My boss has just got one as the new company car, and it's actually a really good car. Now they may have been priced highly, but I have to say, I think it may of been a fair price for the level of what you get. I now fail to comprehend how a company capable of producing such a fine fine car (and I'm saying that fresh after a quick country road thrash with the boss in the passenger seat!), managed to produce such heaps (such as the Rover 200 based mess!) which made them go under. The Rover 820 Vittese and 827's were also fine cars, let down by the lack of tourer option and poor build, the 75 is lightyears ahead of this! The rover 620 Ti was also a fine fine car. I'm actually pretty sad that MG Rover are no more now, I've always like the Maestro/Montego Turbo's and fast rovers, even contemplated buying an 820 Vittese Twin or a Rover 620Ti a fair few times.. Ok, you can abuse me now for liking an old mans car

I think the 75 was a totally different car to anything else in the Rover range - I think I'm right in saying it was the only totally new car that was developed and produced with BMW at the helm. The other cars were just re-hashed ageing cars that got steadily left behind by their competitiors. If the 75 is the high point, the Streetwise has to be the low - what were they thinking?! That said, the likes of us in years to come will be enthusing over the Streetwise and CityRover I reckon - sh!ite cars forgotten in history, and given a retro-make over ;D
But I digress - yeah the ZT-T is stupendous. I think the styling is overdone personally, but you can't beat the performance! It seems like Rover just thought "We're going under, boys. F*ck it, let's build us some ludicrously fast cars!"

I got to drive a 1.8T ZT years ago, only around a yard mind, but it was a fantastic piece of kit, quick flex of the right foot and BANG! someone's kicked you square in the spine.
It's a shame MG Rover went under, but at least they produced these before they did.

That doesn't surprise me! ;D I saw something on Men and Motors a while ago about the MG SVR X-Power - that thing looked unbelievable! The 75 in its normal guise is a bit fuddy-duddy looking IMO, but it's a quality car. What's the situation with MG now? Are they planning to resurrect the brand?

If I were ever in the market for a modern car one of the rear wheel drive V8 engined MG saloons would definitely be on my shortlist. I think in a few years most people will have forgotten they existed and it would be lovely having something British designed and engineered to battle with all the Audi, Bm's etc. I think the fact that Peter Stevens is at least half hot rodder helped the direction the company went in in its later years

The Rover 75 was designed before BMW got involved but was an All-Rover design. BMW were the ones who forced it into being a FWD as it was originally prototyped as a RWD. Thats why it was so easy for them to switch to RWD for the V8 models.
The Rover 75 was actually given more awards and stuff in Germany than any other imported car. It was rated as better than a BMW by their press. Yet in the UK you have top gear slagging it off just because its a Rover.
I want an MG ZT-260, thats the V8 version. Depreciation is awesome on them I think I might be able to justify buying one in a couple of years at this rate.

Yeah if I had one i'd try to retro-fit an early style front bumper and grill, that one looks rubbish. Great car though.

Unusually for me I prefer the MG version, and with the ZT you get harder suspension and some other details. I'd probably chrome the grille and a few other touchps of my own though. Also I believe that Trphy Blue and LeMans Green were only available on the MG version and they are my 2 fave colours for the 75 bodystyle

There was definately plans for a Riley concept car around that time, which I know got as far as a styling buck (sadly since broken-up) as a friend of mine has seen pics of it. However, the Riley version of the 75 was reputedly going to be a 2 door coupe version (according to Auto Express) but AFAIK there were no official photos released.

Its a shame that the planned ZT 385 (or whatever the exact number was) never reached production, it would have been a monster!

If the two door "Riley" coupe is what I think it is I've seen a finished prototype. It was in a burnt orange kind of colour and was a beautifuul car, but for sure it had Rover badges on it. Be I can't find any photos of it now though. It wasn't in the MG Rover auction either....
Because of the way car companys write off the taxes against concept car development they hit the books at being worth like £5million and then they have to scrap them or they get hit for a huge tax bill.
