Not really. Just doing what you do without a care for who's taking notice is 'punk' As soon as you are aware of your effect you become affected yourself, your purity gets diluted, you become 'compromised' - whether you like it or not. Self-promotion purely for adulation is contrived and disgusting. I'm guessing Mike would be the sort of person that would constantly post threads with polls asking what people thought he should do to his car?? Like people on here do some times? Are they disgusting to you?

Bl**dy 'ell, this thread's going nowhere, isn't it Stop with all the negativity! Not everyone's going to like every car, but that doesn't matter. I'd rather see a thread with all points of view welcomed than loads of threads with a picture of one car, then just one or two positive comments. A bit of healthy debate is good for the imagination and your creative/inventive side, etc. There's too many threads like this appearing recently; it's almost like if you don't think what was originally posted is 100% correct, then you're wrong and/or your opinion is not welcome - it's all going a bit 'old-skool NSRA' for me If we all liked the same things, then life would be very boring... Lighten up and enjoy it - it's a hobby! Dale

I'm actually finding this thread quite interesting! I don't think there has been that much negativity, and I'm intreagued as to why Mike Burroughs cars (or brand...) generate such strong feelings. For instance, Chip Foose is a huge brand - TV Shows, own-brand goods... the lot. Yet a Foose car posted on RR would be met by universal praise. Why is this? Is Mike Burroughs selling something which people feel that they could produce themselves fairly easily, whereas Foose builds cars which are seen as hard to create? The Hot Rod scene is full of brands, full of massive budget builds, full of glossy presentations and media-managed productions and enough polished billet to sink a battleship, yet nobody bats an eyelid at this and it isn't really singled out for any criticism. People tend to accept the cars regardless of who built them, how much money was spent, or whether or not it's presented in a flashy video. On the other hand, people like Mike Burroughs, Hoodride and the larger VW scene get frequent flak for doing similar things in terms of raising any sort of profile or creating a marketable image. Very interesting.

Not everything Chip Foose does is good. He does lovely cars, and then ruins them with big shiny bling wheels

Now imagine the car in the picture below. Same location, but without the makeup: Otherwise, just another lowered E36 with some Merc rims on. Yawn. And the worst thing is, It's not even got faux controversy to save it. Wonder if Lonnie's Western Room is as good as the reviews say? That's the real issue right there.

Aww... I missed the big argument Just think, I've been out there all day building cars when I could have been here. Can we have it so MB only releases new cars in the winter, when the weather is curse word so we can all have a winge and a girly rant cos there isn't anything better to do? PS, I only posted at all cos I bust a gut laughing. Its priceless, really. In fact you should weigh this thread in for scrap. I hear Irony is about £200 a tonne at the mo.

In getting the back end of this thread, I'll put out my opinions quickly.
+ engine bay looks a treat - don't like the sea of grey + stance is nice (esp as "natural") - wierd bumper mounts look silly in front bumper (I would either leave the plate on or take the mounts off) + wheels make proper sence and car looks much better when in motion.

Are they disgusting to you? No. they're not. Because I do it myself. But it's not for adulation or to make sure I do the 'cool' thing. Moreoften or not people want to check (myself included) that their technique/'eye'/train of thought/proportion/inexperience isn't gonna make a hash-up. You may notice that probably around 7/8 polls, people just end up doing what they wanted to originally anyway, regardless of public opinion (sound familiar?) Anyways, I'm done with this thread. Its a boring car by a guy who's just another poser. There's plenty of them down on the seafront driving around and around listening to happy hardcore.

Surely anyone who builds a car that looks good is a poser? Or else why draw attention to yourself by making a car different to how it was.
To be individual? Which means to stand out, which is to be noticed......
We're all a little bit poserish. Posting pictures ofyour ride on the internet is poserish. Expressing your opinion is egotistical?
Who cares!? We enjoy cars whether it be bling billet rods or rat look Bimmers with "stance".

On the other hand, people like Mike Burroughs, Hoodride and the larger VW scene get frequent flak for doing similar things in terms of raising any sort of profile or creating a marketable image. Very interesting. I generally think it is because people resent that he has managed to become 'known' on the internet for a handful of cars, and those same people think they could or should have the same recognition,... usually they've never built anything of note, but desire the attention. Then there are those that just don't like the things they don't like and think that everyone should know about their opinion. Also I call curse word thread bingo on this thread, we have a full house of negative nancies quimming about something without actually doing something positive for the forum. Luckily we have a bunch of other interesting threads to talk about....

Well I still like it, ive got a E36 and would love it to look like that. Didnt like the last one he did, think the "rust a nice car" is a stupid idea. If this was a VW everyone would be kissing it's a$$.
