I think the problem people have with it is that it isn't as groundbreaking as the hype makes out. I still think its an awesome car (apart from the skirts) but there's nothing "new" on it. Fergus? has got the same engine in his Manta and it didn't take him 3 years to wire it up.

Whats wrong with the skirts, they are OEM M3 by the looks of it. But can see the point about it not being ground breaking, but I wasnt aware of any hype, don't know who the guy is - don't care for that matter. Just think it's nice to see something other than a e36 on BBS's. You cant be that ground breaking these day's as it's pretty much been done, the odd one out there that is, generally has a big ghey bodykit on it that just looks wrong. There must be hundreds of mk3 golfs out there on merc rims, thats been done to death. BUT I still think they looks sweet

Matt probably my biggest problem with it... still a nice car, for a bimmer... but thats it... hardly groundbreaking.... i didnt like the e28 either, but dare i say it... i prefered the e28... in its first/second guise......

Fergus? has got the same engine in his Manta and it didn't take him 3 years to wire it up. Fergal McGovern & it rocks.. IMO without the Mike B hype machine we'd all be saying 'nice car' (except the skirts, blah..) If we ignore the marketing and glitzy packaging and just consider the car for a moment then surely taking a boggo dullard, fitting a better engine, giving it a slam & adding rim is exactly what we do?!AND there's no rust, no tat-rack, no nun-killing chopped springs, no mig-spec diff, none of the usual stuff for the haters to hate. WHAT IS THERE TO HATE?Don't like 3-series BMW's? Fair enough. Don't like big rims? Fair enough. It's subjective. I don't really like Capri's but I've still spent hundreds of hours helping my Bro with his over the years and would still rather have one than a 'modern' eurobox. It also doesn't mean I hate it! My point is, this thread is pointless. Mike B has given a car a treatment not dissimilar to what many of us do to ours. The only difference is he has a lot more resources to do it with and everything he does is massively hyped.

Oh to clarify the only bit I don't like (the skirts) is because they're far lower than the bumpers. If it had a front splitter to balance it out they'd look ok. I don't like them on standard M3's so its not just this car.

I really dig this car.... I'm a big fan of the E36 shape - it has that ability to look like its travelling at 100mph when standing still.... Mike's car emphisises the standard car's sharp styling with simple but effective (but often not easy to acheive) mods - namely wheels & suspension. Aside from the Mike Burroughs discussions - the E36 BMW has for a while now suffered an image problem... inherited from its older brother the E30... where as the E30 has now shaken off its dodgy image (along with other 80s/90s cars like Novas & R5 turbos etc) The poor old E36 is still shunned... so its refreshing to see it get 'the treament' Heres another E36 I saw at Worthersee this year... a show I know is on a lot of RRers 'must go to' list, but is all about 'this kind' of posing

I tried to get an E36 touring a few months ago, getting E36s looking right is simple stuff. Coilovers are cheap and off the shelf and then you just need a nice set of 5 series alloys with decent offset and you have a winner! Here's one of my favourites I've posted before, Misky's 323i. Shame I don't have better pics...

Aww... I missed the big argument Just think, I've been out there all day building cars when I could have been here. Can we have it so MB only releases new cars in the winter, when the weather is curse word so we can all have a winge and a girly rant cos there isn't anything better to do? PS, I only posted at all cos I bust a gut laughing. Its priceless, really. In fact you should weigh this thread in for scrap. I hear Irony is about £200 a tonne at the mo. Mongo say, Scary complicated man. Mongo say, Scary say me wussy. Mongo say, Mongo feel bad about Mongo. Mongo say, Mongo self-esteem bent. Mongo say, Mongo build cars all day AND was here at same time. So Mongo ask, now Scary have self-esteem bent? ;D Mongo ask Scary, what tool Mongo use to un-bend hurt self-esteem? Mongo say, Scary has all rest of tools in box. Well I see your point but this particular car is really a culmination of the Stanceworks ethic and the brand ethos that they try to encapsulate in evrything that - Never mind that sh*t, HERE COMES MONGO!

this is really an interesting/amusing thread... as other people mentioned, the E36 is nice, but not groundbreaking. We have lots of them driving around the local Doner shops, lowered on Keskin wheels with chinese budget tyres, windows open and mujaheddin music coming out of the speakers...
I think the thing that irritates a lot of people is the hype built around his cars/his person. He seems to be a good photographer and has taste , but it is not "so" very special. I liked the E28 before it was fubared, and hated his vid at the end when "a friend is leaving " ; he killed it, so "leaving" is probably the wrong term. I don't know him personally, but he has great skills to polarize with his car/styling/website/etc. And he has received a lot of attention with his previous projects...
I am sure, the E36 will become a legend, too, as soon as it will be wrapped around a lamp post , become rusty and fall apart. There wil be another friend leaving....
as i mentioned before, a lot of legends have become legends after they died...

I quite like it the sound of then engine and the fact it's in an E36 is cool, even the side skirts are okay. Obviously there is a lot of M3 side skirt hate, from a few years ago when they were attached to any and ever Max Power feature car (hang me now!) That said thou........ Yes it's a bit pretentious, and it's over hyped. But at the end of the day if you don't like it, does it really effect you? Who cares if it's a bit "life style" whatever that means! Did I mention I like three spokes and venoms? Secs......

Fair play I say, He's put some effort into the car and does good pics. I@m sure he's happy with it and i'm sure people can appreciate that even small things can be a huge effort at times! I like the fact the merc wheels are 'right' too. However... I've never been a BMW fan and unlike 1 or 2 other beemers that i've seen on this forum this has not done anything to convince me my dislike should change. Next!

Well for what it's worth I think that bm is superb. The E36 is imo one of the nicest shaped cars around, & this guy, who ever he is, has made it even better. All the haters must have poo in their eyes

here, have a couple of really hot E36s not by mike burroughs- spotted at hellaflush venice beach meet. I do like the corvette wheels on this, and they are the right PCD photo by mike burroughs, car isn't. where's racer's old e36 coupe? as that was pretty damn low! endgame- dropped E36 looks good, whoever's it is. It ain't rocket science, but simple can also be cool

To me, it just looks like a council-estate-homie's cruiser. Yeah, he might have spent some dollar mechanically, but it looks a bit, erm, 'drug dealer-esque'. Lol, it's just occurred to me whilst looking for pictures of my favourite E36 ever, that it was genuinely a drug dealer's BMW: 1992 BTCC-winning 318is of Time Harvery. Team principal Vic Lee was sent to prison twice for drug smuggling (Although it doesn't look as good as the following season's Schnitzer 320s, but it's the car that got me interested in motorsport...)

I love how this thread made it to 5 pages. Wonder how many it would have got to if the builder had remained anonymous.
When you dispense with all the hype, he's a skinny ginger white boy, and he builds 'stanced' cars, takes nice pictures of them and posts them on the internet. He's just like me and you!
Personally I like it. It's not perfect, but I can definitely appreciate the effort that's gone into it. Plus if the noise doesn't stir your soul, then you're dead inside.
