Got to play with one of these this morning: ...and it got me thinking ;D It has a 1500cc flat 6 which is a cool motor, bucket loads of torque but not much hp, 5 speed box, shaft drive with reverse. It revs only to about 6000rpm, but has that quick flip up the revs like a normal bike engine. Smoooooth as, too Anyway the engine is about 12-15" long and say 18-20" wide, so it's not massive and it would be right at the bottom of an engine bay. Above it would be the perfect space for a blower or turbo and it's injected as standard. You get a sequential box like on bikes except you get a reverse gear thrown in as a bonus! It would make a cool change to all the 'busa engines in cars, maybe out back for a Beetle or an Imp

I like your thinking! WOnder what kind of performance figures you can get out of them? Mmmmmm....turbocharged flat siiiiixxx...... It's pretty lazy as standard... (Edit: looks like we killed someone's bandwidth lol, Max HP: 82.3 hp @ 5300 RPM, Max Torque: 92.4 ft/lb @ 4400 RPM) ...but since it's a Honda engine no doubt it's right at the bottom of it's potential. There's hardly any flywheel on there and it sounds great as is. I reckon with a slight reroute of the manifold pipes you could make it sound like either a Porsche boxer or a Scoob flat-4. A turbo would be great though, put a cover over the engine and have it up on the end of a stalk. "Where's the engine sonny?" "Oh, that's all there is officer..." lol

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

If I only had the cash, around 30.000€ and this beaute would be mine...... The Honda NXR 1800 Rune was built on the Gold Wing in the Gold Wing factory in the US, it was a limited edition and a Aprilia dealer friend has this (one of 4 in Sweden) sitting for sale, he calls every now and then and ask if he should find financing for me on it, but this is a cash only bike. I have driven Honda's demo and it's a Cadillac on 2 wheels, I just love it!!!! If I could afford it I would fit Air Ride and load it up with neon and just go low & slooooow..... DP says: The Gold Wing is not a bike it's a piece of furniture.....

Am I wrong in thinking that the goldwing uses the starter motor as it's reverse? would probably struggle with the weight of a car.

I have had this thought too.
A mate has had a few Goldies. Certainly would make an interesting motor for a light car. IIRC they are shaft drive too...
BMW Rotary?
