But I find myself wanting "Adaptive Cruise Control"
I think its a pretty sure bet my next daily will have it.
Does anyone else find they are drawn to features and functions on moderns which they would either adapt to their retro or seek out as a feature in their next daily?
I'm more interested in the retro-fit (excuse the pun) although I doubt I'd bother try it with the radar shizzle.
I've only had the Lexus a few months and am already wondering how cars got on without touch screen controls.
I think my retrofit #1 is audio and #2 want, although never fitted one is AC.

I was talking to VIP about this at the RR@The Ace event. I really want to lux up a retro car. Full air con, electric everything.. those awesome Merc doors you can't slam but they close themselves. All those goodies.
I wonder what is home retro fitable. I reckon aircon can't be too hard. Electric adjustable/heated seats must be possible?

Its still at the "no doors" stage, but if I can figure out where to find small enough aircon components for low dollar, my mini will be chilled. Car Builder Solutions do a very compact all-in-one heaterbox and air con unit to go under a dash that woud fit a treat in the mini. Just needs a scrapyard pump and front rad/condenser from something modern-ish. Its quite dear though. Cruise control is fantastic on big, powerfull cars, but I'm not sure how will it would suit a smaller car. Retro-fitting it should be easy enough, if so desired.

Get an entire car with all that stuff from a salvage auction as a donor - that way, the systems are all already integrated together. In fact, probably use the entire donor loom & as much of the running gear as possible too

Funnily enough I've got an aftermarket cruise control kit. Bought in Canada in the '70s/'80s by my uncle and never fitted. Dunno if you can still get that kind of thing nowadays, but it's for sale if anyone fancies fitting it! I'm not fussed about creature comforts - a functioning, roadworthy car is quite enough to keep me happy! ;D

Although on second thoughts, I dread to think how much extra weight all that gear adds.... No wonder those cars are all so low ;D

On my Consul there's a foot rest on the floor next to the throttle which keeps you at 30mph in top gear - great for avoiding the speeding tickets in built up areas ;D I ought to make another lower one for cruising at sixty or so... not very adaptive though!

:)I personally don't want all the modern luxuries like electric seats, doors, windows ect...for me basic as possible FTW. Frankly if you're too tired to wind a window up you really shouldn't be driving! ;D

I must admit I don't look for any luxuries in my cars. I do lots of miles in the work van which only seems to have an external temperature gauge as a luxury. You have never seen such large water temp and fuel gauges! (To take up some of the empty space in the dash!)
At the end of the day its more to go wrong!
The only modern thing I want in my car is AC, really hate being in a hot stuffy car which in summer is very common.
That said in my saab project I will probably fit some luxuries, deffo AC!

I liking PAS more than I should be at the mo, goodbye Popeye muscles! ;D And with the way my Sierra is going I might need leccy windows, but do not want if I can help it. One thing that has changed me isn't so much a mod con but it should be, its Hydrowotsit suspension, its great, Love it, going back to regular stuff seems a bit cave man! As for cruise control, I guess it has its place when its quiet, I had a play back seat driving Wickedbads Bimmer. Air con yes but only for a few days a year.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I think Saab 9000 electric front seats are just two wires for the heater and the seat moving, but they need to be pretty beefy. Aircon, cruise, and lecky window/central locking/total closure alarms are all available from kit car and hotrodder kits, and for touch screen audio, you can either do the standard double din kit, or build a car PC with radio tuner, and mould in a 7" touch screen standard vga monitor, and run a car pc either in an amprack in the boot, or build it in behind the dash, if the car is vaguelly modern pre-retro oldie that has an OBDII port, monitor engine sensors and even run auxilliary gauges on the screen like skyline does.
A couple of the IS200 guys have built car PC screens into the factory powered popup Nav unit, and run the carpc as an aux in, through a Grom adaptor that tricks the car into thinking it has a second changer, so they can switch between factory radio, and multimedia at the flick of a button and still see the nav screen while not being bothered by voice instructions if you want.

You can retro fit anything, obviously, just depends on how bad you want it The new loom in my 47 Ford came with wires for everything you can imagine already integrated... and that was a couple of hundred dollars. The thing I love about my cars is that I have something for everything, the Land Rover and beach buggy are bare bones, but my Mercedes has everything electric and more... So no, I don't think it's your age A to the K, but I do agree that sometimes, just sometimes luxury can be quite lovely

I'm a fan of keeping it simple rather than having unnecissary gadgets. However i will add extras gauges or so for peace of mind. I was saying this to my other half today while sitting in a VW showroom while her 07 Polo is getting looked over.... again All these extras aren't needed but people seem to like them if they think it will make their life easier. For example the advert on the wall saying you can now have "hands free parking" added to your new VW!

I like extremes - very small cars with nothing or fully loaded Mercs - don't really like anything in between

I had a mk5 cortina years back with cruise control, think it was made by "econocruise" it monitored ignition pulses to monitor engine speed and had a big vacuum servo type thing linked to the throttle linkage to adjust it. Worked really well but i've never seen another one.

Pah, who needs new fangled gadgets on their cars, you should all drive a car like the Toledo.....
No exterior mirrors, no hazard lights, drum brakes all round, push a button to pump the windscreen washers, no side repeaters, no head rests, no rear seat belts, no radio, no rear fog light,
and currently no synchromesh on second ;D
