Lazt nyte aye moztly spent addin' less wate. Whatdya reckon? Should be worth a few nag power! Doubt the cornering would be up to much though!! It is now time to hit the fecker with power tools!!! I also spent a fair bit of the latter part of the night trying to figure out how it was put together originally. Does anyone have any pictures of good panels? Not least the inside of the 'A' panel which seems to be pretty much non existent. Gonna be fun cutting this lot out. Sorry, I know its like looking at the same pics over and over, but it's all I've got to look forward to at the moment!!

Really glad you decided to rebuild this car, good on you! It doesn't look all that bad really now that you've stripped out the engine bay, i'm sure if you concentrate on one section at a time and don't let the job overwhelm you you'll have it ship shape in no time

Admittedly I do have another less rotten shell on stand-by in case this one gets too much for me. I reckon I'll have it anyway TBH for the next project.
Street, if I get half the results you have mate, I'll be a very happy man!!

Do it properly then thrash the tits off it. What he said. Right: 1mm cutting discs, check Wire brush attachment on the grinder, check Flap discs, check Swearing and skint / burnt / almost served fingers, check Kettle, check.

here's a question................. Q:- What happens when you put a very rotten Monza, some power tools, a very large hammer and cold chisel, six cans of 'Wifebeater' and some nugget who thinks that nothing's irrepairable in a garage on a Friday night? A:- This................. I think I'm gonna run out of cutting disks soon!!!

Great stuff! Good to see you getting stuck in - I'm doing exactly the same thing at the moment! Just a thought: are inner wings available new? I know you'd still have the A-pillar to do but it might save you some grief. That said, I'm having to repair my inner wings as there are none available. Keep it up!

I'm using a forum thread I know of elsewhere as guidance, but I have some ideas of my own with regards to how to make it stronger and more durable. What I want to know is, how might I go about finding out what condition the insides of the chassis is in, and if it's ok how might I go about keeping it that way?

Do you mean inside the box sections and stuff like that? I only ever prod the steel on the outside... if it feels alright then that's good enough for me! ;D You can fill the box sections with WaxOyl, although it's a fire hazard if you ever need to do any welding in that area at a later date... but then if it's WaxOyl'd it shouldn't rust... ;D ;D

Absolutely do not believe it was only 6 cans...... This is 24 cans worth of bravery.
Good luck, hope you find a decent donor.... may just help.

Here's some inspiration for you.... Not my own work but my Monza as it is at the moment having a couple of quid spent on it. So you know it makes sense Rod there won't be many solid Monzas left by the time we have finished with ours

LOL - several reasons Sunroofs are std on UK monzas The drain tubes are in the sills and rear valances The scuttle panel design is a bit daft and the drains block up and rot out real quick The turrets are spot welded and water gets between the two parts leading to swelling and separation the trailing arm spring seats are tack welded in three places and not welded all round The sound deadening under the carpets is foam backed and any leaks are a long time before they are revealed The salt applied to the UK roads is a nightmare for old cars A lot of cars have been "bodged" to get thro MOT's plates on plates is never good - rust needs to be removed not covered Bless em

I spy with my little eye GM6 workmanship So you know it makes sense Rod there won't be many solid Monzas left by the time we have finished with ours There aren't many now ;D Bottom line is whatever you do with a Monza they are a crackin car and a whole heap of fun so the more people that save the odd one here or there the better I might not win to many friends in the concours clique with mine but it's fighting it's corner ;D

Well, I'm gonna stick with it till it beats the seven colours of curse word out of me. I'm going to try to fix it. It'll mean a fair bit of deviation from 'factory spec', but I reckon I can make it better. (Cue the six million dollar man music!!) What's the worst that can happen huh!?!?!? (BTW, at the time of writing, I've never actually driven a Monza!! How qabout them apples!!)

PS I'd get that shell off Sooty rides again!!! I have two options. I'm inclined to take both of them providing I can keep them out of view. Trouble is with the one you're talking about is that it's a long way away and would mean another round trip with the trailer. (Wonder if he could have it ready by April?). 'tis a good shell.

I'd be inclined to take the earlier car - if and it will probably never happen that the tossers in charge extend the "classic car tax" consessions it might scrape in one day ;D At least the sills will be solid as they've never been covered with plastic trims
