...Convince me not to buy a Trabant! I have seen a Trabant P50 for sale and it is literally walking distance from my flat, I am going to view it at some point just "to take photos and look at it". I have checked prices of them and they are still pretty cheap and insurance is only 31 euro every 6 months! So please people of RR give me reasons why not to buy as I can't think of any!!!

Just go buy it fella! I had most of my mates and family telling me not to buy an mgf,,it was a scratch I long wanted to itch, glad I did,,and I'm sure you will be glad with your trabant, get it and put the pics up soon,Dan

Not only am I unable to convince you not to buy it, but now I feel like searching classifieds for them just for fun.
Which, as we all know, often ends up with an impulse buy that was both unrealistic and unnecessary.

Let me get this straight. You want to go and have a look at a car, just because you want to go and have a look at it.
It has you that interested, you even want to take pictures. Just to have the pictures.
And you can afford it?
And you need reasons not to buy it..?
I think there is reason, only, for you to buy it. There is strong reason right there. And no sense will be found in suggesting anything else.

Sensible choice: Do it as an investment. You have a reliable daily driver and push bikes to actually get around in/on. Stash it away, repair it on the cheap, then sell it to someone who wants to pay double what you did for it..

Do it! If you have the means, I highly recommend it. I took Angela out for a spin yesterday, I'm still grinning thinking about the racket as I accelerated up through the gears, like a (small) bike! @elwoody, the 600cc 2takt lump is the best thing about it! The P50 is arguably a prettier car too, and there are plenty of places offering parts if you need them. (Danzer Autoteiler, trabantwelt, LDM tuning)  |
