Most of us don't like to see good/rare/solid cars dying at the hands of banger racers.
We also might want a lot of the obsolete trim and parts that the banger guys chuck away, right?
The main forum these guys use is www.ovalbangerchat.co.uk. Join up the forum and find out what is being stripped, put WANTEDS up for bits or simply help save some cars.
You'd be surprised how solid a lot of the cars are they race. For example, there's a solid 1967 Lincoln Continental 2-door about to be sold for racing!
RR moderators, perhaps we could make this a sticky? Just want to help preserve existing cars and also save a few classics from the clutches of banger racing. I'm not saying all banger racers are bad people, but I have seen my fair share of good solid cars being destroyed unnecessarily.

I did try sign up for Ovalbangerchat to try locate some parts and stuff once but it seemed like a bit of a closed club entry if you see what I mean, like all accounts have to be individually approved or something. I don't think I got in. You can't even view the for sale ads without being a member.
If its any better now LMK 'cos I would join to buy bits and the like.

^^^WHS, I have previously tried to join that lot but got no where, presumably cos my application was not wearing a hi-viz and rigger boots, and had no tattoos.

I wanted some Mk2 Granada greasy bits, must be 100s of them on there LOL. Struck me as the ideal place. But no entry.
Oh, whats the story with the Lincoln? I followed up a couple of rare yanks being bangered before and they turned out to be on Compulsory Destruction Orders and as such could never be used on the road again anyway.

But no entry. there's literaly hundreds of grannys in and around essex in racers yards, I know of about 50 in 2 yards belong to the same bloke ;D I often pop in and have a browse Nowdays over 50% are on comp destruction notices, a bit naughty but it saves racing savable ones and IMHO well over 50% of racers are also well into classics and drive em

I've been on OBC for ages.. in fact I created a dialogue with them over some "issues" we had ages ago. Found some good people on there. Guess it can be like any community a bit difficult to get into at first.
I'm sure I'm not the most popular person on there, but I'm sure there are some excellent people on there that will help out where they can. Just need to find the right ones.

How do you get to register? I can't even get that far let alone "getting into the community".

I've been on there for a while. The people on there don't really care for 'pm's' or emailing, if you want something, you really have to pester them, usually in a month they come back and it's already been crushed or bashed.

I don't wish to get involed in another ani banger/classic car debate but I'm into both in fact ive been into bangers all my life and I'm a member of Ovalcrap. The days of people racing old mot fauilers has long past there are certain cars for certain meetings such as Granards and A60,s for the classic meets. There are a lot of rare cars getting raced for some the rarer the better as they will get a good few photos in mags and on the net but what I'm trying to say is we/you could go out and find and buy these cars before the others get them. I understand a mk9 jag estate that was on e-bay has been sold to a racer for a four figure sum and rumors of £1000 for A60s. About 18 mounths ago i got told of a racer in London who had got hold of a A60 estate i got hold of his number and went to look at it, had it been a saloon id of wished him a good night in it. I bought it off him and its now on the road.

I have nothing against 99% of racers... but, they do seem to have a 'nose' for finding cars and keeping in with them can help if they find something interesting. Its all about give & take... through a few race-worthy ones their way & you're more likely to get something back your way.
