I went all the way from Southampton to Liverpool to collect the Mot'd!! Datsun 280c to use on the road. Unfortunately when I arrived it was a little mis-described and was very rusty. By the way, it was actually advertised on Retro Rides for a few weeks but nobody wanted it!! It is now a source of spares for John's other 330 as spare parts are getting almost impossible to find for them. Unfortunately due to this he wont sell any spares from this car as he may need siad item later on. Picture of his Baby and yes, John is a Banger Racer:

No, he lives in Southampton but yes it is Danny's old one. Hmmm, must be getting confused. Still, lovely 330. Danny always paints his cars blue for some reason LOL

Wilko said all the right things to me:
For a Rolls Royce Shadow yes, with all of that and more made back on the parts...
Keeping these tales of £1000+ cars in perspective, this year I have raced a Volvo Amazon estate (£30 spares car from a professional restorer, hanging) & a Marina Coupe (free, rotten, broken for the 1800TC engine by somebody else), after I raced it, I sold the front hubs, discs and calipers and brake servo to a local bloke restoring a moggy traveller for £20 - I know they go for up to £100 on e-gay, but I figured it cost me nothing so I'd just take a drink out of it - how many of the self righteous classic car savers would do the same I wonder? The other cars I raced were modern ones driven into the scrappies or collected for scrap.
Tomorrow I collect an MG Magnette from a bloke who has broken it for spares - it has a missing wing, no trim, engine, gearbox, bonnet or boot - I will piece it back together and race it because I absolutely love Farinas & I will help the bloke as much as I can with bits for the very cool sounding one he is doing up (B lump, estate springs etc...) No doubt somebody who see's the finished article on the track will see it as a "waste" and brand me as a mindless vandal...
The bloke I spanner for when I'm not racing myself is a regular racer, this season he's raced a phase 1 Standard Vanguard (stripped of spares & trim, half the engine missing, £200 from e-bay), an A40 Cambridge (picked up for scrap by another driver, stripped of trim, rotten & siezed lump), 2 Volvo 240 estates (picked up for scrap), a mk2 Granada 2.8S (picked up for scrap by another driver, grotty), & a series 3 XJ12 (stripped of trim, swapped for jaguar spares with a bloke restoring a V12 coupe).
As you can see, we are like the vast majority of drivers in that we are not in the business of paying a fortune for cars. The one in the stockpile that did cost a lot was a mk2 Granada 2.8 that his dad brought off e-bay to drive about whilst his mk1 granny coupe gets a re-trim, when it was collected, it turned out the MOT was shonky and the car was hanging, so it was chucked on the racing pile. It gave up it's gearbox to keep his other mk2 on the road & the owner of a beautifully restored '85 2.8 Ghia stripped it for trim bits last weekend.
What I am trying to point out is that we already have good "give and take" relations with classic car people, banger racers are not a goldmine of spares waiting to be found, mindlessly chucking away valuable parts.
Now, "ranting" over... I actually did mean what I said about "good luck" to those hunting on ovalchat for spares. Use the wanted section, be as specific as you can about what you are after, and keep bumping your topic every couple of weeks - may take a year to pay off but you never know... Also check the "for sale" as various bits get put on there. Finally, bear in mind that a lot of drivers are members rather than posters, a mobile number on the ad often helps. The site has a fairly bad rep with a lot of drivers because it is heavily populated by teenage spectators who think they know everything.
IN ESSENCE, EVERYONE SHOULD GET FRIENDLY WITH THEIR LOCAL RACER AND OFFER TO BUY/REMOVE ALL OF THE STUFF RACERS DON'T WANT THAT RESTORERS DO WANT. MY DAD HAD A MK2 GRANNY 2.8 FOR YEARS AND KEPT IT ALIVE USING A LOCAL BANGER RACER WHO LET HIM REMOVE ELECTRIC WINDOWS AND SWITCHGEAR ETC.
BANGERING SOLID CARS IS WRONG TO ME, BUT THAT'S JUST ME. BANGERING RARE STUFF BECAUSE BANGER RACERS FIND IT FIRST - THAT IS LIFE I GUESS. I DO FEEL THAT BANGER RACERS HAVE BETTER NOSES FOR STUFF. I SPEND ALL MY LIFE SEARCHING FOR OLD CLASSICS HERE AND THERE, AND I FIND ABOUT HALF OF WHAT BANGER BOYS DO. DUNNO HOW THEY DO IT!
WANTED ADS ON OVERCHAT IS A GOOD WAY TO START RELATIONS.

Thanks Mr Impala. I really admire that approach with your last post. There are some bad cards in the banger community who ruin it for others I'm sure, just as there are unscrupulous sods in the classic car world too.
