My lovely wife and I are planning a bit of a jaunt around Europe next year, picture driving along coast roads in the South of France, or Italy.. back up through the alps... on to Amsterdam for Queens Day (which is also my Birthday ). Now we'll be doing this in something suitable chic.. and old. Or if we don't manage to sort that out, my Datsun. Currently the favoured options from my wife are : Porsche 912 Mercedes Benz 220 SL Porsche 356* Or Volvo P1800 Or P1800ES There have got to be more nice chic 60's and early 70's cars out there that would look awesome in a photo with San Tropez in the background and a pretty lady standing next to it. What would you choose... Remember Chic! is the watch word. *She'll accept a replica... me,.. not so much!

Did I miss the part where you mention a budget? Don't forget the Matt Monro eight track.

I'd pick an SLC or a W114 coupe over an SL for touring, more room for luggage and both are available with aircon.
|
|
Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Is a DS just quirky or chic? Plently of room for luggage though.

Merc SL Pergoda - Awesome car, old man had one and it was a great cruiser - would be perfect for a Euro run.

Sounds like a great trip! I was going to say a Lancia Flaminia or Alfa GT, but over 1000's of miles....maybe not. I would go for either - BMW 3.0 CSi Or fly the Union Jack and go for something very cool and rare, a Gordon keeble -

We toured Europe in a Volvo 240 last year - it's sort of chic, in a way. (Well, at least you know it won't break down...)

Surely has to be something convertible for the wind in your hair and scarfs in the wind. But without the naaasty wheels and kitsch spoiler. Has to be one of the late shapes as well, like 94 or 95 as the ones before were a bit BL and not enough Jaguar IMHO.

Chic European tour - It has to be a 2-seater convertible of some kind. Big sunglasses and headscarf for the lady. And for the gentleman, driving gloves and a pair of JP Todds for the period win. ;D Mercedes Pagoda is a nice choice, or how about... Peugeot 504 V6 Cabriolet Alfa Romeo Duetto Spyder

Before I get my coat, if it were me I'd go for the big Citroen. Is an SM beyond your budget?
