personally I don't mind the newer gone in 60seconds... the only bit I don't like is the LOW-RI-DA bit.... where he has to get into "the mood" ... thats properlly cringeworthy... And the bit at the end where Vinnie Jones speaks. I'm fairly sure what he says is meant to be profound... It's not. It's like a rubbish Silent Bob.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Ah takes me back a few years reading this thread! Smiling, rembering all the car cahse scenes! My all time favourite car film is the moody original Gone in 60 seconds!! That poor mustang gets the s*IT ragged out of it and it still makes it through a car wash!!! Best advertising for Ford EVER! I hate it when cars in movies get smashed then 3 seconds later the damage is mysteriously gone!! Was watching commando with Mr Arnie the other day (yeah i know) and a certain yellow 911 gets the chips away treatment mid chase!!! LOL
GOT 1 everyone has missed I think - GRAND THEFT AUTO with RON HOWARD in!! Good cars, pooh acting and even worse story line!!!!

Its a film i've been recommended to see called THX 1138. It was George Lucas's first film before American Graffiti in 1971. It features a chase seen with a Lola T70 mkIII with a fake turbine on the back being chased by a Yamaha TA125 race replica bikes through a tunnel. We're restoring a Lola T70 mkIII B at work which was why i have to get a copy!

yeah it appears to be a running joke in lucas's and some other films from what i've read. The number pops up in star wars several times.

Is it hooper or Gator when Burt Reynolds drives the Citroen SM into the river??? I think that was Mean Machine (former pro football player goes off the rails and ends up in the clink where he leads the cons to victory against the guards). Subsequently remade here with Vinnie Jones.

Once upon a time in the Midlands.
Not really a car film but Ricky Tomlinson drives a majorly cheesy American station wagon and Rhys Ifans has a modified XR4i.

There's a film I remember watching which features a kid/student who builds a modified (in a very 70s way) Corvette that gets stolen and he sets off to track it down, coming across a similarly modified 240Z in the process.
Can't dredge the name from my addled brain though.

Geek fact, listen carefully to the radio in the Lola as he's about to pull away.... "I think we hit a Wookie back there on the expressway" ...THX is full of Lucas references, one of the cars in American Graffiti has the license plate THX1138. I watched Monte Carlo or Bust yesterday, home from work early and it was the afternoon film ;D
