Hello people. I recently joined the site via a post from Hotwire on the Practical Classics website forum. I'm just wondering if there are any other middle aged old gits on here? Ive got to say that I'm deeply impressed with the workmanship on some of the cars here, top quality! This site has really reawakened my thirst for getting my hands dirty and therefore i shall be looking out for a suitable project to get stuck into. Its been a very long time since ive done any mods on cars but the enthusiasm and knowledge on here has really fired me up. I read a thread about the Ford Sierra and had to laugh at some of the comments like " my dad used to have one" curse word, that made me feel very old!!!!!!!! All the best!

Well that all depends on what you call middle aged...if I were going to kick the bucket at 80 then I guess I could qualify then

Welcome aboard Rob. I think I'm probably one of the older people here, will be 40 this summer. I'm constantly in awe at the standard of work, thought and enthusiasm that the "young 'uns" show on here.
Don't worry, life as it is lived will knock it out of them before too long and they'll all be off buying mid sized mpv's for shopping trips to ikea from the new housing estate.
NOT!!
ps, talking of grumpy have you met rev9 yet. Not so much grumpy as a primed fuel/air explosive bomb! :-)

No Sierras in my family! Oh, wait a minute, I'm driving round in one at the moment. curse word! Ah, but it's a late saphire so doesn't really count. Only mk1's are proper Sierras and I'm not even a Sierra fan! My dad had a fantastic Rover SD1 2600SE. I loved that car!

Hi Rob & welcome! Be warned - this place is like Hotel California! ;D Haha! I'm not -very- old either, but I am most certainly grumpy. Can I join in 'old gits corner'? I have ample supplies of real ale? Sounds good to me - proper beer too!! ;D Don't worry, life as it is lived will knock it out of them before too long and they'll all be off buying mid sized mpv's for shopping trips to ikea from the new housing estate. NOT! My Amazon is great for Ikea trips - on those rare occasions that everything doesn't fit in the boot, the drop-down tailgate (complete with hinging number plate to keep the Feds happy) is very useful ;D

Many thanks for the replies, ive been made to feel very welcome! Yes I'm in sunny Mallorca, where they drive like maniacs and kill themselves with alarming regularity and a car is not a car without a dent or ten. To give you an idea of the kind of cars i go for, while all my mates were getting Escorts and Cortina MK2 and 3s i was handing over 250quid for my first car, a Hillman Hunter GT, just to be different................. I reckon ive owned 40 odd cars in my time ranging from Hillman Avengers to Vauxhall Chevettes,Cortina 2000Es to Saab 99s. Ive owned 3 Sierras and, apart from rot, all were great cars. As i got older the cars got newer and more expensive but, you know what, the huge buzz i used to get going searching for my next car with a couple of hundred quid in my pocket was way better than spending shed loads on the latest souless repmobile. We live and learn............. I'm quite chuffed to have recieved so many replies, thank you for taking the trouble!

Hey Rob,.. you're a lucky lucky man to be in the Baelarics! Wish I was there... Formentera would be fine for me. I think they average is is around the late 20's/early 30's ... but we do have a wide range of people on here from those barely in their teens to those drawing a pension All that matters is an enthusiasm for cars

robmajorca in da house: I'm just wondering if there are any other middle aged old gits on here?
I guess I'm one of the "old boyz" here (50 next year) but I don't see myself as and "old git" nor a "grumpy old man" I just love my life and since turning 40 it's just getting better and better, not since I was 15-18 have I had soo much fun and felt soo alive, it's all in your mind.....
DP says: You are only as old as you feel......
Ps. Welcome to the "nut house". Ds.....
hotwire in da house: Formentera would be fine for me
Here we go again, Lived in San Francisco, Formentera, a town of some 200 inhabitans (back in 78), 90% Hippies and 100% stoned. Hung out on the nude beaches with ladies I could only dream of today and downed gallons of Hierbas during my 6 months there.....
DP says: Now I feel like an "Old Git".....

Hi Rob, It's great here, no ageism! I'm pushing DPs magic 'life begins at 40' number and it's starting to come true. The kids are getting bigger, my son is almost ready to lift a spanner and be useful! Are there any restrictions as to what you can do out there modifications wise?
