the white dot is in the second picture, that's 3cm away from the pivot, giving me a better non-assisted ratio of 6:1. Sound about right?

Built my car on my parents driveway, bought a house and a year later had a 6x6 metre garage built. I wouldn't dream of working on stuff outside again. I didn't know what I was missing before I had one.

I did ponder fitting one so had a drive of a mates car with one, they give a different pedal feel (instant progressive bite rather than travel then assist) but you get used to it.
