Hi, I'm new around here but frequent many other internet car forums as Macaroni. This is my Retro ride, a 1982 Matra Murena 2.2. I wanted one for ages and last year I got some money together and sought one out. It was the only one I saw as they aren't that common and it is great! It had some teething problems as it had only covered 6000miles in the last 10 years and some niggling little things went wrong. It is now all sorted and drives great and attracts attention (the right sort!) wherever it goes. Hope y'all like it! Cheers, Macaroni

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Thanks for your replies. It is a 3 seater, but not central, you're thinking of a Mclaren F1! They were all LHD. It was the first fully galvanised chassis and is thus pretty rust-proof and is clothed in a very high quality GRP body. It uses a mid-mounted Peugeot 505 engine, to which mine has been fitted twin Dellorto 45s and a high lift cam. It has Citroen CX gearbox and Talbot Alpine suspension. The galvanised body was in response to the earlier Bagheera which had no rustproofing and dissolved fairly rapidly. The only weak aspect of the car is the poor electricals. As they don't rust and are pretty reliable, there are loads still going, especially on the continent and thus have a pretty healthy parts supply. I say loads, but there were only 10680 ever made. Here is a picture of an interior, but not mine. The 3 seater layout really does work as I can take my 2 boys out in it (but nothe wife, haha...). If anyone wants any more info, please just ask. Cheers, Macaroni

Bloody cheek... Funny you should say that though, as when Ranault bought Matra from Peugeot, they didn't want the Murena stealing sales from their Fuego, so they canned production of it and started the Espace. Which, incidentally, was a Matra design (to supersede the Rancho) that Peugeot turned down! D'Oh!

Excellent! These make big money in France.
I'd love one, or a Bagheera.

Practical Classics were restoring one a while back.

Excellent car, really like these. There used to be a metallic gold one around here some years ago and it stood out even then.
Think it was a Bagheera that PC restored right enough.

It was a Bagheera and it was a ground up restoration, not for the faint of heart. No such problems with a Murena. Martin, I am on the matrasport forum and a member of MECUK. I recognise your picture. I desperately trying to organise a Matra stand at this years French Car Show but I'm being met with abject indifference from both the forum and the club. C'est la Vie...

Very cool car mate.
I remember in Sale when the Pug Talbot franchise changed over to Abbey (forget what they were called) they had bits and pieces for the 2.2 litre Tagora engine that they threw in a skip....tragic.
I would enquire to see if they have any more but as I hate the place with a passion (the service department tried to pull a fast one with me with my 306 a few years back) you wouldn't find me in there if you paid me!
