it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

As it wasn't your fault, you can (i think) have it repaired.

tell them to just give you another one as good as yours was, instead of the £250.
Fugging scammers.

Sh*tty news. Hope you're alright man. That's the 2nd RR Golf rear-end casualty this year What's the boot floor situation? Hopefully the insurance co won't write it off completely and you'll be able to buy it back off them for a nominal fee - got no idea how that works though

Ouch! As said before you should insist that its repaired. The whiplash claim will cover any other losses

Ouch! As said before you should insist that its repaired. Good point its irrelavent how much its worth, its damaged! I got seriously messed about when my xr2 was clubbed by a blind 106 driver. Eventually settled for an ok figure plus car, sadly it was rotted too. Golfs are usually ok on that score.

Don't ever accept the first offer from the insurants company, they try it on as a business policy. Find adverts and print them/cut them out showing that 16 valve Golf Mk2s are worth 1000-1500 upwards. Argue with them until they back down - they will do.
I got 1300 quid for my Mk2 Golf Driver btw.

Our initial offer on the Mini was £1500 to write it off. Eventually they agreed to the repairs which were like £2600 worth...
Car was never quite the same after that though.
I've seen a Mercedes S class written off for a dented boot panel recently too.

My old Mk1 golf had best part of £2k worth of repair when it was hit in the rear. even though i was told it was only worth £300.

Not good Had my Mini driven into by some myopic taxi driver last weekend, first time it`s been out of the garage since last summer and I wasn`t even in the car at the time ! The tw@t said he`d pay cash but then got funny and thought I was trying to rip him off - £250 for new Mini wing, bonnet and grille was quite reasonable I thought ... It`s now in the hands of the insurance company

I`m covered for uninsured losses with solicitors etc etc so should be ok, just hope they don`t write it off. The bloke said he hadn`t had a crash in 41 years of driving - that made me feel so much better

The bloke said he hadn`t had a crash in 41 years of driving - that made me feel so much better The dumb bint in the BMW said exactly the same "I've been driving 20 years and I've never had a crash" to which I replied "Well today's not your lucky day is it..." all she kept saying was "I'm so sorry, I thought you'd gone, I'm so sorry" does that count as admission of guilt?

Yes it does (this is why insurers tell drivers never to apologise!), but do you have any witnesses - both to the accident & her admission of fault?
Hope you manage to sort it all out with the minimum of haslle, and also get what the car is actually worth, not what the insurers say it's worth....
