I haven't got my car yet, but the reason I will be getting somethingg classic/retro is because I want to have something a bit more desirable, stylish, and different that isn't going to cost the earth to insure being only 17. I'm sure you can see why I'd rather have this: than this: So why is it that everyone on here is into retro cars? Thought it might be interesting to share peoples thoughts on the matter, maybe include pictures to make it moroe interesting.

Involvement in the driving experience, refusing to follow the sheep and sheer simplicity so even a muppet like me can fix things. That's what I like about retros. I keep playing with more modern stuff and it always ends in tears! And by modern, I mean less than twenty years old - apparently this isn't really modern to most people...

I buy them because they make great daily smokers/hobby car/statement of individuality e.t.c...
They are all things to all men (and women)
Primarily its a cost thing really. I couldnt bear to yog a few thousand £££'s on a modern I know is going to be next to worthless in a few years time!

i took my mate rob to santa pod for pv this year. he doesnt really like cars and doeant know anything about them. by the end of the weekend wondering about with a group of us he understood why we did it. also, he wants a chevette! (like mine) he said out of anything mine was the best car there because there wasnt another about and it is the exact shape you draw as a kid when you draw a car. so thats pretty much why i do it, you hardly ever see another about and its just nice to cruise about in summit that was built as a car, not as a safe efficient way to get to work

I like the driving experience I get. If I'm not involved in my driving I get annoyed and moderns can't offer me what I want. I'd have to get an Elise or something to equal what I've got, but then I lose the practicality of a car that I can load up with wibblepoo at the builders merchants, throw a bike on the roof rack etc.

I love the feel of the car on the road, the sense tht you and the car are one. I hate all the modern safety devices that beep to tell you tht uv put the keys in the ignition, beep to tell uv opened a door, another one for seat belts. None of tht for me
And also as previously stated to go for a drive and not see another one on the road and People stopping and stairing at it makes you feel good inside.

I find most modern cars to be dull and characterless. I like a car that doesn't isolate me from the road with power steering etc and has a style of it's own rather than blending in with everything else in the showrooms

nicer to look at cheaper to fix simpler to fix Hairnet in speaking sense shocker! lmao. from my current fleet perspective id go with one out three of those reasons, they're nice to look at, but certainly not simple or cheap to fix. however, on the whole older stuff is exactly what hairnet says.

As everyone else said really. The necessity of having to buy a cheaper car because I have no intention of buying anything on credit that will be worth curse word all in three years. I don't have enough money to buy a new car outright. So it's got to be older, and if it's going to be old, and you've got a choice of a 90s hatchback and an early 70s saloon, then you're going to pick the cool one... It's not that simple, but that was the thought process for the last car I bought. As it is I've just gone and bought what I considered to be a 'modern'. Then realised that it's actually nearly 20 years old.. I'llcall an early MX5 an 'old retro inspired modern car' until I feel the need to classify it anywhere else
