Well I like'em both, but in the interest of redressing the balance voted Sierra Loved my Ghia Sapph and have always wondered about picking up a Mk2 3 door, if only for the novelty value. And my 2ps' worth, I've always found them exceptionally well planted. The few occasions of 'accidental waywardness' have had more to do with the wet, idiocy or knackered grim reaper tyres than the car itself. Strangely I've found I suffered more with the front 'washing out' in the dry, even with heavy duty bushes in the TCA's. Maybe I should have put poly ones in it ah poley bushes on outter tca's are needed! first thing i did on mine.. big improvment!! si

Sierra - here we go again! He has an illness, it's not his fault.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Having never driven either, I went for the Granada. I've always liked the mk2, being a child of the 1980s, and I just like their boxy styling. They're purposeful-looking. That said, I would sell a less vital internal organ (maybe one kidney) to own a decent XR4i, they have also been a dream car since I was a kid. I know people go on about the Cossie whale-tail as "outrageous", but the '4i spoiler and that C-pillar make the profile of the XR4i truly outrageous.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Don't know the "history" here but obviously I voted Sierra. Because Granadas don't fit in my little lock-up garage. ;D After owning around ten Sierras and racked up probably 140k miles in 'em I'm quite surprised to hear of their "reputation" too. Yokohamas + good springs, shocks and tca bushes + skills = win, chaps.

Mk1 Granada Saloon for me please.
Though in recent years I have started to appreciate the old Sierra. It's one of the few remaining cheap rear wheel drive cars with lots of potential.

Sausage bay!?LOL!! I personally would go for the sierra, purely because I owned one a few months back, totally standard, just stripped out,and it was the most fun I've ever had in a car!Probably because I wasn't afraid of battering it as it cost me naff all! pic:

re. Sierra's & "wayward" handling, at one point about 8 years back, me & the ex had a sierra each - hers a 5-door 1800 CVH & mine a 2.0 DOHC Sapph. The handling was completely different in each car - hers handled in the described way - i.e. it could "bite" you if not careful, and eventually "bit" her one day in Liverpool & she bunged it into a metal fence, which resulted in much swearing & repairing by yours truly. On wet days when it occasionally decided to throw me at the weeds, I found it much harder to get straight again without the tail swinging the other way. The Saph, on the other hand, handled like a dream right up to the day 2 years ago when with 168,000 untroubled miles on the clock, it went off to race the ovals as a lightning rod shell. I even tried swapping the wheels over (the saph rode on 15 inch Volvo T5 allys wearing 195 rubber, whilst the saloon was on 14 inch 185 steelies), which actually made the saph handle even better as all 4 tyres were the same make/age. Despite being a year older, the build quality on the Saph was far better as well - right up to 2006 aged 16, it never rusted & was never welded, despite living outside all the time, whilst the hatch got crispy round the arches at around 10 years old. Looking them over mechanically, I noticed that the dampers were different & the saph had thicker anti-roll bars. In 7 years and 84,000 miles of ownership, and despite "running out" of opposite lock a couple of times and having to back off, I never lost control of the sapphire. The mk1 2 litre 5-door I had previously was somewhere between the two, but even after the addition of a load of aftermarket & 4i bits, it never handled as well as the sapphire & gave me several "educational" moments, as only your first RWD can
