A- because i'm poor B- because I still have 3 garages full of spares i've had since they were newish and I wasn't so poor C- cos I like to be able to fix em easyly and cheaply D- cos I work on moderns all day and i'm sick of em E- because I want to, because I want to F- cos i'm stuck in the 80's G- cos I like to be differant now i'm older H- cos i'm a firm believer in recycling, I pushed for recyling bins on my housing estate (and got em after 3 years fighting), i'm a traveller and I love a rumage through other people rubbish and recycling cars is way better for the enviroment (or some other plums that pacifys the green curse word who 99% of the time couldn't spot a green idea if it had "i'm a great green idea, use me and save the world" ) tattooed on it's head ;D

i notice a few people mention its cheaper but not allways, but i do agree they make you grinn like a 5year old apart from when they break and you want to leave them lol, i no iv got a 1 off when driving down the street even if it isnt a true £10,000 classic,I'm 19 and i own a 1979 and a 1980 datsun cherry n10 and those are the only 2 iv ever seen on the road, although there are a few somewhere,,an old bloke came upto me and said "they were curse word in their day,let alone now" he was driving a 1996 vauxhall vectra petrol, and worshipped the oily ground it dripped on.BUT i also have a 2000 rover 25 1.4 petrol and i do like it,even though iv had to change the engine, gearbox, ecu, alarm box and lockset lol its nice to have eleccy windows, aircon etc and blend in every so often,i wouldnt be without either and i havnt changed the rover in any way to chav it,although the white datsun has a civilised peco exhaust, slotmags and tints, soon to have a 1500 engine fitted,,i do prefer to drive the datsun any day of the week, but i also no if anybody runs into it iv got alot more trouble than if they hit a common car where pannels are available, both stand me at around the same money but if the rover got written off it wouldnt be a big loss as i could find another, but the old cherry is is my baby, aswel as that the chicks do dig it,the mrs has my otehr cherry slammed to the floors lol, adam

Because it makes me smile when I drive it.. That's why I drive them! Everytime I get in my Mk2 Golf I get a stupidly big grin on my face, even though it breaks down once in a while.

anything after about 1994 is just dull. you're looking at the wrong cars then. Plenty of good moderns. Tomorrows retros. BMW M3, M5, Corvette, Viper, Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, MG ZT V8, TVR, Audi RS6, A8 Quatro, Lexus LS or GS with DHP, most any Merc with an AMG or Brabus badge on it, misc Lotus, Westfield, Caterham, Zonda, most Dodges with the letters "SRT" on them, Clio 172, 182, Skyline, Impreza STi & WRX, Galant VR4, Mazda Cosmo, RX7 Turbo, Supra Mk4 TT, Soarer TT (and V8), etc. those are just the ones which come to mind right now. I like my Lexus as much as any "retro" car I've owned. Just seems a little "annonymous" compared to some I've had is all.

Because I'm weird
Because I have taste, style, panache, good looks.
I'd happily roll some new cars though at the moment, but smiles per mile it's got to be a Retro ;D

Early 80s J-tin strikes a nice balance for me between being obscure and interesting to look at, but well-engineered and comfortable enough that I can drive them every day.
For example, I like how there's a bit of a sense of occasion when I pull up outside the off-licence, but driving there wasn't noisy, uncomfortable or painful. I spend a fair amount of time each day having to drive to places I don't want to, so it brightens up the day being able to do it in a nice motor.
I wouldn't be able to cope with having a boring daily, though I do appreciate any competent car, I just don't see the point when I can spend the same money and get something utterly baffling.

Not sure why tbh, but always have done, despite my parent's having moderns until the arrival of the Amazon when I was 13. Never owned a younger car than the Amazon, and that's still 13 years older than me

99.9% of modern cars are not cars, but appliances like washing machines. They have no soul, are designed by computer instead of some sweaty blokes in a smoke-filled drawing office and have any slight semblance of character or foibles engineered out. They are boring, disposable, interchangeable tat, churned out to make the balance sheet read right and thats it.... a sort of mechanical accountant or lawyer. Oh, and most are either silver, grey, black or.... silver.... zzzzzzz
My definition of a retro is a car you automatically turn round and look at as you walk away from it, with (most of the time) the knowledge you've persuaded it to get THIS far today.....

I don't drive a retro my daily is a 1998 Integra Type R, but when i was using the e21 daily I loved it, the constant fiddling with carbs not being able to travel more than 20miles without gettin oily was all worth it for the thumbs up it used to get, and the warble from the twin 40's was ust music to my ears, fine it wasnt that fast but it was so much fun, hence why ive kept it tbh tho if someone gave me 700 notes for it it would leave mypossesion lol

Cos I have to... once again the Mk2 cortina falls back into "only thing that works" service (and I'm loving it..) which is kinda bizzare in a way. Everything else is fail, but a 60's dagenham built ford? Its captain bloody scarlett. Truly, truly brilliant car in a scary sort of way.(60's brakes and handling, 90's engine...) ;D I cant see me having this much fun anywhere else for zero road tax and 45mpg, can you?

this much fun anywhere else for zero road tax and 45mpg, can you? Well if I think about it actually, I can think of a couple really fun activities that involve zero taxes and don't involve any mpg at all.... EDIT: Oh, and they're so retro, they go back to Adam & Eve. That's even before Cosworth or Lancia... for those who need a timeline...

I know that one Last month out of 5 motors on the road, 1 is written off (1990 transit) one had a major diesel leak that cost £500 to fix (1991 Lucida), one puched a hole in the clutch arm (1991 disco), one failed the MOT on welding (1990 escort) and the only motor on the road? 81 cortina ;D In the 3 weeks it was the only transport it did 3 hospital runs, was used daily by the wife for her gardening company AND towed 7 cars in for scrap Don't know why i have the other 4 TBH

Partly for the love of the shapes, and the sheer enjoyment you get from working and driving them. In a retro you feel as though you're part of the car, not just playing a video game. There's nothing in this world that can compare to the satisfaction you get when you leave a modern "sports" car for dead in a 30-40 year old car that you build in your shed.
