Think larry & keef' is going to prove a popular 'jesse out' option when you realise you've bitten off more than you can chew.
Good to hear there is a prospect of it getting road worthy though.

It's nice to have someone on the same wavelength TBH. As every one else assumes you want either a 100-point concours resto OR a dirty bodge job.

TURDAGE. Well the verdict is in! Larry & Keef have uncovered a few horrors lurking on the underside. Some are easy fixes. Some ain't. Like the inner and outer sill flanges being not joined to each other. And the nasty nasty holes that have emerged perilously close to the spring hanger... So it puts the car periously close to being 'uneconomically viable', due to the fact that even good cars make f*ck all money, so if I do it, I've got to keep it really. Do I feel enough love? Can my pitiful financial resources cope? Guess I'll have to consult the 'keeper of the purse' to find out.

Can my pitiful financial resources cope? What's the rest of it like? Isn't the paint quite smart & the car otherwise good? If so, I'm guessing that your chances of finding another that needs this little doing to make it tip-top are slim.... Also, doesn't swmbo like this one

Well TBH, it's a bit of a 'ten yarder', the paint looks OK, but it's obv the original paint, which being from THE STONE AGE means it probably never had a good finish anyway, then over the years it's cracked and crazed and there's a few noticable repairs.... mechanically, it's all good, so that's a bonus, but then would I be able to live with the pathetic performance of the car... Hmm.

Sounds like a world of grief to me. These situations are total ass flap if you are not in a position to do the work yourself. You'll end up spending far more than you would on buying an MOT'd one, or even an MOT'd humber or singer version, yum yum!
I say bay it off, it was a right bargain anyway as I recall so you should end up in the black.
Saying that, under no circumstances accept any 'economic wisdom' about old cars from me, good job I am not trying to make a living out of them or i'd have died of malnutrition years ago.

Have you got any photos of the rusty bits. It shouldn't cost that much to get it welded up. And the rest of the body is pretty good.

I read this thread with a smile as the superminx is my favorite car, the thread started of with such promise up untill the sight of rust, these motors are known for rusting, having add two of them before and one now I know, this is my current one which I am restoring at home away from my buisness, and yes it is rusty inner and outer sills floor boot everwhere, but this might interest you though retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1186937045&page=1it is a weldathon, a 2 solid day graft of welding, the one Lankytim is having is on his allegro and starts the last weekend of sept, this is my 4th weldathon now and is fun, but hard work, someone scraps the curse word of and cuts out the rust and whilst I weld it up they move on th the next hole, if this interests you say so, as you can if done right get £600 pounds worth of welding for 200, and it is still done properly as I do not believe in welding over rust instead it is cut out

That would be cool, but for the thorny matters of: (a) Transporting the car there and back (b) Returning from the weldathon to find my bags packed on the doorstep.

That would be cool, but for the thorny matters of: (a) Transporting the car there and back (b) Returning from the weldathon to find my bags packed on the doorstep. a - once i get the ovlov of doom on the road get a trailer and i'll bosh it on the back and haul it up. b - a would mean b would be redundant You know it makes sense.

Pog, I have very little say far as cars are concerned in our house! Mr Sniper doesn't ask me, hence we've got the collection of cars we have. Mind you he doesn't have say in my patchwork fabric collection (he daren't)
