I have to admit, it's been a couple of years since I last needed to go scrapyard hunting for parts. So I took the opportunity of the good weather and a few hours to kill to go and get filthy muddy, avoid the scarey chained-up dogs and get some pics... Isuzu Piazza!!! Blimey! A VERY rare sight over here. That engine looks OK, now where's a tidy Chevette...

Photo quality isn't great because I decided to be discreet and use my phone! Rotten MR2 but the engine looked OK... RX-7... Now there's an interesting engine for a transplant!

Under the RX-7, an old Supra That engine must be useful for something...

I was quite excited to see this Thema 2.0 And the white-hen on the 33 Sportwagen got me thinking...

Then a couple of interesting motors next door in a sort of 'for sale' bit: and this LT got me thinking too - a bit big for my needs but I hadn't considered them in my Transit thread. Oh, and this is what I went for: Mk1 Golf (non-GTI). yielded a few useful bits!

This is giving me withdrawal symptoms as I haven't been scrapyarding for about 18 months

I spend an unhealthy amount of time in the scrapyards! The yard you took the pics in had some interesting stuff! It's quite disappointing when all that's there is old Mondeos and Rover 200's. However on my last trip I found a T plate Volvo 66 - I've not seen one before! It looked fairly solid too.

Whats the deal with scrap? If you see a whole car you are interested in (probably perched underneath 3 Maestros) can you buy the whole thing? The men that work at Scrappys are usually Very Scary! I find myself almost apologising to them for being there whilst paying a fiver for something worth about 20p

Higgim - I've found when I've asked about buying a complete(ish) car from the scrappers thay usually put an inflated price on it, simply because they can get more money by breaking it. I've always been cautious about buying complete motors from the scrappy because you don't know if someone has come along earlier and took those rare-as-hens-teeth bits off of it!

Been up to the breakers this morning, lots of interesting stuff up there amongst all the newer stuff. I think there were: 2 Triumph 2000s, one had been prepped for a respray and looked fairly sollid, 3 Ford Anglias, a Porsche 928, a TR7, a couple of Minors inc. a Traveller, an Imp, Maxi, 2 SD1s, 2 Mk2 Escorts, a Citreon DS21, a Scimitar, what looked like a 2ft high Morris 8, a Delta Turbo, a Consul Capri and a rotten pillarless Merc (looked early 70s, don`t know too much about them) All I got was a warning light pod from a 2000, don`t need it, it just looked quite cool .

Cool. I was in the local scrappie lately and found an Imp (too far gone, the yard owner wouldn't let me buy individual spares, only the whole motor, and where am I going to put another one, I've already got two! ) a nice Volvo 760 saloon in silver with nice multispoke wheels, and a series A Opel Manta.

I find myself almost apologising to them for being there whilst paying a fiver for something worth about 20p I know what you mean, last time I went to our local scrappy they charged me a fiver for a MK3 Astra hazzard light switch... I was quite glad they didn't have the air intake hose I wanted as well, I would have been bankrupt.... They do have a few interesting cars though... an Austin A40 Farina, Superminx (VERY rotten) MK2 Cortina, Alfa Spider (crunched front + rear) and a couple of MK1 Escorts. I remember trips to the scrapyard with my old man, 25- odd years ago..... Anglias, Heralds, Morris Oxfords Ect everywhere.... "SIGH"...... happy days!!!!

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
